Title: Extended Warranty
Post by: coastrider on September 08, 2012, 09:28:07 PM
The time is coming up to decide whether to take out the extended warranty on my GTR.
At £350+ it isn't exacty cheap and I wonder if it is money well spent.
Is there enough to worry about with the complexity of the GTR to justify the price of peace of mind or is this another way of lining some pockets???
Any thoughts or experiences would be welcome as I dont know whether to go for it or not.

Cheers
Steve

If you can afford it buy it. The question should be can you afford not to buy the extended warranty?
Preload shock adjuster £600. (Just got mine replaced under warranty)
New exhaust system, approx £600 (Just got mine replaced under warranty).
New pulley system for wind shield, approx £600, Asif needed one on his GTR.

Mines due before March 2013, I'll be buying it thats for sure.

Guess that settles it then.
I shall pay up and play safe.

wise move methinks, replacement OEM parts for modern machines are damned expensive

Its the old adage ................if you don't get a warranty you will most probably need it and vica versa

another view maybe that , if you have warranty you will still have to have dealer servicing, the money you would save on 3 rd party service or diy service could easily underwrite some replacement parts, your 24k service could be an eye watering £800+ just on its own.

as i can service my own machines i never have the ex warranty, my worst case senario would be a final drive failure, id ebay a £200 replacement 2nd hand part, rear shock, id buy an after market branded  one rather than the original. In the last five new bikes ive owned ive followed this route and so far ive never had anything major go, if it happens this time im still ££££'s ahead .

+1 to that Viper

Had my recall done on Thursday, 2pm appointment and kept me waiting for an hour, not happy Colchester Kawasaki !!!!!

Had new PR3's, put on by my local garage, changed Oil, filter and final drive fluid myself. All ready for my trip to Portimao next Sunday (4am start)

Cleaned it today in the 30c sunshine that we get in the South East

It should also cover the front discs.

I'm on my second set.  20,000 miles in one year and it's gone through two sets of discs.  I wouldn't mine, but it's not that I'm hard braking all the time :-(

I ride the same roads in the same manner as I did on my FJR1300.  After 60,000 miles it was still on it's first set of discs.  There's something seriously wrong with the GTR's front brakes, although they do work!
