Was determined to have a look at routing cabling for the satnav mount and PTT button from bars to the rear of bike last Sunday so set about trying to remove the lower belly pan halves and the middle fairing panels. Bear in mind the manual i downloaded is for the older model I removed umpteen plastic quick rivets and 5 or 6 hex bolts I couldnt separate the lower from the middle and wasn't prepared to exert force.
Really embarrassing as the electrics side I'm brilliant at but could I remove the panels - nope. I had to ride back to work later so gave up. What am I missing - apart from know how?
once you have all the obvious plastic rivets and bolts removed the lower fairing ( the painted part ) does snugly clip together where the air vents are , it will seperate, just take it slow
I have just put a sat nav and PTT button on my bike, i had no need to remove the fairing, there are to ignition feeds on the left hand side behind the cubby box, take that out and the black panel with the rivits and you will see a large roud black shiny plastic cover, inside there are the two feeds you could use.
As for the PTT button i unded the black cover on the tank, left hand fairing allen bolts just below your knee, the one on the top of the tank and gently pull the top part out, there is a pin with a rubber bit it pops into, then you can feed the PTT cable through to the handlebar.
It is easy, confidence is the key.

Cheers guys. I wanted the lower off especially so I can get the headers cleaned and treat underside with AC50. Pretty embarrassing really. I'll have another go on Saturday.
Removing bodywork is always a bit worrying as it usually 'clips' together firmly
Sooooo, go slowly and dont apply too much force
Yeah - I wanted to get to know how easy access to the battery was. What a pullaver! Remove one bolt, expose the tab and pull the panel out of the rubber retainer. That was worrying first time. Then you have to remove that heavy metal plate ! I will be VERY careful regarding the fairings.
not aimed at this particular post but reminds me of a post i saw back on zzrbikes where some newbie was asking advice on how to find his spark plugs as he wanted to change them, hed' located the HT leads .... some senior member said , Dude , if we have to tell you what end of the ht lead goes to the spark plug then are you the best guy to be undertaking that task !
Viper- like it, but one question. As I had a triple previously does this mean I need to buy another plug? :mfr_lol:
