Title: possible recall of bikes update
Post by: knightraider on August 10, 2012, 09:38:58 PM

possible recall of bikes

Reply from an earlier posting of the above title.

I used the contact number supplied, but is out of action. Rang Kawasaki Uk on 01628856750 customer services. They confirmed the recall and stated letters will be arriving in the next couple of weeks if your GTR is to be recalled. They confirmed over the phone that my GTR is due for recall. So rather waiting for the letter to arrive, i contacted the main dealers in my area to confirm with them the above. They are now ordering the part and will contact me when arrived to book in for the refit.

Hope that  this will help you to get the ball rolling rather than waiting for the letter to arrive.

Glen

- work was done today.

- result :

- somehow (maybe going mad) , the rear brakes seem to work better now , much smoother and better action from the pedal.

It is the subject of a manufacturer recall which takes around 20 mins to complete and is F.O.C

Could someone please tell me what this all about. We are not hearing anything about recalls down here ( which is not surprising anyway) but perhaps I could check my bike out and perhaps inform my dealer about it.

Right had mine done this afternoon at Colin Appleyards in Keighley. They even allowed me to watch and it does only take 15-20 minutes.

The last photo shows the rdundant parts, if your bike still has these parts you MAY need to contact Kawasaki. The fourth photo shows the shiny new part which apparantly is the fix.
The mechanic had done four GTR's today so by the time he got to mine he just sailed thriugh the work. There was a silver 07 plate one in the workshop when I arrived but while mine was getting fixed the owner returned and left, was that anyone on here?

Received my letter last Monday, phoned Robinsons of Rochdale on Tuesday, rode up on Saturday morning for 9.00am. Rode away at 9.45am job done. Thanks to Lee in parts department for organising everything and Justin for getting the job done, and of course the man with the spanners, who's name I did not get. Brilliant service all round and Lee did exactly what he said he would, no false promises just facts and getting the job done, all with a smile. Only downside was I could not work out how to operate the coffee machine in the showroom.

I found the same list on Kawasaki SA website that Debs posted here. Gave them a call to enquire whether or not they will inform customers whose bikes are affected. Response was "Give me your VIN and we will check"
In other words, if I had not called them, they would not have known whether or not my bike should be recalled !!! Absolutely amazing !!!!! What about those customers who do not check their website or who is not on this forum ?? They would not even know that there is a recall going on.

I can't understand why some customers with 'affected' machines haven't been informed. Its a computer generated proceedure by the manufacturer.

If you bike is within the parameters and you haven't received a recall letter you should contact Kawasaki IMMEDIATELY.

This is a safety related repair

Deon, did you buy your bike new? Sometimes if the first owner cant be bothered to reply to the recall notice because they have sold the bike it causes problems further down the line for the next owner. Just a thought.

I bought my bike from George Whites in Swindon last November and it has been serviced since at Premier Bikes in Didcot. Premier bikes accessed the Kawasaki system and could see where and when I bought my bike so not sure why I haven't received a recall letter. I rang Kawasaki UK and they verbally told me my bike was part of the recall by giving them my reg No.

Does seem strange to not have reveived a letter though.

I got mine in Sep from Premier Bikes, they called me yesterday to say they had the bit in from Mr K and booked me in for a week monday as i am away next week, i had the letter, might be worth giving them a call, Mark is the main man for that stuff.

I know this might seem obvious but, Mr K only has the details of the owner/address if your dealer has told them or you have sent off the little white ownership card in the service book. They don't have the details from DVLA.  Alternatively, your local Kawasaki dealer can input your details on their database to receive recall notifications etc.

Hay Alan,
Was it premier Bike in Didcot you got your bike from?
I called them yesterday to sort out getting the recall work done and they said they have now stopped 'doing' Kawasaki's so couldn't do the recall work.
I'm now looking for another bike shop to do my servicing in the future. Found Pegasus but they are very expensive.

I've registered my ownership of bike with K over 2 weeks ago and despite contacting them still not had the recall letter. The previous owner got one and I think this is what's delaying mine coming through. I will go direct to Exeter dealer next weekend if nothing comes soon. This is a safety issiue and I'm doing 400 miles a week.

You don't need the letter to have the recall done. All details of vehicles are held centrally.

Rusty, I got my dealer to endorse the letter that the work had been completed and then return the letter to me. This way I can keep the letter in my bike doc's folder and if I ever sell the bike I can prove to a potential purchaser that the safety upgrade has been done.

Yesterday I still had no recall letter despite re-registering the bike with K. So I rang dealer in Exeter and asked them to order the part and book it in. Its being done on the 15th September - quite content now.

Off thread but I'm nearly due a basic 3750mile service - how much do we all pay for this. Ive been quoted £175. This seems a bit steep but as its the first one Ive had done I'd like to know if the price is typical.

New bike, new look
Is it possibly from having to push the Beemer all the time?
Gym membership or a decent pair of running shoes would have been a lot less expensive.  :mfr_lol:

lol - I loved my GTR but the deal was so good on the GT it had to be done.  When we tested them last year I said (and it was printed!) the GT would be my next bike.  I had intended it to be in 2 years when the warranty expired having laid out for that but hey - ho!

The GTR does rule though - just that the Beemer is has a Kingdom, not a Principality  :mfr_lol:

Out of interest Chris is there a GT owners club/forum and is it as good as this one?

No,  :mfr_lol: I didn't mean it like that. I just wondered whether they were all a bit anal and clicky or deep down BMW GT owners were 'normal' like us lot. :whistling:

 :offtopic:..... :mfr_lol:

On the subject of the recall for rear brake rod, has anyone who has had the recall effected experienced the rear brake light sticking on

Mine was sticking continuously whilst in France this last week, and would only return back to 'normal' with a bit of persuasion from my right foot, it almost caused a mate to ride into the back of my bike

The rear brake light wasn't sticking before the recall and didn't seem to be improved by the use of some oil around the linkage. I'll be taking a look this weekend and may have to adjust the linkage

Its worth checking yours as this really is a potential safety hazard
