I don't know if this will help anyone but I've subscribed to Ride mag for 6 months for £22 and they gave me the oxford charger which sells for over £40.
I get the mag anyway as a present so I tacked the new subscription onto the end of my current one
Good deal in my view
I don't know how long this offer is on for but they have one each month
Just had a look, ends 17th October
Have a look at what they have to offer at the NEC. They usually have a few good deals there.
hands up anyone who has had problems with a trickle charger
Me ! Me !
I got one of those fancy Oximisers??? free with a mag subscription, to trickle charge my bikes,
BUT if I have a power cut/surge, it does not restart itself, you have to push buttons which is no bloody good
Coman
my optimate killed a few batteries, now i just have a volt meter attached and when it goes sub 11v i top up the battery with a normal charger. I think batterys like to discharge and then charge up again as opposed to constant trickle , my 2 cents
Never had one - and never needed one since I normally use the bike at least once a week and that keeps the battery charged enough.
Last winter she'd been sitting in the garage for over a month but started straight away once the snow had melted.
Before I had a garage trickle charging wasn't feasible anyway.
If you have to park your bike outside in winter and don't take the battery inside frost will kill it eventually.
:listencarefully: Hooking the battery up to t trickle charger is just not worth the effort and a waste of money IMHO. :whistling:

reality is that the battery, a good one , will need very little charge through the winter, last year i parked the bike up start of november and attached my digital volt meter to the battery via its charge lead as i normally do, the volts never went below 11v until early january and then i charged the battery for an hour which bought it back up to 12.5v or so, by the time we got to march it was showing 11.2 volts and although i could have charged it again , the bike fired right up on 11.2 volts .
if your bike is out in the cold you could always bring the battery in the house for the winter , as it will retain its charge better and also better for bike security, i just dont think trickle chargers are neccesary

:agree: With Viper. I still have an Optimate 4 I think it is in the garage which I haven't used for years as its just not necessary for the GTR.
This thread reminded me that I have an old AccuMate in the Rev Shed...................just going to check if its still there ...................returns ~ pant, pant....yep its still there, I haven't used it for years and years, I bought it for the ZX9 days
TBH I just park the GTR up over winter and give her a run up every week and she's always fine come Spring time
my exp with a trickle charger was with my 30 yr old xr4i which i used to take off the road every year through the winter, had the charger hooked up and once i started driving it again the battery would fail , this happened 4 years on the trot, the battery always had a 2 yr warranty so i kept going back and getting a replacemnt , after the 4 year the shop owner made a comment about me having a trickle charger, i stop using it after that , ive still got the xr4i and im now in its fifth year on the same battery, im sure TC 's are better now with better tech, but i just done trust them
