Morning GTR fans,
Went for a blast yesterday from home (West London) to Wisbech to collect an Iphone 5 from an eBay seller. Approx 210 mile round trip.
On the way there, I was on main roads until the last 20-30 miles or so, then fairly decent A/B roads across fenlands. It was getting dark.... I felt ok, hands were a tad cold but the bike felt great, with some lovely overtakes and decent progress. I accelerated off a roundabout in third and came up to a few cars, the opposite direction had no oncoming vehicles, so I clicked 4th gear at about 5000 revs and proceeded to overtake - and the rear let go as if I was on ice. I reckon there must have been some agricultural stuff on the road, possibly diesel. It was about 3 degrees. Anyway, whatever it was, my rear spun up and moved the back end out about 6 inches, which shit the life out of me and for a split second wobbled the bars and then straightened up (I rolled off the gas as soon as she spun). I'm an extremely experienced biker and this caught me out.
Cool story I know! Lesson learnt? These GTR's have more low down grunt/torque than I perhaps give them credit for. She's tucked up for the winter now, but for those of you still riding and planning on riding through the winter, remember that the old beast has the ability to surprise ya when ya don't expect it!
Anyway - stay safe guys/girls. Pig.
Has it left the seat with a big crease down the centre
when my good self and rossendale rider "andy" went to scotland earier in the year, his rear end was all over the place a few times :whistling: suppose there a few miles in this post yet  but for the record I feel I must clarify that I meant his rear tyre lost grip a few times in the early scotland morning dew :mfr_lol:

Ahem....! Just the thought of 300 kilos on it's side etc.... did make the 'old rusty sheriffs badge' twitch a bit....
Hi - my 2p worth.
With a maximum 136Nm torque, used in the right way she's got over 40-50Nm more than most (if not all) litre sports bikes, not mentioning any other bike (including new trophy) and 20Nm more than even a Ducati Multistrada - a Vee Twin reknowned for their torque.
Its actually the figure I start looking at when looking at new bikes as a replacement..... Nothing in this sector of the market comes even close.
She's just awesome, traction control helps, but every other bike I've tried just feels flat in comparison.
Spinning the rear is just part of the fun....
Enjoy before the Eurocrat's and Electronics take it all away!!!
Neil
- good post. I've had the Traction Control intervene at least twice on questionable bits of road (not sure whether it was diesel/water on the road) , but always during acceleration.
- will not buy another bike without TC and ABS.
.
So Mr Pig, whilst all this mayhem was going on did you notice if the traction control light was flashing?

I was just thinking the same
It's moments like this that make you realise we are not invincible on our bikes and we shouldn't take for granted that each ride will go smoothly. Even I, yes I know, the slowest rider on this forum have had this happen to me, nor necessarily with the back end steping out 6 inches but enough to make me go oops, better just re-check myself.
Glad you managed to correct the bike and didnt come a cropper. It is a powerful bike and can catch you off guard occasionally. :whistling:

[/quote].. Even I, yes I know, the slowest rider on this forum, that may be so.. but not when a certain 3 gtr owners of 2 best colours and one black colour :whistling: on our return home journey from the cotswolds :mfr_lol:
I rode through snow and ice in Lille, France back in March.. Was real fun trying to filter on the duel carriageways. I was slipping and sliding everywhere but she was great and I didnt come off. I only fell off once when she slipped from under me at a standstill before I set off... :mfr_lol:
Ive had a few twitches at speed but thats all the fun of biking... :mfr_lol:
My bike doesn't have traction control!! It's a 2008.....

ermmmm, that'll be why then,
I didn't know which model year your bike was, its not shown within your profile.
Early models ROOL!
We can wheelie without having to disable the nanny.
You can keep your heated grips and fancy-schmantzy paint colours, and your traction control, and linked brakes and 155Mph speed limiter.
Gimme a comparatively unfettered 2007-2009 any day, preferably in BLACK! :hammer: :hammer:
 :innocent: :whistling:
Booooomer!! Nail, head, large sledge hammer - job jobbed!! 2008 Black GTR's will ALWAYS be faster!

Boomer seems to believe it. :sleep1:
Next time I have the chance to go onto the Autobahn without the topcase on (last time I went near 140 and was concerned the flimsy thing would fly off if I went any faster) I'm sure I can prove him wrong.  :2guns:

As seen in the code in the ECU by Guhl Motors in the USA.
08/09 models have the limiter set to 300Kph/186Mpg.
10/11 models have it set to 250Kph/155Mph.
Not that I plan on doing those kinds of speeds in the UK, but my personal momentary maximum was around 165Mph on the speedo, on the A3 in Germany.

Ive done 150mph on the autobahn with topcase and panniers fitted..
Dont see what the problem is... :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Boomer i have meet you and know that you are, shall we say larger than your average bear WTF got you to 165mph?

150 according to GPS or speedo?
My speedo was nearly up to 160 and my GPS showed only 140 when I decided to slow down.
With only the panniers on I would have gone faster but I just don't trust that flimsy topcase.
Especially when it is overloaded, which it usually already is the moment you put anything in it. :ohplease:
After all it was designed to be fitted on the back of a scooter and not a 160+ mph touring bike. :death:
- yes, with the GTR - the speedo over reads the speed by a pretty significant amount at higher velocities.
- eg , speedo shows 220 kmh , but gps only reads it as slightly less than 210 kmh.
