Today, whilst driving to my soon to be new home to do some decorating I was heading over Cannock Chase and saw a trike stopped with 2 young guys stood on the road side.
I stopped and asked if they needed any help or the use of a phone. At this point I had noticed that one of them was wearing a home made fancy dress lion suit with a long tail so wondered if they were doing something for charity.
The rider (in the lion suit) told me that one of the exhaust baffells had come out and he needed to get he other one out so he could get home. It was a beetle powered trike. He was kneeling on the road and I had to get him to move a couple of times to prevetn his tial fomr being nipped by passing cars.
He asked if I had anthign to and to get the pop rivet out on the other baffle and as I had my household tool bag with me we soon knocked the rivet out with hammer and screwdriver. The baffle was a tight fit and being hot clearly wasn't going to help.
The passenger suggested just driving the trike and waiting for it to be blown out but the rider had more sense so they then pushed the machine so the exhgaust was pointing to the verge and then the rider revved the nutts of the engine waiting for the baffle to be fired out of the can. This didnt work so I then sugested a biger screwdriver and the hammer to try to dislodge the baffle. This worked and I picked up my tools and the trike guys thanked me and I went to do my painting.
A bit of a strange encounter, (and I can't fathom why he didnt just drive home with one missing baffle!) but we all hope that someone will offer help if we are stranded on the road side on 2 wheels.

I thought this was a joke when I started reading it. (http://www.desismileys.com/smileys/desismileys_1819.gif) (http://www.desismileys.com/)

was it the infamous essex lion ?
Not a good deed for the day!.
Riding in Torquay yesterday I was following a car who I am 99% certain was texting. I kept back and wasnt too surprised when he stopped abruptly after rear-ending the car in front which was driven by similar young driver with his souped up rollerskate pumping out some musical nonsense. No-one hurt and I did consider witnessing as I was immediately behind - years ago I would have done but guess what - my cynicism of the young generally made me think "Would they have done the same for me"?
Now if the guy in front had been "normal" in a "normal" car and maybe a little older then the answer would have been different - (judgemental I know but true).
Maybe the thought of a texting driver whacking an equally "likely-to-be-texting" driver has a resolution to itself. After all, if he'd whacked me, I (and bike) would have come off a lot worse.
Nowadays I dont expect any quarter given to me and I think twice about giving it myself (unless its 2 wheeled or 4 legged).
That is a sad but all too true reflection of our reaction to some other drivers these days TT
I have to admit I'm with you on this one
