Title: Fitting a sidecar to a GTR
Post by: duncstours on July 30, 2012, 05:36:20 PM
I am planning to return to the world of bikes after a 46year break! I seek a shaft driven , comfortable, multicylinder, well protected ( fairing/screen) bike and no doubt a number will agree that a GTR fits the bill so far. I have yet to decide between the EZS rally or a Watsonian GL 700 but has anyone used the Kawasaki for an outfit? Yes I know it was designed as a solo sports tourer  OK!  Cheers

:185: duncstours, that's a first for me as I've not heard of anyone fitting a sidecar to the GTR, I cant see any reason why it isn't achievable and that the bike should be very capable of handling a sidecar, I beleive its been done using a GTR 1000.

Good luck with your enquiries, there may well be another member on here who can advise better than me

I've had a quick look at the Watsonian site and they don't appear to offer a mounting kit for the GTR, whereas the EZS seems to be a more stylish (my opinion) sidecar and may well have an option for fitment

BTW where abouts are you located ?

Hi Olde Coney

Many thanks for taking the time to reply - comments appreciated.  PL13 2JS is my postcode for 6 months ( UK summer ) and then summer again in NZ!

I've never seen a GTR with a side car but a while back there was someone selling a GTR trike.

Oh and welcome to the forum.

Something similar but of course attached on the near side so no need to swap exhaust around! Not certain about front forks yet but read "leading links" are prefered. Also have yet to purchase my next bike and many thanks for the welcome to the forum.

Well as it happens I am planning a UK tour for the RNLI in the summer of 2014 and will encourage local bikers to tag along on one/some of my day trips as I progress round the country from St.Mary's IoS up the east coast as far as Lerwick and then down the west coast including, Stornaway, Skye, Mull, Arran and of course a hoon round the TT course, Angelesey, South Wales and home to Cornwall. I will publish the details in due course and would welcome support for the RNLI as I travel round. Equally I will respond to the charity efforts of others in the future on my three wheels.  Cheers.

sounds great and all for a very good cause.

Your West coast return journey doesn't mention the stunning Lake District, where if you do visit, you will be made very welcome, I might even ride along for a while

The nearest legs of my tour to the Lake District are Stranraer to Workington and then Workington to Lytham St.Annes.  Do you think for one minute I would neglect to pass some time by Wastwater opposite the screes and then the scenic route to Ambleside on my way down to the Fylde?  You and others would be most welcome. Its a long way off yet but I am working on the rideout routes, publicity and communications.  Cheers
