Title: Warranty
Post by: ChrisB on August 16, 2012, 08:12:07 PM
I bought an extended warranty from these people last year for £180 and renewed it this year for £175. I have no idea what their service is like but I like the re-assurance of the warranty idea. A friend of mine bought one for his BMW 3 series car and has been pleased with it.
After completing the on line quote, I left it as I thought the initial quote of £300 was too much. A day or two later they rang me and I said they could have the sale for £150, and they offered £180, so if yoiu do want it, don't buy on line. Wait for them to call you,.

I shall be looking for an extended warranty in March '13 ... I thought that the price would be a standard set price whatever dealer you went to so long as the bike had a fully stamped up service book .. but I am sure someone  here has said it may vary from dealer to dealer ... any ideas ? Is this correct ? Is it easy to claim and are they honoured with a smile ? Oh ... and how much for a standard K warranty ?
I would be interested to hear from anyone who has been through the process ......

Rusty, I'm reliably informed that the cost is £350 and that it should be the same from all K dealerships.....however you might get lucky if you ring around.

I have started looking at exteded warrenty as the Kawasaki warrenty expires in September. The one on offer via Blade Kawasaki is £199 per year and I think it is with Warrenty Direct but would need to double check that.

At the moment I am not sure whether I will or won't take out a policy as the GTR seems to have a good reputation on engineering and build quality, as there doesn't appear to be any serious issues that crop up after 2 years or on the higer mileage bikes. If something should go wrong that it is covered by the warrenty ie not wear and tear then it will be worth the money.

Uhmm!!!!!!!!

I would and indeed intend to buy the Kawasaki extended warranty for £350 when its dues early next year. It just makes perfect sense.

The big question is, what is covered and will be paid by insurance companies like Warranty Direct?
If it is the same Kawasaki offers it's a no-brainer really.  :sleep1:

OC .... you consistently come up with good stuff on this forum and I congratulate you ! That's exactly the sort of article I wanted to read .... as Steve says " it makes perfect sense " .... I hope that my dealer with give me the option of a bit of haggling but will still go with the K warranty ... thank you everyone for your input.

Be very careful with aftermarket warranties, most do not like paying out when the proverbial hits the fan. Read the small print, some things are only covered for "manufacturing faults" and not for everyday breakdown.

I brought mine second hand from 'Wheels' in Peterborough (2011 model) and they offer a lifetime warranty as long as you get the bike serviced with them.  Like a few people have said you never know what you have got until you need to claim.  I have read some of the concerns about brakes and vibrations etc on this forum but at the moment mine is fine but I guess the majority with the no problems just don,t come on the forum and say every things fine with their bike?

Mine black and it's definitely a fast colour and howls like a banshee with the Two Brothers exhaust....

I like the warranty direct plan because it is transparent and easy to understand. It clearly state what is and what is not covered. Also from the outset you have the choice of repair via a dealer or via a non franchised workshop, but you cant pay non franchised warranty price and expect repairs at a dealer. Like I said a friend was pleased with his warranty claim so I bought one for the GTR. It's all about peace of mind just like any other form of insurance, and you don't realise the negatives until a claim is raised. Yoiu must read the small print, ALL OF IT, and if after you buy an insurance you have 14 days cooling off period in which to cancel at zero cost to you. READ THE SMALL PRINT, if you don't like it, don't buy it. Simples!
Debs, don't buy from their website, wait for them to call you and haggle. I paid £170 this year but have to have the bike serviced at a Kawasaki dealer, but it was MY choice.

By the look of it you have to (or they) define exactly which parts are covered in your policy and pay accordingly.
I don't know, but maybe the cheaper policies only cover the engine and nothing else.
The advantage is that they offer to include wear and tear while the factory warranty only covers material and manufacturing faults, the disadvantage is that if something else breaks even if it is due to poor material or manufacturing (i.e. warped disks or flaking paint) you're out of luck.
