The unit uses as straight forward headphone type jack... I've not had mine yet, but a mate has just bought one, and he's a bit 'techy' says it works really well, the only thing I MAY have to do is buy a shielded mp3 cable, as he said the shielding on the cable is what is used as the aerial, and the reception may not be that brilliant if the cable I'm using isn't shielded...

Got all my wires in place , plugged the iphone in , works for music into the Autocom so just need to get the radio and see how it works with my set up...

Can't see how it would be any different with it plugged into a scala

Well, got it... not been out on the bike with it running yet.. but the standard 3pin jack plug to the autocom seems to act fine as an aerial

10 Presets, and it found 24 different stations on start up  .....

Clear as a bell, and having the engine running doesn't seem to affect the signal either

Quiet in here  ....

Took it out for a spin this afternoon.... DAB radio works great  .... foam ear plugs in , and radio clear up to around 60 mph... no ear plugs, volume at half way is sufficient.... It lost its signal a couple of times, but only for a few seconds.... so really pleased with it

I'm going to try the moulded plugs I've had for a while, not as effective as foam, but better than none, and that should give me a bit more volume for when I'm  ahem... making progress

I've been playing with DAB for a while now.

I bought a Pure Highway dab for my 2008 GTR and had some good results at the start. The unit is heave in AA batteries, when using the 12v adapter I got some mild engine interference. It came with an Ariel which was stuck on to the windscreen (it wont get a signal without the ariel. I found the controls of the Pure Highway awkward particularly trying to change the volume. When I changed my bike in March to a 2011 model I list the windscreen ariel.

I bought a PPM001 ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/GMYLE-PPM001-Portable-Radio-Player/dp/B00842ECAA ) which is a great wee DAB radio, has its own built in rechargeable batteries via a micro USB connection. It gets a signal intermittently on the GTR connected via my Autocom Aux lead. These portable DAB radios seem to use the headphones and your body as the areal. No external radio connection. I also tried extending the Aux lead and putting the radio in my inner jacket pocket.

I went back to the Pure Highway and bought an external magmount ariel for it. ( http://www.pure.com/products/accessory.asp?Product=VL-61112 ) still a very intermittent signal, with less signal the closer I get into Glasgow.

I see that Garmin are now producing a Sat Nav with DAB TV and radio build in, may take a while to hit the Zumo though.

Back to the Asda DAB radio....

A mate with a 1300 Pan borrowed it last weekend for a little jaunt up to the Lake District from Leicester.... He said it dropped out momentarily only twice on the whole journey up there,  not quite so good on the way back, but then it was pouring with rain , so wondered if the bad weather affected the reception.....

Volume wise through the Autocom good up to around 70mph, but could do with a little more upwards from that  ( with foam earplugs )

May get myself a boostaroo   ( used one before)  a cheap little inline amp for boosting the volume a bit  ( used one in the past with good results)

Bryn, my car has a DAB radio and it also drops out in poor signal areas, so I reckon the reception on your portable one is doing just fine
