fitted the hugger from skid marx good quality and dose a good job of keeping the shit off! you need to remove the exhaust to gain excess to the tourqe rod nut, but 5 min job! if you do fit a skidmarx hugger dont forget to locktight the nylon lock nuts on the tourqe rods nuts, they do not supply a slightly longer bolt, but they recommend you lock tight the original nut! have also fitted the fenda extender thats defo worth the money as well! easy fit just remove the front mudguard but that is a 5 min job as well! you may also want to consider a beowulf rad gaurd then there no chance of a stone slipping through! the fenda extender really is to help keeping the shit off! not fitted a head light protector yet but may do if some one can comment on them and show a pic of one fitted!

ok will take pic and send of hugger fitted! dose the 2007 headlight protector fit the 2010, also noticed the zzr1400 is either 2006 2007 or 2006 onwards am confused because all head lights are the same on the zzr1400
hugger not very noticable when panniers are fitted, but dose a good job of keeping the shit off!

I like the look of that Hugger. I've seen a few that aren't that long so they dont really do their job too well. This one, however in the pics extends quite a long way giving lots of protection to the shock and frame. Is that the Skidmarx one?
yes they are sikdmarx huggers!
Do you have to take the rear wheel off to fit it?
No , but removing the Muffler does help. Simple enough job. Skimarx one comes with some instructions , so not too much head scratching in Garage.
Very pleased with mine. Fits well , good sturdy fit & all well thought out by Skidmarx. They are a good company for sure.
Just remember the Dog leg Bracket goes on the Pannier side.... ;D

Do you have to rake the rear wheel off to fit it?
like ziderman says! you dont need to remove the rear wheel! but you need to remove the exhaust! but 5 min job, only the join and the hanger bracket. remember to lock tight the tourqe arm bolts because skidmarx dont supply a silghtly longer bolt to allow for the hugger bracket on the tourqe arm! but this is not a problem, the nylon lock nut dose not pretude fully past the bolt when fully tightend like it did with out the haugger bracket! so as a extra precaution skidmarx recommend a medium lock tight solution, then tourqe as recomended! the hugger took me 30 mins to fit. and dose a excellent job of keeping the back end shit free!
You've all just convinced me. Just ordered one, £79.95 + £7.50 postage. Thats for the standard black one as opposed to the carbon fibre one. Deliver 7-10 days. I can live with that. ;D

wise choice! they do keep the rear shock and regulator clean from all the shit! dont be concearned if when fitted there seems to be little room between the tyre and the hugger! have got about 4 mm clearence which is ample! just make sure you can spin the wheel freely with out it catching the hugger! I say 3 mm is a minium clearence you should have.
Will having a hugger stop this ???? - less than 40 miles in damp road conditions
Steve
You Dirty Bugger....na , wont stop all that. You wont get caught by speed Camera though.... ;D
Since Hugger fitted you get lot less of it for sure.

Yeah, no worries. I've had them on some of my other bikes, ideally they need to be agood close fit.

I am not convinced that a hugger would stop this as the muck is flung off the tyre and deposited on the number plate and panniers before the tyre get round to the hugger.
What it probably needs is a rear fender extender, which somebody on the other forum suggested

theres nothing that will stop the shit from getting where the shit is covering the back of your bike around the number plate e.t.c the hugger is only to protect the shit from going on the shock and regulator and on the rear of the engine and under tray! but that shit on the back of your bike is harmless and can be removed easy with water! the hugger simple protects the shock e.t.c the more hard to excess places!
Aye, the hugger really protects the shock. As Routemaster says, there needs to be a rear fender extender
can not see how a fenda would prevent the shit from getting on the rear of the bike! but as far as am concerned I can live with that! as long as the shock and the hard to reach places are protected, the hugger dose a decent job of that! ;)
It would work the same way that a front fender extender would work
Steve

see your point. but can not see it working to well, the shite comes from the sides as well so can not see how a fenda would be fiitted between the panniers and the tyre! it may stop some of the shit from flinging up from the tyre at the bottom of the number plate, if some type of fenda extender was fitted under neath the number plate, but think a fenda would look out of place there, so best option is to clean the shit off regular! at least with the hugger it dose a fine job of keeping the shock,undertray,e.t.c which are the harder to reach places clean.
Ordered my hugger on 3rd march and hey presto it arrived today, four days later and thats taking the weekend into consideration. Now thats great service. Also I am very impressed with the hugger, its solid, not like some that appear a bit flimsy.
Hopefully I'll manage to get it fitted in the next few days in between work.
First day off work today where I have had an opportunity to put the hugger on. It is actually a very simple job, the only bit I found a bit faffy was undoing the nut from the support bolt of the exhaust, the one directly underneath the rear brake lever. You cant see it so its all done by feel and it was difficult to gauge what size spanner I needed. For future reference, its a 14mm.
The exhaust had to come off too, it just gets in the way otherwise. The gasket was in good shape so no dramas there either.

acf-50 oil, fs365 scotoil or even some wd/40. would keep the corrosion at bay!
Ta for that, I'll sort it asap.
