I like the height of the standard screen but being 6' 2" I do get a bit of head buffering.
Has anyone simply changed the angle of the screen to increase up flow instead of changing for a larger screen?
I was thinking of longer screws and some form of packing on the two top screen securing fasteners (recognising any damage to the mech would void the warranty). +10 degrees would probable be enough.
Cheers, Allan
I am 6 3 and I thought about that, but I went for a Laminar lip and installed it as high as I could, now when the screen is fully up its like being in a cocoon of quietness, heaps better in my opinion.
Alan
- some of the USA fellas have experienced broken windscreen brackets with bigger/taller screens.
- something to look out for.
.
I agree Alan, the laminar lip works very well for me as well, I have tried all sorts of screen and sizes but the standard large screen plus lip is the best I have found.
I think adjusting the screen angle will just increase the chance of turbulance being caused around your crash helmet, but the Laminar lip moves the air over you

Not just USA, my one snapped as well, had to have it welded after a large C-bailey was fitted,
PS anyone want to buy a bracket breaking C- bailey large screen? LOL
+1 for the Laminar LIp. Excellent product
Tom
Look shit though
So do I!!!!!!! :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
I'm thinking two longer screws and couple of pieces of old mini heater hose around 1/2 long. Will give it a go in a week or two and see what happens.
For the sake of a couple £'s, it's worth a try given the price of laminar lip or taller screen.

I bought and fitted one of these in readiness for last weeks France tour and it works very very well
Having had a 'visor' on a previous GTR I can safely report that the Laminar Lip is much better.
And Chris, some might consider that the BMW 1600 looks shit..beauty is in the eye of the beholder (aledgedly) :mfr_lol:
where did you get the laminar lips from?
Here alfor

Thanks for this - do you just stick them on have you used mechanical fastening as referred on the website?
Allan
- what lips are we talkin about here gentlemen ?
.
I have used the MRA flip with the clamp on brackets save drilling holes in my original screen.

The 'Lip' comes supplied with 6 round heavy duty velcro type pads which I think are 3m and they do attach very securely. Make sure that your screen is very clean and wiped with alcohol pads to ensure good contact
Having just travelled to France and enjoyed the benefits of the Laminar Lip I can recommend it..On my return yesterday there were very strong cross winds on the A1 & A66 in particular and whilst the screen was taking a buffeting it remained solid.
thanks for that - appreciated!!
If you buy the Laminar Lip make sure you get the right one.. Theres 2 types for the GTR.. Standard screen size & Tall screen size..
I have bolted mine on after my first one flew off on the M26 while I was doing 120 :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

Is that the same as a cuntstable?
Do they come ready to bolt on our did you have to drill the lip Deb?
I think I paid £80, it came from Latvia , had one on my Blackbird, my CBF and now on the GTR. It comes with a template to drill the holes through your screen however I bought the clamps that fit over the screen and in my opinion are the best option.
I wouldn't be without it as the GTR does suffer from the wind noise right across the ears if your proper bloke size.

Thanks for that - £110 off the internet with the clamps. Looks really simple and provides some flexibility that some of the larger screens imply dont.
trousersnake, how does that affect the screen when it's in a fully raised position ?
I only ask as I noticed that the Laminar Lip fitted to my GTR does seem to place a bit more strain on the screen and it's mountings when it's fully raised in windy conditions.
x=creen ordered. :clap:
Olde, it does flap a tiny bit, when up. But to be honest I whack it right up, look through it and forget about it.
It give great protection.
The hinges that came with my one are quite long so it comes with loads of height if needed. They do smaller hinges which I'm going to try, I have bought replacements before when a pidgeon hit me for about £20.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxking screens, dont get me started !!!!!!!
I regularly do 1 or 2 big trips into Europe to watch WSB or MotoGP (or both if calendar suits). Anyway, used to do it on an 03 Blade but switched to a ZZR14 with hard luggage for the security and convenience also slightly less cramped than the Blade. This year I treated myself to the ultimate in comfortable tourers the amazing GTR. It came s/hand with both the bigger screen and the standard. I have tried both in every position possible and still get buffeting so bought a standard size smoke tint with Vario adjustable spoiler off E-bay, still no better!! Saw a larger screen with an adjustable "deflector" on E-bay. Still no better and looks ugly (until I try to resell it when I will describe it in glowing terms!!) Wary of the big scereen Calsci due to excess strain at high speeds. This is the most comfortable bike I have ridden (780 miles last Sunday, Essex to Biarritz !!) but I have had to stop using mp3 player and put in earplugs to drown out the excessive tiring wind noise, the Blade and the ZZR were far better for airflow. My next(and last option) is to try another(clamp on not drilled) Vario spolier on my bigger screen(its that or an R1200rt ?????)

I must be lucky or something....
Got my 09 GTR a couple of weeks ago with a standard screen , got buffeted about like I was at a Status Quo concert :embarrassed:
Got myself a Calsci screen in Large ... what a difference! It was for me the difference between love and hate for the bike.... now I love it
( 5'9" short)
:ninja:
Standard screen with Laminar lip works just fine for me.
I can adjust it for quieter running on long motorway hauls, and still enjoy wind rush when I want a bit of noise/support when I'm not on motorways .[/b]
