Title: Isle of Man trip
Post by: BigAlan on September 02, 2012, 08:02:56 PM
Where doe sone start, well at home i guess, started out Monday27th Aug at 5am to get the ferry from Liverpool to Douglas, stopped for breakfast and fuel and off we went, crossing was as rough as hell, one of us (not me) was a little worse the wear, got to Douglas and the days racing had been cancelled to the next day, the house we use is right on the TT course, at the end of the Kronk Y Voddy straight right where it kinks right and down, dam quick it is as well.

I think the pic is of Ryan Farquar but cant be sure, his uncle was unfortunatly klled in Wednesdays Race.

I did three laps of the compete circuit and yes went over the finishing line laid on the tank doing exactly 30mph, although i got a pic of the bike at the pit exit.

Did the usual sight seeing bit by riding all around the island.

All in all i came to realise that being a motorcycle racer falls into two brackets, those who dont lift off when a right kink comes along and they include Farquar, Dunlop etc who are doing best part of 160Mph on the older classic superbikes and those who back off and go down a gear.

We did share a chat with John McGuiness who won his 16th TT this year when he came to visit us next door to spectate with his wife and child, and he rekons the straight bit where we were was about 190 + and not to difficult.

Stuff that, i managed a healthy 125mph and with the top box and panniers on saw a little weaving from side to side, i guess that was normal, perhaps i might try it again with the paniers off one day.

Nice pics there big al. Not a place I've ever been to nor a place that I'd actually want to go to during the races, it'd be far too busy for me at my sedate pace which I ride at. Nevertheless it is somewhere which I will hopefully get to one day. Just one question, why did you go over the finishing line at only 30mph? Is there some significance to that?

That's the speed limit during a normal day and the police are hot on nut cases riding around, spoke to local police in a pub and a lot of the speed limits don't apply normally, only during both the TT and GP weeks.
