Title: Screens
Post by: viper on October 10, 2012, 10:13:54 PM
whats the general choice for larger screens, ive currently got the vario screen with deflector, its slightly smaller than the 2010 stock but still noisy, when i tuck my head down a bit the noise reduction is huge, so i gonna ebay that one out and get a larger than stock screen, what are my choices. Also how are the srcreens measured , when they say 64cm, are they meauring physical plastic or some type of elevated height ??

pics would be a bonus

thanks

Yup, same fit.

I'm 6ft and preferred the medium. The large didn't really give much more.

 Viper I wasn't having a 'pop' at you..my point is that this is one of the most frequently asked questions

Anyway it seems the 2013 model has a taller (70mm) screen which is also wider....maybe Kawasaki do listen after all  :mfr_lol:

Tried the vario. Needed to be 2" higher in my opinion.
I should be able to drop one of the screens next week.

i am 5.11 tall and find the screen to be noisey so i have just got a smaller screen  and are going to try that .if the wind pressure is all the same on a biger area then maybe there will be not as much  flapping noise .  we shall see .

i shall be out on sunday as i am going to new york raceway to have a go at the rwb   took my zzr11  and did a 11.34    zzr12   10.80  so shall see what i can do . if any body else fancies it. it is near melbourne   york    £10 to get in and £30 to blast down the strip .   weather permitting . my thought on the screen is that when you have a naked bike  yes it has wind blast but you don,t get the flapping noise that i am getting ..........

well i have been out today on the bike and the 08 screen on my 2010 gtr is spot on   there is no more flapping noise .  a bit more wind pressure at 90 plus . but overall a  vast improvement . i tried raising up the screen the 2 inches that it had before  and back came the noise . so anybody that is 5,11 ish tall its worth a try . i got the screen off ebay for £16 .......

well, ive just bought a 2nd hand calsci xl off ebay, turned out to be a forum member ( Gresty ) off here, so many thanks gresty. Ive had a read through his posts and he does mention that there is something not right with the screen, anyway ive fitted it and i will see how it performs tomoz as im taking the bike into the dealer for a service.
Have to say that the screen does look a bit goofy now its on the bike, if they would have made the bottom part of the screen shaped to the contour of the bike rather than just the cut off look it would have been better. Wonder if they do a tinted version? I got the screen cheap so its a cost effective way to experiment. I may even swap screens around depending on what type of ride we are doing. I currently have the vario screen, not the long touring model and i dont think its much better than a stock, its shorter but has the flip .
when in traffic is having your vision through the screen a problem ?

i know, and the offer was kind and has been noted. Truth is i wont be using the bike much at all now until the spring, so didnt feel comortable about keeping it for several months, plus didnt want to risk it getting damaged , maybe if the xl is too damn big i will try your medium next year.

took the bike out today with the calsci xl screen, in its fully erect ( tee hee ) position it is sooo much quieter, if i could measure the wind protection  id say my stock screen was about 30 % effective, my vario was about 40% and this is about 90% , id say only about 10% of the air is buffeting on me, its very quiet and i can now hear the engine at high speed , also the area around my neck is so much warmer, i can see over the screen ok and when im im slower traffic its nice to move the screen down again,

took the bike into the dealer today for 7.5k service and the recall, they did say they would lend me a zzr1400  but ended up giving me this yamymabob, id decided i did not like it before i even got on it, however, its got a great engine, road holding is great in the wet, very sure footed, no fairing and a bit small for me.  bike ran out of fuel some 6 miles from their showroom and they had to recover me from the motorway.
