thinking off splashing the cash and getting the kawasaki 47L top box with the matching lid . is this a good quality box or should i buy a givi , i have a monokey top plate on the bike , motech one at that, i take it that the kawasaki box will fit this . thanks
The box provided is a Givi model, so good quality, but is a MONOLOCK fitting, and you will need a matching plate. If you have a Givi monokey topbox I am not sure it is worth splashing the money unless you want extra capacity or the colour coded look.
I got the colour coded one with my GTR tourer, it went straight in the loft and I use my regular one from my previous bike.
I think I'm right in saying that Kawasaki luggage is Kappa which I think I'm right in saying is basically GIVI,
But I'm sure someone on here will be able to confirm if the fitment is universal
Don't buy it!
I made that mistake and still regret it.
That the maximum weight allowance is 2kg (2 pints of milk and a loaf of bread) says it all.
Yes, they are re-branded Givi boxes (well, most likely cheap licensed copies made by someone else) and flimsy and over-priced.
You can probably buy the same Givi box for a third of the price on the net. :ohplease:
Someone here said that you don't even need tools to open them without a key.
thanks for the advice think i will go for a 10kg givi one sod the cost i will buy the best i can ..................
They are Givi - not a 'licenced' copy.
The Kawasaki 'version' has the matching panel on top which is colour matched AND has the ridges moulded to match the panniers and cooling fins in fairing.
Price difference is negligible. I used mine for 3 years no problem quite often fully loaded way over the capacity recommended. For the 'factory' look I think it's worth it, looks better than a black 'add-on' which imo devalues and cheapens the look of a beautiful bike.
Kappa / Givi are same stuff
:agree:
:agree: too.
So do I, nowt wrong with the Kawasaki branded stuff
The only bit I don't like is the look of the mounting plate fitted on the OE rack, a bit of a dog's dinner IMO, more noticeable when not carrying the top box. I have a Phil's farkle plate fitted, looks much neater .
well after reading the replies in the end i ordered a 47L kawasaki top box as i thought that it would look the best , and yes is does , but it is very flimsy and the box itself is no better than a £30 one . the colour coded lid is very good . a £30 box and a £170 lid , the panniers that i have for sale on ebay off my zzr1200 are a far far better quality made by givi . the plasic is 10 times thicker . the kawasaki one is never worth £200 i paid . i feel like i have been ripped off if i could have seen it i would never have bought it . let this be a warning to any body else check it out before you buy ,,,,,,,,,,
It might appear flimsy but its perfectly functionable. If you dont like it just send it back.

Sorry, but I can't resist - What did I tell you? :whistling:
What bloody difference does the thickness of the plastic make. Fact is they dont burst open and scatter your assorted goodies all over the queens highway. Whats more I have never heard of anyone having the plate/ box break. I have used, and overloaded mine lots of times and it has never given me cause for concern. As Steve says if your not happy with it send it back, then spend your cash on something else.
ive got the kawasaki 47l version and very disapointed with it, flimsy and the opening catch continually fails to open , wish id got the givi proper one, the kawa one is scooter grade

sorry but mine did just that on a trip to Switzerland. i ended up having to use a bungie cargo net to help keep it closed. my mates ended up calling the bike a 'KAWABUNGIE 1400' lol
i got a replacement under warranty, that is still flimsy and can be opened without a key. should have got a give
Geoff's statement is still valid since they don't have a monarchy in Switzerland. :mfr_lol:
So if you stay within the borders of the UK as long as the queen is still alive you should be fine.
flimsy or thiner plastic means more movement within the hinges and catches ect , this means poor panel alignment which means more likely to pop open
I must have been lucky so far then. I put all sorts of shit in mine to go to the Cotswolds and it was fine.
Yep .. mine has been fine too ..used most days and been to France etc and all is well.
I always thought the Kawasaki branded top boxes were made by Givi anyway.
They just have a Kawasaki top lid cover so I cant see what all the fuss is about..
Debs.....exactly!
Does the GIVI box fit onto the Kawasaki baseplate or do you have to get a baseplate for the GIVI ??

If they are the same top box then yes, but a Monokey wont fit on a Monolock & Vise Versa

Thanks. Looks like the Kawasaki is the monolock system then. Do you perhaps know whether or not Givi makes a 47 Litre monolock top box and what their product code/serial number is ? I have the Kawasaki 39L top box but need something bigger. I also want to be able to use both boxes without changing base plates if you know what I mean.
Deon
Deon, have a quick look at this site, by clicking into "my motorcycle" you should be able to see exactly what GIVI offer with relevant product codes etc., then you can search for the most competitive prices on the web....good luck
http://www.givi.co.uk/
BTW ~ to all concerned..as I said before Kawasaki luggage is Kappa which is basically GIVI, (maybe under licence)
Heres the link to ALL the Monolock top boxes.

The 47L Kawasaki branded box I have is the Givi E470 SIMPLY III.
With the E470 SIMPLY III you can buy a colour coded lid top to match ur bike if you wish.
Hope this helps
Thanks for all the advice. Does anyone know if the baseplates are the same ?????
Deon
base plates for Monokey will, I assume, be different to the ones for monolock Deon
The Monolock & Monokey are different base plates. But a Monolock base will fit ANY Monolock top box.
Watch the video I posted above ^^
The kawasaki boxes are made by givi, however, made to a price, with weaker catches, weaker hinges and a thinner grade plastic
Ive owned both boxes and at the same time , the givi monolock ( the kawasaki one ) is generally aimed at the scooter market , is cheaper and is of less overall quality, ive had nothing but problems with it.
The givi monokey ( the beefier one in the right picture) is much better, you can physically feel the weight difference and it closes and performs so much better, i had this box on 3 zzr bikes , the same box for several years.
There is a big difference between the two boxes , thats why the price is different, did you honestly expext mr kawasaki to put the better quality one on our bikes?
next time round id defo go for the better box even if it means losing out on the kawasaki colour coded top option
