I'm in 2 minds about purchasing the extended warranty, been doing some reserch on the main problems that a few have been having.
1- rear shock seizing
2- front discs warping
3- tyre sensor batteries failing
4- exhaust paint flaking
5- front screen mechanism failing
I spoke to simon at kawasaki customer services regarding theses faults. there's been a few rear shocks replaced under warranty due to seizing, but I suspect this is due to the shock not being used. I have always rotated mine from new back and forth to the limit once a month and mine is still moving free! he said he's replaced front discs due to warping, but this is only a very small amount and could be down to how the bike is rode the majority of the time, however he would expect discs to last at least 20,000 miles so even if out of warranty "within reason of course" he would look at replacing discs under warranty if they warp at low miles. there has also been quite a few tyre sensor batteries failing, he said he would expect the batteries to last 4 years so if they fail they also would be replaced under warranty. can't comment on the exhaust flaking because I removed the spud launcher soon after I got the bike, wiped the exhaust over with wd/40 and stuck it in the loft and replaced with a remus can, and as far I know mine is still like brand new in my loft  I never mentioned the screen machanism because this may be due to the bigger larger screen being fitted due to the extra weight and strain caused by the wind force when at motorway speeds. not sure if anyone has had the screen machanism fail with the standard screen fitted. taking this into consideration and depending what miles you are doing you need to decide if spending £350.00 on the extended warranty is worth it, especially if your not sure you will keep the your gtr another 2 years. I'm :undecided: at the moment :hammer:
different strokes for different folks, extra warranty is not for me, im just itching to start my own servicing now that my warranty is soon to expire, ive had zero issues with my bike, the money i save on the xtended and the servicing cost id put towards a hagon shock or different brand front rotors should the need arise. worst case senario is a failing final drive unit, id just ebay a £200 replacement

As far as I aware, there is no issue with failing shaft drives or is there.. :sweatdrop:
Like Mr Viper I have not had ANY issues in 18 months and 17000 miles but I shall take up the extended warranty simply because I am a mechanical arse and the GTR is used for my commute to London so it HAS to work first time every time.

thats a big OH YES ( best churchill dog voice) dont know if they were related to the first gen gtr's but there have been more than a few. Simon chitty at kawasaki told me that it maybe related to dealers not knowing/doing the gear oil change , thats why i went into orbit when my dealer failed to do the gear oil change at first service, id marked the sump plug so i knew he had not done it, how many gtrs out there still with old oil, i now change my final drive oil everytime i do an engine oil change , approx 2k miles .

well this winds me right up.. kawasaki insist their dealers are the very best to service and look after your pride and joy. yet they don't know or can't be botherd to change the shaft oil which is a 10 minute job with just 150ml of gear oil. when I had my first service at 600 mile done. the dealer "so called tech" said to me the shaft oil need not be change. I pointed out that kawasaki recommend it is change at the first service. he replied, theres really no need to change the gear oil untill at least 10,000 miles. so I said changed it anyway with GL5 heavy gear oil SAE 80W/90 sorry don't stock that grade oil because we buy in bulk and most bike shafts use a different type, but kawasaki recommend this oil for the gtr1400 shaft gear oil and you are a main kawasaki dealer. so my point is.. if kawasaki wants us to trust their expensive dealers, they need to get their act together and get a grip of their so called highly trained highly knowledge kawasaki dealers. I also tried another kawasaki dealer and ask if they stock the recommended GL5 gear oil and was told no  ended up buying 1 ltr of putoline GL5 SAE 80W/90 from ebay so I could change the shaft oil myself  at least you know it's been changed and with the recomended grade oil.. I change my oil/fliter every 3,000 miles regardless of time or date. and also change the shaft oil at the same time, for the price of a 1 ltr bottle of putoline gl5 sae 80w/90 gear oil which cost me £7.99 and dose approx 6 changes.. why wouldn't you!
