Title: The GTR
Post by: Winston Smith on October 05, 2012, 12:46:16 AM
Just been through many of my piccies and one of them reminded me how lovely looking the GTR is.  Nice looking bike - (with  the panniers on :punk: )

I, on the other hand, think that it is not a good looking bike ! A great bike yes, but not a "looker" in my opinion.
But that is what makes the world a great place ! Imagine if we were all the same ???

I don't think the Mk2 version is nice looking.

I liked the 'angular' look of the Mk1 (and the colour :asshole: ) but I don't like the more 'organic' roundy look of the latest ones.

It's still the most good looking sport tourer

Winston rides a Samsonite,... errr sorry BMW K1600GT.
So, he is obviously biased towards slab sided monstrosities.
The new Trophy is from the same design school which is a disappointment.
Not my taste at all.

The GTR is curvy where the others are slabby (or pointy for the FJR1300).

well we all have an opinion, i think the gen 2 bike is a tad prettier than the gen1, however i dont think the bike is a stunner, its the most capable bike and best bike ive owned , but the prettyiest, no  .
Now my zzr1200 had looks to die for , those merc front lights and the smarties for the rear.
we affectionately refer to the gtr as FUP, fat ugly pig, i bit ott , but it is wide !

Winston, that's the same bike I had before, (2009 model) and the same can too.  Class

wish I had kept it rather now as it was better than my current 2012 bike which is not as nice looking or as nice to ride IMO.

A bikes appearance has always, with one exception, (you can guess which) been a major factor to me when buying a  road bike

I think the GTR has always been a fantastic looking bike, and also I reckon the FJR1300 is a good looker, but its qualities don't go much further than looks I'm afraid  :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

Was a great machine!  Know what you mean about the later models.  Tested the 2010 in the Alps and wasn't a patch on the (mine at the time) 2009 model.  The 2011 was better that we tested in South of France/Pyrenees last year - seemed a better put together machine.

GTR still has a special place in my heart (as long as it's blue)

I was thinking more of their 1980s cases rather than their new designer stuff.

The K100 was christened the "Digital Briefcase".
The K1600 (along with the K1200LT) must be the "Digital Suitcase".  :mfr_lol:
