Title: GMP Officers .... RIP.
Post by: Rusty on September 18, 2012, 11:03:22 PM
I am sure that the news today about the murder of 2 unarmed female officers in Manchester will have shocked all decent people in this country to the core.

Young officers going about their daily routine cut down in the prime of their lives.

May they Rest In Peace.

It is a truly dreadful tragedy,

There is a book of condolonces on the Greater Manchester Police website.
These two young, brave officers had their whole future snubbed out. So young and such a waste. We are lucky to have such selfless bobbies looking after us.
When you see the photos of them, such pretty young ladies who are about my daughters age.Theyjust show such a jest for life, it is so sad and senseless.  RIP

Really is a senseless loss of life in what appears to be a premeditated attack.

I remember far too vividly the murder of Sharon Beshinevsky in Bradford on 18th November 2005 and the attempted murder of her colleague Teresa Milburn in the same incident. Our team played a part in the initial stages of the investigation and it is a period of my career which I will never forget and which haunts me to this day in respect of the manner in which the murder and attempted murder was undertaken by those responsible.

My sincere condolances go out to the families concerned, in fact to all those who knew the two Officers especially work colleagues. I knew of at least one Officer on here from GMP and I am deeply sorry for your loss but I know that you will be well looked after by family and those at work.

RIP

i was on the motorway coming away from hattersley just before 11 and saw the police response piling into the area, didnt know at the time what the incident was , i lost count after 30 or so police vehicles coming the otherway, i saw many unmarked cars with the blues and a few unmarked bmw bikes, im sure GMP had asked for every vehicle to respond.
What is it with the hyde area for murderers
, weve had the moors murderers from there, shipman, and this  one?

RIP those young girls and my thoughts also go out to our poilce friends on here who are much closer to this loss than the general public.

- heard the report on the BBC that your police chief is still firmly against the general arming of police officers , instead relying on compliance by uniform/authority.

- imho : the days of truncheon policing are long over. Break out the heavy weapons !

Sorry, I really don't agree

If all police in this country were permanently armed then I think that villains would just 'tool' themselves up accordingly.

"Under the counter" firearm availability is apparently even easier in this country since the Dunblane/Hungerford etc., massacres than it was before, so the knee jerk handgun ban response has proved to be less than useless.

The police in this country already have highly trained, and very effective Armed Response Units I reckon that's enough

Just my Ten penneth.

+1 Roger
when the scrum walk into the copshop and hand themselves in, then i reckon there's a good cause for the death penalty to be reinstated

There are more cops shot dead in the USA than there should be, and they are armed and many states have the death penalty.
I would like to see hanging for the murder of a police officer, but the States do not seem to have fared and better being armed and executing their murderers.

This is such a tragic senseless killing of the two girls who bravely policed inner city Manchester. But like the others not sure arming the police is the answer. Fortunately most of the public get behind the Police when something as awful as this happens.

Again this is only a personal opinion, and those who think otherwise are equally valid in their observations.

i dont agree that all officers should be armed, just look at america. we have armed response units that can be called upon quickly, so we do have it when and where its needed

If the two female officers had of been armed , they would have still been killed, he was waiting in ambush and their weapons would not have been drawn just walking to the door.

Definitely not for arming the police. As has been pointed out, in this scenario it wouldn't have helped.

- thats open to debate. Armed officers responding to a dwelling type situation have their SOPs , just as they do during a traffic stop.

- it would appear , though unkindly so , that these two officers were probably just plain unexperienced and terribly unlucky. Bad combination.

Pistole, perhaps not intended but I actually find your last paragraph above quite offensive. A little bit of sensitivity wouldnt go amiss.

- indeed , do apologize if its offensive to others reading here.

- i remember reading that throughout man's history at warfare , lessons were usually learnt , but learnt in a negative fashion. Namely where many men died fighting is a certain manner or fashion , lessons were learnt and adopted to avoid a similar fate for their fellow soldiers.

- hence these purveyors of death on the battlefield slowly became very regimented in the way they did things , hence things like fighting manuals , etc.

- same thing with people who live their lives enforcing the law. When enough of your men/women get killed in unfortunate circumstances , it behoves the powers that be to learn from these occasions and maybe develop new ways to handle such situations. Training makes permanent , training doesn't make perfect.

Apparently one of the officers tried to use her Tazer but didn't manage to.

I was in Manchester yesterday for work and the Police are in HIGH visibility/presence mode.
I spoke to some of the people I was working with and they are all sick to the teeth of the gang wars and other shit going down up there but are too frightened to make a stand.

A sad and stupid waste of life.
Looks like they have the scumbag(s) but that won't help those poor womens families, friends and collegues.

If any of you have ever read "The Truth Machine" by James L Halperin, then now would be a good time to start introducing "Swift & Sure".
