Hi folks,I,m finally in a position to move up the evolutionary ladder from my much loved  deauville to the gtr.Just by chance i,ve found a really clean, 23,000 07 plate and in prefered black and the dealer has offered a really good trade in for the honda.I,m off on a test ride on Saturday so would appreciate any tips on things to check. The bike has,nt a top box and we (wife goes pillion) do a lot of touring with our tent and as many of lifes essentials as possible(you no shoes, hairdyers and straightners ect).I have had a look around the forum and have seen some of you have the kwack box and others have givi,i,m thinking of the givi maxima 55L.Does any body run with one of these and if so would you recommend putting on the the givi metal rack or is the plate stable enough? Thanks
Hi Gunslinger and welcome to the... Forum :whistling:
Quite a topical question you have there! i suggest you check out the following ongoing topic:

You'll find plenty of other useful facts and info in here too so have a good browse and search
Cheers

Welcome Gunslinger, I'm sure that you will be amazed by the GTR, its a stunning machine, which will transport yourself and SWMBO in fine style
The GIVI Max box works fine on the GTR, I've used one on all my GTRs over the years BUT I do recommend that you use the GIVI Top Box mounting plate as sold by a GIVI agent, in this way you know that your Top Box is safe
Here's mine mounted and ready for the 'off'

What make is the tank bag on yoor bike Olde Coney is it the Motech? Does the tail of the bag touch the tank itself as was wondering if it scratches the paint on the tank?
It's a Bags Connection ~ Model Engage XL, which attaches via a horse shoe ring on the tank filler cap, its fits very well and carries as much bits and bobs as we require, you can also get smaller'day' bags which I also have which is great for when your our on your own
The bags very quickly attach and detach so aren't an issue when filling up
The Bags do not touch the tank so there's no damage
These people are extremely helpful, you may want to try them.

Thanks for the welcom, info and link guys.Great looking shiney bike olde coney.
Welcome Slinger
Your not half stepping up... from a Deauvie to a GTR, you'll notice some difference.
Usual bike things to check, if you don't know about the ignition system read the owners manual, available to download all over the net, and check that both key fobs are present and working, which will mean approaching the bike with each fob individually and check ignition lock works and operates, if it doesn't it's most likely a flat battery in the fob but it's a possible bargaining point. Long as both fobs are present.
As some front disks can warp pretty quickly feel for any unevenness in braking during test ride.
You'll love the bike, if it's the sort of machine your looking for.
Haven't had mine out much but definitely glad I got it.
It's not a popular machine and can be had for bargain money, considering the bike your getting.
Hi and welcome to the forum.
You can read the owners manuals etc here: http://www.gtr1400.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,372.0.html
What to check on the bike:
Make sure there is no pulsing from the brake levers - sign brake discs are warping
Make sure both kipass fobs work and that the stove key moves freely when releasing the bike from locked.
Windscreen mechanism is fully working
Put the bike on centre stand and in neutral. Rotate read wheel slowly and listen for clunk sound. Click sound you will hear, clunk sound is much louder
Check warranty work has been carried out if possible
23k miles - had the 24k service been carried out? Its the big service (valve adjustment)
Probably some other things that will come to mind which I'll post later
Sorry to butt in, but people keep going on about both key fobs. I bought my 2010 model brand new and it only came with 1 fob and an emergency rf tag thingy... Is that normal? Or should I go back to the frog dealer and find my second fob?
:undecided:
Thanks
Ros
For the 2010 model onwards thats right
I wouldn't have bought my bike if it hadn't 2 fobs Ros, same goes for cars Ibuy has to have at least two of the chipped keys that were original supplies.
Two reasons I do this....
Firstly.. they are expensive to replace, and if they were supplied with the bike / car in the first place then really if the vehicle has been looked after by a fussy owner then they should be there.
Secondly for insurance purposes.... If your bike / car is stolen and then recovered but is classed as a total loss claim the insurance company can check on the ECU to see how many fobs / keys are registered to start the vehicle, if you only hand in one key or fob, they can take the view that the other key was used to steal the vehicle, possibly through negligence, and refuse to pay up.
I know it's just a way of getting out of paying up but in this day when insurance companies are finding all sorts of ways to reduce the liabilities and outgoings it's enough.
Personally I place more importance on the first point though, if it's supplied originally I'd rather have it, goes the same for service records, receipts, etc... it's an indication of the care the previous owner has taken with the bike.
All the best.
Al.
Only one was supplied as new, with the second being a passive RF tag, basically. As Asif said, it's apparently normal on 2010 models onwards...
Cheers

Ros ... my bike was new last year and I have the big fob and the small card ... it's all quite normal ! You could of course have another big one made up but the cost may be prohibitive !!!
Pre 2010 models had two fobs as standard
Post 2010 model bikes are supplied with only one fob, this model does however also have a passive fob.
Extra fobs from your local dealer were/are expensive, and available on special order
I am clearly shagged after nights .... I thought it read "have a massive nob" !!!! :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: Think my idea of staying up wasn't such a good idea ... night night everyone !!!!!
Hi troops ,had the test ride today :grin:took it round some country twists(slowly, freezing up north roads frosty) then onto the A1.It,s quite nippy is,nt it  :sweatdrop: It,s a great ride(as you all already know) feels really stable, solid, responsive and did i already say quick! Done the deal :smiley:thanks for the info on fobs and 24K service. There are 2 fobs, working, and they are doing the 24K scheduled service as part of the original price(Ian Bell cycles @ Bedlington would recommend, nice friendly staff, no pressure and really helpful even delivering when service is done and Givi rack and plate fitted)Only down side, its bloody winter. Thanks again.
Great to hear, glad you liked it.... feel the same about the weather, my bikes away for all this bad weather, looking forward to it clearing and warming up to get it out properly.
Good luck with it.
Al.
