Title: Its time to come clean
Post by: O.C. on August 03, 2012, 08:03:35 PM
As I'm sure you all know by know I've got a couple of Kawasaki 1970s Triple two strokers, and I love them....BUT for quite a while I've had this itch (no not the prescriptive cream type) but an itch for a British bike circa 1950ish

Maybe its me, or have I passed the point of no return...it'll be weenie pads and a zimmer next   :ohplease:

But I reckon I've got to have one even if I hate it..I once had a W65 Kawasaki which looked like a 'Brit Iron' but it didn't break down often enough to properly qualify.

HELP  :mfr_lol:

Why not buy a Royal Enfield Bullet? The ride will be just as rough but at least you will have brakes that will work. Probably work out cheaper too.

Nah, they don't have the same personality, as I said I once had a Kawasaki W650 (previous post said W65 ) and even that didn't do the trick, it was too clinical.

Hi Viper,   you must be the same age (or a bit younger) as those are also my dream bikes from my youth. I would delete the lard arse Z1300 for a blue RD400 with alloys and Allspeeds

coman, i agree with you on the z1300, it is a lard arse, i like it for its engineering achievement and its grossness, it is the Godzilla of bikes, i could have substituted with a RD350 lc and gained kudos, but where ever it goes the z1300 atracts open mouths .

i left school in 81 and all the older lads where taking their tests and coming to the school gates with these bikes , thats how it starts.

I am decade-agnostic.
My top 5 classics would be;

84-86 Z1300/6 (already owned one and would love another. DFI model)
Van Veen OCR (rare £££££)
Vincent Black Prince (extremely rare ££££££££££££££££££)
Amazonas (yes, it's a BIG bike, but I'm a BIG bloke! Not sure if they were ever legal in the UK)
KX500 (1984 UniTrak/air-cooled model)

Hi again,

I left school in 76 which is why I have the RD 400 in my list, I never experienced the LC's as I had a (big)GS 550 when the LC's were popular

Well I'll have a go.. its a BSA Goldie (Gold Star) with a close ratio racing gearbox which I think was originally used on the 350cc bike, but I'm not sure, it had a very high first gear and consequently an appetite for clutches, the Amal is a bigger (Racing) carb and the bellmouth is a carb induction trumpet...There how did I do ?

I wont mention that the RRT2 gearbox had a reverse cam plate plunger...I researched that bit  :mfr_lol:

Any way Wiltsguy here's one I photographed at the Antrim show in Northern Ireland in 2009

DRIBBLE DRIBBLE BOY  :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

Ten out of ten OC.
Back in the 80's I found one in the back of a dealers warehouse in the desert in Nevada, still in a wooden crate wrapped up just as it left the Small Heath factory in 1960. Guy wanted $20,000 and I was poor back then.
Wonder what it's worth now.
