Once the school holidays are over, I doubt I will survive the commute to work in the car.
I'm looking to get a cheapish bike to last me a few months (about Nov ish). This is so I can see how the finances are and see if there's an upgrade to the GTR
Budget is max 2k. Not bothered what kind of bike it is, as long as the resale value is ok. Intention is to PX for a GTR anyhow.
Asif, these are decent machines and do retain their value..I used to have one. Its what I started back into biking on. 1300cc engine carbed on the older machines and injectiion on the newer ones.

Asif there's a few at Autorama which could provide a 'deal' for you and they would be in a position to p/x again at a later stage
Why not speak to Brian ? I hope you find something suitable soon

Mt friend has a bike for sale.. Its a Yamaha Virago v x 535... They want £1400 for it.. It has 12 months MOT but they live in Essex..
:whistling: I would chip in to see Asif on that! :mfr_lol:
you could try this..... :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
think twice about getting a non faired bike, you will miss that protection

Mogs thats just the right size for 2kwacks (http://www.gtr1400.co.uk/forums/Smileys/default/whistling.gif)
Asif, I would second Lonewolf's recomendation for an XJR 1300. Sold mine to buy the GTR & still miss it. If you fancy a bike with a fairing have a look at VFR's. I've had two a 750 & 800, used all weathers for comuting & in about 50K miles apsrt from consumable only had to replace one shock & one reg/rec. I found them great bikes & am tempted to buy another for a winter hack. Best of luck with your search.
ive got a rough zzr1100 that needs some feckling, runs great but tatty , £650

Bloody hell that's a good deal, I had an Ebomy & Firecracker ZZR 1100 in 1993/4 it was a fantastic bike

 and double  I'm assuming you haven't been on a diversity course..!  are you saying that I'm a short arse.. because if you are I have no other option but to :agree:  p.s sorry you could not make the jock trip :whistling:
if I was in the market for a older runaround I would defo get my self a zrx1100, or possible even the zrx1200 if the price was right. both the 1100 and the 1200 are excellent machines. bullet proof engines, look dam good, go like stink, and the eddie lawson replica looks the dogs danglies. had the 1200s model for 5 years, another bike I've always regretted selling. it was a 2003 model with 11,250 miles on the clock and sold it for £3,200 4 years ago, I've seen them selling for more than that now  but you can pick up a very nice zrx1100 with low to average miles for around £1,500 and £2,000 for a top condition one
:agree: unfortunately the superb ZRX doesn't have a fairing which I think Asif would benefit from
As Roger states doing Asifs commute on a non faired bike would be tough, I think some kind of protection from the elements is essential. And anyway ZRX s are far to nice to be sloshing through all that salt, and winter shite. Great bike yes, winter bike, I dont think so.

Pfft.. stop being such a wet hen, wtf did you all do before fairings where common on bikes.... and anyway if you must have protection from the elements, try this.. :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Oh how I remember my biking days before there was such things as fairings, I've still got non faired bikes.
Mind you I also remember cars without power steering Mogs  :mfr_lol:
Well said Rog, I remember that my first car an Austin 8 didn't have a heater. brrrrrrrr

When two speed wipers heated rear windows and servo brakes were a costly option, only cross ply tyres were standard equipment in those (halcyon) days :mfr_lol:

Heaters! Pah!! back when i were a lad we didnt have floors in our cars, we had to peddle them along with paper mache shoes, we was poor back then.
You boys had it good.
Alan
Yea .. And I lived in t septic shoe box at t side of road. :mfr_lol:
eee by gum.... when I were a lad me dad sucked on a mint and we all sat round to keep warm :mfr_lol:
oh god.... we've started the bloody Northerns off!.... :hammer: :mfr_lol:
:mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Eh by gum, we were so poor we couldn't afford butter for our bread ,so we used to rub a slice on a pigs back. Oh and we had to hang our toilet paper out to dry so we could use it again.
well the 1200s model dose have a half fairing  and a decent pair of gortex textiles and boots would keep the weather at bay  here's a picture of my zrx1200s 2003 model which sadly I no longer have
lived in hole in ground, licked road clean before we started our 25 hour shift 8 days a week, tell this to kids today and they neer believe you
Moving On .......... ! Asif ... you need a bike with a fairing for the winter.
how about one of these.(http://i734.photobucket.com/albums/ww347/alanrtappin/9D7733DAA18F5C162DEC9E51199C7E.jpg)

So cummon Asif, have you found a suitable bike yet ?
Well seeing as it's gonna be a wet 'un this weekend he could always get MG to make hime one!!..... no welding required :mfr_lol:

Nope. Didn't realise how much I need one.
Each day I normally spend 2 hours commuting on the bike. Its a great way to relieve stress, and with the high pressure role I have at the moment, could do with getting on one ASAP
Asif, a few weeks ago you were doubtful you would get back on a bike quickly and yet here you are looking for something asap. That in itself is excellent news, it just doesn't seem right you not having a bike. I'd personally as a short term machine just get an old BMW 1100 GS they hold their value and just go on and on and on. Theres plenty out there on ebay and the like. You could be back on the bike by the weekend!
Did you buyt yourself a new lid and how's the insurance matter coming along?
Biking is in my blood!
As for insurance, what a hassle. Somewhere down the line, someone is taking a cut of the payment. I Apparently what is being offered and what I'm receiving don't match. Threatened to get the ombudsman involved today.
Insurance companies are like solicitors, sharks! :mfr_lol:
Step back a generation and get a GTR1000.
Superb fairing especially in the winter, comfy, nowhere near as much power or handling as the 1400 but still a good bike.

I'm hoping to get mine back on the road as with a PR3 front it should be the perfect winter hack.

Good suggestion, they are a bloody good bike, and reliable
I'm with Mr Wolf ... an older Gs will serve you well .... cheap as Northern chips and there are loads of them out there .... get one soon otherwise that new Rukka kit of yours will go to waste !
Asif,
Great to hear you are going to be getting back on a bike. If you genuinely think you are only going to be keeping it a few months, then swapping for something better, I would suggest getting something very sellable rather than something perfect for your needs now.
Something cheap, solid, budget commutery like a Hornet 600, SV650 or Fazer 600. You'll get decent examples of each for a grand, shift it easily in the spring for the same money, and they are all still fun bikes to ride. I bought a '99 Fazer myself for 3 months when the engine grenaded on my previous bike, really wonderful workhorse that put a smile on the face, handled well and did 60mpg.
Dealers will laugh at you when you come to PX anything more than 3 years old, so at the cheap end, plan on selling privately. Decent condition £1,000 bikes walk out of the door very easily these days.
Martin.
Perfect bike for your needs Asif in my humble, would be a xj/diversion 900 Yamaha, shaft drive bomb proof engine, just do you nice till it's time to buy something proper.
If he doesn't buy a bike soon I'll have first dibs on his RUKKA gear...... :whistling:
WELL !!!! have you decided yet, the suspense is too much for me :mfr_lol:

I always say "Never put off screwing something up until tomorrow when you can screw it up today".
Needless to say I never say that at work. :innocent:
Now quit screwin' around and go buy a motorbike. :biker3:
Even a C50 :scooter: is better than walking/driving/bus/train/etc.
