Title: 2nd bike
Post by: tapps on August 25, 2012, 06:14:04 PM
how many of you have another bike aswell as your gtr,i like the gtr it's a bit of a beast when you want to go out on let's say a sunday bimble,i'm seriously thinking of getting something else as well,i had a xjr1300 in the past & kind of miss it,i've seen a xjr 1300 at a dealer's on a 2008 plate, viper end can as well as the original,7,300 on the clock,in very good condition,I'M TEMPTED TO ENQUIRE.

depends what you want to do on that nice sunday morning! my other bike is a 2012 zx6r  but I've always had a middel weight in the garage. a few of my mates still have middel weight super sports so still enjoy a nice sunny sunday around the twisties  also use it for work pending weather.. well it's new, don't want to get it wet and  :shit:ted up now do I  :nono: it also helps to keep the miles down on the gtr, and it's a dam site easier to filter through the peak hour traffic

the one i had was a 2002 carbed version,i encountered running problem's with it !!!!!!!!! hence i got rid,the 2008 one i've seen is fuel injected,in very good condition, even has new boot's on it,i'm so tempted to go back again to see what they will take on a cash sale.it's up for £4,995.

5 bikes in my garage at present. But don't tell anyone, especially the wife.

GTR, ZZR1400, Suzuki DRZ with off road and supermoto tyres/wheels (almost 2 bikes alone), and a couple of Vespas. All different in their own way and thats why it's so brilliant, because you can ride according to your mood.

Perhaps an XJR might be a bit too much like the GTR, I'm thinking.

By the way I shhot  :gun_bandana: burglars.

I can see why Dave has his ZX6R ... I love the Gtr to bits but sometimes, it must be my age or a mid life crisis, I just fancy something a bit smaller, lighter, and blisteringly quick ... just to get it out of my system .. can't put my finger on it but I think some of you out there know what I mean.

Oh dear, I've had this passion for bikes for waaaay too long, and that kinda question gets my juices flowing    :mfr_lol:  in fact I really can't help myself when it comes to bikes, I counted up the other day just how many I've had since about 1993 and it came to 31 !

There's been ones I've had, and then sold which I deeply regret doing, most of which are on this picture

Tapps, I fully understand where you're coming from, and an XJR 1300 is a damn nice bike, mind you so is the GSX1400, but if I was to go for a naked bike I think it would have to be a  ZXR 1100/1200 that way I have some fun and remain loyal to the Kawasaki Brand

Here's the current crop, which has been slimmed down from what I used to have

Tapps just go for it, who am I to tell you owt else.......remember though you can only ride one at once  :mfr_lol:

I know what you mean Mr rusty.. but don't think it's a mid life crisis  I've always had a middel weight super sport. the last one I had was a 636cf6 but sold it due to having the zzr1400 and the gtr1400. I found the zzr and the gtr to be to similar so was not getting the benefit of a completely different riding experience so traded the zzr for the zx6r  if I did not have the zx6r I would defo have a zrx 1100 or 1200 as a second bike their a excellent machine. the new model zx6r is with out doubt the best middel weight super sport out there now! but the new model triumph 675 is a close second, but even the triumphs extra 75cc can't match the zx6r for acceleration, mid range power, top end, handling due to the zx6r showa big piston forks, new designed slipper clutch and 10 kg weight reduction over the previous zx6r "kawasaki have passed themselves coming back this time" as far as super sport technology is concearned

i'm off to see the man about that 08 xjr i saw last friday,i've had the carbed version & had that for 9 year's,it developed a running rich problem,i had it looked at by a yamaha dealer,it had a cab's strip down, clean ect & the problem was still there,i then decided to let it go,i done a p/x on a z1000sx,didn't realy like that, hence the GTR,i seem to like a heavy bike, the 08 has fuel injection, just had a phone call from a mate who's been diagnosed with the dreaded terminal C,told him i was gonna look at another bike & he said just go for it,life's to short, gonna get booted up to see if i can do  deal for cash.

Tapps, congrats on the new XJR. Looks lovely.

I am lucky enough to have always had a second bike (mine is a ZX10R currently) that I can use instead of the GTR if wanted. I have to say though, I rarely ever use it - the GTR is just too good a bike to cope with the compromises (rucksack, getting soaked, constant risk of jail time etc) that commuting on the 10R involves. I am not going to bother MOT'ing, taxing or insuring it anymore and leave it as the trackbike.

Saying that though, 99% of my riding is just my 102 mile daily commute. I (almost) never go out riding socially at weekends. Perhaps if I did, a second bike would be used more.

Martin.
