Hello from Norway. I feel like i should say somthing here as i have been lurking the forum for a while and read it all soon. Hope you are able to read my limitd english.
Bought a 08 GTR last week. As a nice upgrade from my 92 zzr1100. Each mile i spend on the GTR the more i love it. Sure there is some issues but overall im extremly happy.

Welcome JohnnyTh, if you have been lurking for some time you will already know that you have just joined the Asylum :mfr_lol:
Where abouts in Norway are you ...I have a good friend outside Oslo
Nice ZZR BTW
:185: Johnny, a great looking black GTR there.
Hi
Thank you for the welcomes. I live way south in norway about 6 hr from Oslo. Less on a GTR:)
I like this forum, very informative. I already learned that the black GTR's is faster:)
One thing i would like to know is how to adjust the mirrors. Think mine is stuck.
Already had some of it in bits as i instaled my 660 and autocom. Thanks to the helpfull post here i was suprised to find so much room under the seat.
The bike have had two previous ovners, first one was Kawasaki Norway and used as a demo bike. Then it was bought by a Kawasaki dealer and used by ovner as his private bike/demo.
The seat is kawasaki gel and at first i did not like it but now its ok. Also came with a kawasaki gtr cover. Witch is handy as i work on oilrigs and park at the airport for 2 weeks at the time.
Im sure il have loads of questions in the future
Somthing funny.. Im slling the ZZR on a norwegian site. And today i was contacted by this dude in Manchester. He want me to give him my paypal and then have the bike shipped to UK. Funny thing is that you can buy a ZZR for 1/3 of the cost in norway. If its to good to be true it most likly is to good to be
Cheers

hi, my mirrors , just push the glass around with your fingers, mine were a bit stiff the first time i did this
Hej Johnny.
And now... let's change back to English! The above was just a short intro to Johnny about this GTR forum in our "nearly" native lingo... Denmark and Norway lingo is just like south & north in UK! After all... we're all viking's - and you guys - are just the leftovers from one of our many visits to UK!
Enjoy!
Takk mosegaard
Price on a new GTR in norway is about 288 000nkr so expensive here to. And is not common here. I would love to try a GTR with a higer screen. As the one i have feel to low.
Might need to push harder on the mirrors

Welcome Johnny!
Glad you're enjoying your GTR - and I must also agree that the ZZR was also a cracking bike

Good luck with the Jeep resto, it looks like there's a big job ahead of you there
More pics as you progress would be good please
Thanx. Always nice to know someone is interested in what you do beside riding a bike.
Here is a pic of a dodge weapon carrier i restored in 2010. It was a full frame off resturation. Used 35 liters of paint on it. It have won a few norwegian awards, including Best Resturation 2010. Kinda proud of that

The ram mount that came with my Zumo660 was a perfect fit on the handlebars. Did not expect it to fit this good. the curve of the mount fits perfectly over the original clutch handebar bracket.
welcome
I think I would be happier on my XT660Z Tenere on your interesting roads.
Honestly i dont see the need. Gtr should be fine

Hi Johnny,
sounds like a great trip, planned something similar myself but only got as far as Croatia, as was just too far in the time allowed.
How long will your trip be, how many miles a day, m-ways/tolls or the scenic route. Any must see places/museums etc. Are you timing it to incorporate the GP or WSB at Brno.
Fit new tyres before you go,
Coman
im planing 4 weeks. that include a week with family in Turkey. 1 week down and 12 days back. On the way down i plan to do a Iron butt Saddle Score doing North of Denmark to Budapest (1680km) in 24 hrs. If i can do that i only need a avrage of 400km the next 6 days. Depending on work i might have more time. But the 12 days going back should give me time for some sightsing.
I dont have much set points i want to see. dont know much about the area. but would like to ride Transfagarasan . I understand it might not be open this early but that should only be the top. Or Transalpinia  Im a war history buff so need to reserch that and see if there is anything special i wana se. My daughter is into Vampiers so might need to find Count Vlads castle  and get here som pics
Coman how much time did you have?
My tyres have 2/3 left. was hoping not to replace them before leaving but buy new somwhere down there. Will be cheeper then Norway to, evrything is
Hi Johnny,
I only had 2 weeks, Essex to Calais to Poland to meet mate coming from Stockholm. Down to Brno for the MotoGP. Trundle thro' Slovak, etc to Split. Ferry to Ancona for the WSB at Vallelunga, Trundle thro Europe, mate heads N to home, I head E to home.
Really fancy the trip to Turkey (I would love to do Afghanistan as it was in the 60's-70's) (watch the Man Who Would Be King with Sean Connery and Michael Caine, great country with great scenery and great people before religion reared its ugly head), but finding mates who can afford the time or the cost of a trip like that is difficult.
Not into the Iron Butt thing, clocking up miles just for the sake of it. If I am travelling I want to see the country and its people and thats means very flexible timetable. I never pre-book rooms apart from the race meet accom' .
Have a good safe trip and as they all say post pics upon your return
Coman
the iron butt thing is only becurse i want to cover some miles the first day and i have been to this area many times before. and want more time on the route after Budapest. So i thought why not give it a go :)
I wish i had a mate that would do somthign like this with me, but all my mate think a 2 hr ride is a realy long ride :)
finaly mangage to make a pic from google maps. this is my planed route in may

- yo , good luck with your trip.
- the little that I have learned from a recent trip :
1. you must be well and healthy.
2. your bike (esp tyres) must be equally healthy,
3. if its a muti day ride : plan your longer routes at the start. Ie , you will ride shorter and shorter legs as you go on. Its generally planning for fatigue and also a creeping feeling of wanting to go home ...
4. if you're riding alone , learn to adopt the "far from home and alone pace" - ie , unfamiliar stretches and bends , you will ride at a pace where you WILL NOT drop the bike. Drop her even at a slow speed and break off your gear pedal in the middle of no where = you're sunk.
5. hotels : plan ahead , book ahead and ask ahead whether there is safe parking for your bike. You DO NOT want to wake up to a disabled bike.
6. packing : on a bike , you will look and smell like crap , no matter what. So , don't bother to pack nice new clothes .. pack as little as you can (clothing can be easily washed in the hotel tub and hung and they will dry ready for the next day's riding) , but pack as much tools as you can bear with,
7. the GTR's "range to empty" computer readings are very accurate (but the gauge is not accurate - ie, half a tank's reading on the gauge does NOT mean half range). So , plan your fuel stops in advance. You are NOT lost if you have fuel.
8. GPS on a motorcycle is god - send. Reading a map requires stopping (and stopping alot will increase your riding time ALOT). And when you're desperate , running out of time and daylight is fading = you will fall back onto the GPS to get you there.
9. Get a GoPro camera , stick it onto the top of your helmet. You will treasure its recordings.
10. Have fun and call the family everyday.
.
thanx, lots of good advise there
oh i think my new PDM60, is at the post office. Wife is on her way to pick it up. Cant wait to install it this weekend!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UES2kHp9so (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UES2kHp9so)
That looks like an excellent product, as easy to install as a 'Fuzeblock'...shame about the crap film production/camera work though
The only reference to price that I can see is that its RRSP is $109.00 which seems reasonable
Aye, that film is crap. Il keep you informed how it works out.
Installed my grip puppies today. And i must say thank you for the tip. Feels like they where made for my hands now!
I swear by them, I'm sure it was Boomer who first mentioned them on here to me.
I love 'em too they're comfy and make the grips a better size for my fat mitts
Finaly its pring in Norway and i was finaly able to ride the bike the 8 hr insted of flying. 2C in the morning but sunny and dry roads.
But on a local sightseeing ride i did find a few icy bits of road.

Blimey that looks nasty .... did you see that Ros ? SNOW !!!
LOL@Rusty
This is not as bad, but when it's too hot I have to ride up a large mountain to cool down...

I bet that was colder than your usual ride out Ros
Slightly... Still didn't stop me from wearing my summer mesh trousers though :)
Mind you, that's all I have...
Johnny, what do you mean you found a few icy bits of road  the whole bloody road is covered in the white stuff. I've seen less shut down airports!!!

Lol.
I mean it was only a cuple of places that was 50 m long or so. There was no sunlight here.
Road was great between the icy bits. I belive norwegians are more tolerant of icy roads the most UK drivers :ninja:
Today i have succesfully replaced the tyre presure battery in the rear wheel. And put on a new roadpilot 3 tyre.
How many miles fo you guys get from the rp4?
Pilot Road 3, I get about 8,000 miles (13,000Km) from the rear tyre.
Front lasts about 12,000 miles (19,000Km)
I get just under 250 miles!!

It not funny at all!! As it is ONLY 250 miles on account of several untimely punctures. :mfr_lol:
Thanks to Winston though, I am running on them repaired and I now have my last one at the dealers just waiting......
2500? I can only dream.
Andrew, sorry, I thought that was a typo. Even so, if I only got 2500 miles out of one I'd be miffed. I put some PR3's on in March 2012 and I'm still running on them now 8k miles later and they still look good and perform well.

Visited Istanbul today. That was interesting, to say the least. The GTR even acted like the local scooters.
Reminds me of my solo trip to Morocco. Riding with mates is great but the excitement of doing a big trip on your own is a real buzz.
I liked reading your report as well.
Journey on and have a safe ride back home!
noticed today that one of the brackets holding the windscreen was gone. screws where still there but the rest was gone. Will see on monday if its possible to get a new one in 2 days. if not i just need to do a temporary fix.
Local Kawa dealer would look into it. Today the bike is with them for a oil change and all filters. They promised a full service, including all filters. but im not sure how much i should put into that. Price was only £120
Johnny, do you mean the plastic cover over the actual mounting bolt?
yes thats the one.
They cleaned it to and i could hardly recognice it. Did not look like the same bike.

If you are worried about the screen moving too much, remove the 2 smaller screws, put some washers with some rubber underneath them and then fit them again.
Have a fun holiday and enjoy the ride home.
Im home again. 11000km later. No big issues with the bike exept the windscreen and a stuck brake light on the rear brake that needed atention on the road.
Welcome back Johnny. Sounds like it was an awesome trip.
Did you get the screen sorted with a new plastic piece?
Johnny, 11000km, that is one hell of a trip, now its time for me to read your write up on the other forum from start to finish. Congratulates, the GTR clearly is a grand tourer! .
I'd like to challenge others, (they know who they are) :whistling: to do that on a ZZR.
Fixed the screen temperarly with 2 rubber washers.

Looks good Johnny. Congrats to Tea for the production too.
I liked your striptease at around 6 minutes. (that should get a few more viewers! <LOL>)
Istanbul looks a little less crazy that when I was there in 1996.
In 96 there were lots of Mercedes 220 diesel taxis, and the traffic often spilled onto the pavements.
Also a lot more smoke and pollution. From your video it looks quite nice now, but just as crowded.
Thanx Boomer, Tea is only 13 and new to video editing but know a lot more then me so why not let her do it. I tried to first but it was crap. Hers is better.
The striptease was needed as it was a wam day, nd boy is that GTR a hot bike. When tempraturs reached 40C i tried to keep my knees away from the bike.
Trafic in Istanbul was cracy, i dont think the video show how mad it was, but did not notice a lot og polution. Must be cleaner then what it was.

It's not the bike - it's the rider.
If you're scared of cows it doesn't matter what bike you ride. :mfr_lol:
BTW loud noises like bleating your horn or shouting doesn't impress cattle whatsoever in my experience.
Those look quite road-savvy and calm, so if need be you just move towards them and they will eventually get out of the way.

You are right. They where calm so i was not worried at all about riding in between them, they politly moved over to give me room. More then you can say about some drivers.

You're being robbed blind I tell ya, robbed blind! :sweatdrop:
Not only that it's got 107k miles on the clock. That's twice the price it is in Sweden and they are already expensive!
Here the same car & mileage costs between £7k and £8k.
Johnny, I just bought an S-Class Merc (2001) with 120k miles (192,000Km) for £3500.
The Aircon needs to be fixed (leaks) and it needs a wheel bearing but I do a lot of motorway mileage and it does 40Mpg and is dead quiet and dead comfy!

But they pay well... Thats somthin at least.
Do you want to sell your Rukka gear? :whistling:

Actuly im thinking about buying a bike over here. Depending on how long this will last. Atm its only to july. If we get another year here il buy myself somthing like a F800gs
Oh, i forgot to tell you guys. My Ironbutt ride was approved.. Yay i dont need to do it again.
Congratulations Johhny - that's a hell of a story!

If its to good to be true it most likly is to good to be
Cheers

Now that is a beautiful view
Beautifull and Deadly. In 1863 it killed 36.000 People and changed the weather on Earth for 3 years. The higest mountain you see on the Picture is whats left of 1/3 of the original isle. the rest was blown away. The bag was heard in Australia.
Maybe you will like this view to. Even if its just a cloud

By the way, I think Charlie had a huge eruption once, not in 1863 obviously, I think he said it was in 1993, come to think of it, I'm not sure now whether he said eruption.....it sounded something like that.......
Hehe 1993. I have hear about that. But I heard it was a one time only. Krakatoa have had several eruptions.

Hello JohnnyTh, are your new seat better than the original seat?
I totaly love it. Sadly i have not been able do do any long rides. Longest was a 5 hr ride, but feels a lot better. And om not sliding forward like i did on the original.
And the heat.. Mmmm i love the heat.
Good to hear you are happy with your seat. The forward slide starts to be really anoying after half a day riding.
Need to find a solution to this problem.
Never tried a heated seat on a motorcycle.
Will try one with a heated seat before I buy me a new seat.
Please post your thoughts of the seat when you have tried it on a long ride.

Sadly, no I don't. My dad's cousin did the geneoligy work and followed it to the US when the family immigrated. He never told us if he found kinfolk there.
Texas is one big state, Beaumont to El Paso, is 834 miles (eastern border to western border). Brownsville to Perryton is 830 miles ( southern border to northern border). When people ask, "Where is XXXXX?", the answer is, "just up the road a piece.", which for us it is, but to the traveler it's actually 200-300 miles away. So come on over, and be ready to ride, as we have over 303,000 miles of paved roads and probably half that many in dirt/gravel roads too.

Some day i will ride Texas, and other suthern states. Sounds like its a But like Norway with long distances. From the south end to north its 2040 miles, the shortest route. Up north is often half a hour ride between towns. I remember during my military service on the Russian border we mesured distances in hrs driving and hrs walking, not kilometers.

I want a Sanctuary Katana & CB1100R if you can help :ohplease: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Most excellent!
Here in the US, a teen can ride whatever the parents are stupid enough to buy for junior. ZX10R, R1, Hyabusa, what ever. I wish that we has the different levels of licenses for the youth. Would probably lower the death toll of riders under 21. Because of no license differences, smaller displacement motorcycles don't sell here any longer. 300cc's is considered a kids bike, which is just stupid. tp
You get your licence for 125ccm -and no more then 15 hk- bikes at 16. But if supervised you can start training at 15. The person supervising need to be on a bigger bike and have comunication.
At 18 you can upgrade to 35 hk license. Then after two years its automaticly upgraded to heavy bike with no limitations.
