:agree:  Plenty of very useful info plus a load of bollox on occasion but all in a humorous tone. If you want to know anything about your new P&J just ask. No such thing as a silly question, only a silly answer.

Thanks again . I do like the titanium 2kwacks.
Are there any major issues with the GTR? I've been reading some stuff about drive shafts and rear shock problems?
This is my second kawaski, had a Z750 back in 04 but changed to Honda ( VFR) then the Blackbird.
I think the GTR looks superb and hopefully will be doing some touring next year. Being a teacher gives me some long holiday periods

drive shafts ?, well dont worry about it, just ensure your drive shaft oil gets changed regular, some dealers forget to do it so id get it done as soon as and then stay on top, personally i have mine done every time the main oil is changed. you can get a replacement DS off an ebay breaker for 200 beer tokens.  Rear shock, a few on here have had the adjuster sieze , more than once which has resulted in a new shocker, the remedy is to turn the adjuster on a reguar basis and spray oil  or 3 in 1 oil into the knob, unbolt the adjuster and let it hand upside down overnight for the oil to seep in, id do this asap, if your prev owner never touched the adjuster it could already be very stiff.
great colour choice , this was us today up Winnats pass

Well I picked bike up tonight

Awful weather though and the handover could have been better-sales bloke  couldn't really explain the traction control etc or LCD warnings/indicators. Any way I had orange light on all the way home for traction control
This went off when I put bike in garage ??? I think it must have been turned off ?
Also a F1 warning light flashed at me which is a bit worrying- the whole dash seemed to light up like a belisha  beacon and it said F1 error,  I think, cos it all happened rather quickly and I was pushing buttons

I'm going to read the manual

Viper , what exactly do I unbolt ?

Must say teach, drive shafts is a new one on me... never heard of them giving any bother on this bike.
Changing drive shaft oil is a regular maintenance procedure and easier and cheaper than engine oil change.

Not sure about all the lights showing as mine doesn't have traction control and F1 light shouldn't be showing.

Download the service manual and get a read at it.

Cheers.
Al.

Viper , what exactly do I unbolt ?

Just been out in the garage so just had a quick look at what's involved ...

Take your nearside  ( left hand ) rear footrest hanger off , and you'll see there are two bolts to undo... the preload adjuster will then hang on the pipe... squirt some WD40 or ACF50 down into it, and leave it to soak in, then re-assemble

Not done this yet but its a cracking idea

The F1 error occasionally flashes up, don't worry its generally nothing to worry about, I think it's happened to most of us at some stage

Fill her up with some advance/high octane fuel every so often and in my experience the message shouldn't re-appear

In the owners manual it does recommend minimum (RON) 95.. and don't ever use E10 fuel

BTW did you get an owners manual with the bike

This link might be useful at some stage

Thank you everyone for your replies.
Yes I've got a manual and i now understand that the ABS has two modes, so now I know what the littlle LCD circles and brake pads mean !
Also I now know that the sale chap must have turned the traction control off  and know how to turn it on and off myself now
Now i am sitting in anticipation of some good weather at the weekend and next week, being  a school teacher I have next week off and hope to get across to lake district and Scotland  Can't wait
Thanks again.
Anyone else had the F1 light come on? It did just flash and went off straight away

traction on control is by "default" so if the traction control light was on when you where riding home, you may have turned it off when you and the salesmen where fiddling around with the controls. if you press and hold the traction control switch when the engine is running it will turn the traction control off and the yellow light will stay on which warns you the traction control is switched off

Mr Teacher.. don't worry about the F1 light if it's gone off it means there's no fault  mine came on soon after picking it up from the dealers from new, but has not come on since. I do mostly use 98 octane because I think both my gtr and zx6r deserve it

Teacher, a very belated  :185: . I dont know, I go away for a few days and another Northerner signs up.  :mfr_lol:
The F1 light has shown a presence on my bike too, albeit very briefly, it appears to be 'normal', I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
