You had to pick and choose the gear you bought but my stuff lasted years. Shame the choice is reduced even further now. All those that said stuff was expensive hasn't visited the Touratech site recently. Busters, M&P and the like must be rubbing their hands. Oh well, I'll just have to save the pennies and get going to the NEC show again.

I wouldn't bother going to the NEC... tis mostly full of Asians selling dodged knock off shite.......  :hammer: .....

We saw leathers marked up a 'Alpin Stars' last year.... 'oh goody muesli bike leathers' ....stupid  :censored: at least learn to spell... thing is people were buying it!!!

I for one will be sad and wish all the staff well. I have bought lots of stuff over the years from Heine Gericke and never once had cause to complain. Thanks especially to the Manchester, Chester, Newcastle and Cheltenham branches where I have bought from over the years.
As for the crap made in god knows what part of Asia and sold at many stands at many shows and tracks I wouldn't buy it for push bike use.

Granted but there are diamonds amongst the sand. I never bought the obvious rubbish from the "indoor marketeers". Names with reputations to keep did show specials like Harris, Ohlins, Tektronic. I saved a fortune. I'm after a Remus Hexacone at present but wont pay £400 plus for one. maybe the London show will have more stuff to offer than Brum.

Best show by far for all your consumables, stainless stuff and good old nostalgia has to be the classic show at Shepton Mallet though.

the only surprising thing here is that they lasted so many years since the recession started to bite. apart from our helmets all our gear is from HG, so for us and many others it will be a sad loss, It will definately leave a hole in the bike gear market, ive no idea where we would now go for quality gear and be able to try it on.

Im guessing the uk division will be part of a buy out with a % of the uk portfollio being saved, but the new HG will probably end up sourcing a less quality product , HG gear was of legendary quality.

Last year I bought some pants and a jacket from HG and I love it but this year when I've called into HG, epecially the Bradford branch it has actually been embarrassing with some of the efforts the staff have gone to, to get you to buy anything.
As for who will I use now, I will use Infinity Motorcycles at York. Or Get Geared in Leeds who are situated next to the Leeds branch of HG.

I'd better cash in my loyalty card from HG asap.  :whistling:

What a sad sad day to see HG going down as yet another victim of the recession, however I think we all saw the writing on the wall some time ago

I've used their equipment for donkeys years, and preferred to visit the Preston branch where I ALWAYS got great service and top quality gear.

Other manufacturers equipment is available, but its not always as accessible as the HG shop, which basically was a "one stop shop"

HG never stocked anything outside of the usual mainstream sizes.
Never been of any use to me at all what with my 6'4", 60" belly, 48" waist, size 15UK/16US feet and I need XXXXL gloves.

Only things they had that fitted me were helmets (I'm only a medium 57/58 <LOL>) but their prices were too high.
I tried the Shark Evoline 2 at HG in Braintree and liked it.
Was priced at £350 in a colour I didn't want. I asked and they couldn't get the colour I wanted.
Found it online in the colour I did want for £299 Inc VAT & Delivery.
Found it at the Excel Bike Show in the colour I did want for £220 Inc VAT. Bought that one.

I feel for those whose jobs are at risk, but it's nothing new during the last 3 years.
I spent 18 months effectively unemployed and will be paying for it for the next 10 years.

No surprise to us down in Essex either. We've been predicting HG to follow George White for about 6 months now. Walked around the Ilford and Braintree shops in recent times and walked out again.

Nothing that really made sense to buy....

I had an email this evening from HG informing me that they are in administration. Supposedly now they have a sale on and everything is going cheap and has to be sold. No change there then!

Just been to Hein Gerike in Manchester.  It's only a small store and discounts on everything range from 10-30%.  Got some Oxford clear protective film that should have been 24.99 for 13.99.  Didn't see and panier or top box bags though.  The staff were saying that it might be taken over by another company, didn't say who though.

If you're looking for a decent helmet or clothing get down to your local asap.  It was quite busy.

I went down to the Leeds branch of HG this morning and to be honest I was quite disappointed. Nothing particuarly spectacular in stock, not even any HG inner bags for the panniers.  :nono:

Plenty of customers but nothing that took my eye......so I popped next door to Get Geared and spent my money in there instead.

A guy called Roger who has previously worked at Leeds and Bradford HG now works next door to the Leeds branch of HG at Get Geared. He's probably been there about a year now. Spoke to him a few days ago and he confirmed that before HG announced their administration and 'sale' they did indeed increase their prices first.

Very underhand.  :nono:

Went to Manchester branch Friday afternoon, never seen so much stock before, and I have been a regular visitor for more than 5 years. Prices you pay are all much more than the pre administration prices, dis-regarding the prices shown in the catalogue. I went for a helmet which was more expensive on Friday than it was 3 weeks ago. It's not HG's fault, it's the administrators who dictate the rules from the point of being engaged to the point of a new owner taking over. It's perfectly legal but not nice.

Manchester branch well stocked?

Hull was almost empty - could order 20% off stuff but were charging £5 P&P :surrender:

Administrators I know, but it would seem the bigger stores will stock more over the smaller ones.  I suppose if a new buyer comes in the bigger profit at the large stores in admin will mean they are the ones that remain with a sell off and redundancy of smaller stores in less economically viable areas of the UK

Some HG stores used top run as a 'partnership' basis and this may have some bearing on the current close down pricing policies

My planned ride out with 100 miles away got off to a bad start, as I was delayed leaving home which meant that he and the other Pink Armband crew would have set off.  :oops:sorry Geoff.

So, no to be deterred I decided to go to Hein Gerricke in Preston to sample some of the 50% reductions that they keep e-mailing me about..alas there wasn't owt that I wanted or needed apart from a bike tie down strap which they tried to charge me full price for, but eventually they 'saw reason',

On my way home I got what can only be described as a bloody soaking  :censored: good job I have quality H.G clothing which kept me dry  :mfr_lol:

Apparently some sort of announcement about H.Gs future could be made next week.

Ah yes Rog , we were wondering where you had got to. We went up past your gaf en-route to the Bluebird cafe at Coniston, a good ride out in good weather.               BUT              When we came out the weather had   erm  taken a turn for the worst, undetered we rode back to the bridge and had a bit of a chin wag for an hour or three. And then it was home time, and my journey back to Leyburn was a classic example of what the british weather can throw at us. If they ever re-write the bible this journey will be in it, 42 miles of the most diabolical conditions you could ever imagine, torrential rain, flooded roads, gravel, silt, stones washed onto the road from all the side turnings, and tracks. Thank the lord for Goretex kit. Off course I am sat writing this at 8 bells and we have a clear blue sky, and a lovely evening outside  Ah well .

Roger I got up early so that I could wash all the  :shit: off from yesterday, but as you say it was the same in the Dales as it was in the Lakes. Instead I toddled off to the hospital to have an x-ray on my poorly big toe, and low and behold when we got home at lunch time we had blazing sun, which I guess you got on your way home. Let us know what they did to the bike!. That will be after you have washed it of course

Well the journey down was miserable with the highest temperature reaching the dizzy heights of 12c it was heavy drizzle all the way to the dealership and by the time I got there he said f**kin hell I didn't think you'de bother coming down  in that weather, made me a brew and found a choccy bisciut , which was a nice touch

I had the bikes first service completed and the brake rod recall completed

Plus I managed to forget to pick up all the paperwork that I'd carefully put into a folder and even more carefully left on the dining room table, what a pillock  :mfr_lol:

The total bill including engine and final drive oil change came to £198.00 which I felt was ok.

The journey home was much better and the sun shone on mty rightous bonce all the way home, a brew break was taken at Devils Bridge, and I got home at 3.45pm

No I didn't Geoff, I rang them first and they said that they had a 3 week lead time which wasn't any use to me, so I took the bike to Kawasaki Autorama (Padgetts) in Batley. I know this dealer from many many moons ago and have bought a few bikes off him in the past so it was good to catch up.

It was a much lomger journey though at 230 ish miles round trip

Is the market for bike gear really big enough to support a nationwide chain of stores? I,ve been in to HG several times since they opened a branch opposite DK Motorcycles (a bit cheeky I thought). Never bought anything though. The stuff looks fair quality but the styling is pretty dull IMO. Then you look at the price and it's always more than you think it will be.

I started buying Rev-It gear several years ago and have been impressed. Good quality, excellent features, great style and good value. So far it still looks good and nothing has fallen apart. I have a summer jacket and trousers that are some 7 years old now.
