Well I've finally had enough, so the GTR is going, I know a lot of you have had no problems at all but I've had more than I can take.
2 clutch slave cylinders
1 Master cylinder
2 rear shocks
KIPASS ECU
2 panels
tank repair for paint
battery
sundry niggles
and now the tank has rusted through under the seat, despite regular care, attention and ACF50
16 months of ownership and 9 weeks at the dealer, not including services, is not really on is it?
Great when it goes, and I'm sure you guys with the good ones will enjoy them for many miles, I wouldn't wish my problems on anyone else that's for sure. Would I tell someone not to buy a GTR, certainly not, if you like fast touring and your pillion to be comfortable it's a great piece of kit. However I feel the build quality for a 'flagship' bike lets the side down in certain areas.
and as for Kawasaki UK :ohplease:
What next? not sure yet, maybe a VFR12 or a KTM SMT, or perhaps back to K series BM's we shall see
Happy riding folks :biker3:
sorry to hear that and can see why your well  but it seem's like you've had a bad one. had my 2010 model just over 2 years and had  problems what so ever  ok.. my gtr as only done 7,550 miles to date due to me having the zx6r and my car to use. can't understand why your tank and replacement tank as rusted, this was also reported as a potential problem on my zzr1400 so I smeared grease over the proned areas under the seat and kept an eye on it, also done this with my gtr1400 and is showing no signs of rust on the tank anywhere under the seat. I also had a bagster tank cover on the zzr and also got one on the gtr  the tank cover allows the seat to sit tight against the tank which also prevents water ingress from getting to the vulnerable areas where the water would "hold" under the seat. wish you more look with your next bike
hi mate, sorry to hear all the crap you have been having with the bike mate,,,,never heard of so many long standing problems with the gtr!!!, an yes,,,,,kawasaki should be up front in sorting this for you,,,but,,,there you go,,,,,,,,another kick in the teeth for there customer services
hope all goes well for you mate and good luck an hope you enjoy what ever bike you get,,,,an lets hope that you enjoy it!!!!!.
take care mate,an stay safe
the jenros family
Sorry to hear of all your problems Cartman, you have ex[erienced many more problems with your GTR than I have ever had with the three GTRs that I've owned.
In their defence I must say that Kawasaki customer services generally seem to get good feedback.
Although I love the GTR, I have to agree that the quality levels are not what it should be.
Take the VFR 1200 for a test ride, you will like it.

No thanks, and I don't like it.
Sorry to hear that you are selling the GTR, but I can well imagine that you are sick to death of it. I would think we would all feel the same if ours had given as many problems. How many miles has the bike done?. Lets all hope you have more luck with the next steed, and all the very best in the future.

Thanks, yes rather hoping next bike has less issues
bike has done 10,500, but previous bike did 19,500 in the same time period so constant dealer trips have definitely effected the GTR's use.
Good luck Cartman ... come back and let us know what you went for !
After some consideration and a couple of test rides I'm replacing the GTR with a used VFR1200. Great bike, bit more sporty which I like, fast, comfy and well equipped and saved myself some cash too.
Fingers crossed everything goes ok with it.
Happy riding chaps :biker3:

It will probably be a lovely riding bike and I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but.....Uuuggghhh ugly as pig :shit:
That's one of the reasons I went for the GTR.. I liked the look of it, and that's from somebody who I has always bought Honda's because of their looks and general quality/reliability, but the latest Honda styling I personally think is horrible...
I know it's early days, as I've only just got a GTR, and I hope I don't live to regret taking the chance on it, as some others have said given the problems you encountered I can't blame you wanting to jump ship, good luck with it...
ugly as a pig is a bit harsh me thinks.. I quite like the looks of them  mate in work as one which he traded is blackbird in for and as far as I'm aware he's chuffed to bits with it.
As you say alibx11 each to their own, I didn't like the VFR when it came out but I actually really like it now, especially without luggage. One of my mates used to describe my GTR as "the b*stard offspring of a BMW GT and a bull elephant" so beauty really is in the eye of the beholder :mfr_lol:
- there are well known issues with the "older" VFR (pre-traction control).
- hope your new bike will be kinder to you.
.
Any bike has to have that visual kerb appeal to me and the VFR simply doesn't, but that's only my opinion, I agree that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and it wouldn't do for us all to like the same things in life
I do think though that the pillion facilities on the VFR look a tad restricted

Or as some would say, In the eyes of the beerholder !!! :mfr_lol:

I think the VFR is LUUUUVLY but only naked .. ie no top box and panniers ... I just think they look as if they were stuck on by a 3 year old .. all over the place whilst on the Gtr they look as one with the bike ...
VFR's a great bike, though I agree it looks better without panniers & topbox.
I was going to go for an SMT, but rode a new Speed Triple and loved it (it's now in my garage, traded the GTR)

Congratulations
Liked the SMT a lot! But not quite for me. Always lusted after a Speed Triple, in my dream 5 bike garage
Cheers
Bondu that's a lovely piece of kit
Collected my VFR today and wow, it's already love. 150 miles (one tank!) down my favourite roads and its put the fun back in biking for me. It's not comparable to the GTR as a tourer, because its a sports tourer and I love it! Smooth, stable, flickable, fast as.. and comfy. GTR is great for 2 up fast touring, but the Viffer just wills you to ride it quickly, and I'm happy to oblige.
One day Kawasaki may convince me to come back, but in the meantime I'm happy to have a Honda.
Different strokes for different folks.....
- the 1st time sitting on a VFR , was amazed at just how small the bike is and how narrow too.
- esp when you compare it to GTR.
- how the power with the V-Four ? On paper its an amazing output.
- smoothness ?

it does feel like a tiny bike compared to the GTR, not uncomfortable just lithe.
Power is unreal, but delivery is smoother than the GTR, frankly you're not short of power on either.
Come on Cartman .... pictures of your new steed are required !
Oh ok :mfr_lol:
Don't really care if people don't like the looks, it's an awesome piece of kit, I'm loving it
What a lovely colour, I wish Kawasaki would offer that on UK GTRs
Looks great Cartman. I very nearly went for the Vfr and wanted one in that colour too! The only thing that really swung it towards the GTR for me was that the GTR seemed more geared up for the journeys I make from Liverpool to Plymouth and back over a weekend. It was the little extra bits like the adjustable screen, heated grips, and tank range that swung it. I had heard concerns about the tank range, which may in fact just be bad press that gets around, but at the time I felt that although we all need to stop off to re-fuel and have a chill out, I didn't want to keep having to go for fuel each time I did. Lovely bike though, I'll have to try one out some day! Enjoy mate.
Thanks Cartman ... what lovely pictures ... the red is very much like the K1600 red ... which is of course luvvvvvvly .....! Hope you enjoy the VFR
