WOW !....that was awesome...even the Queen was involved, and great to see so much emphasis on youth, Music, NHS..... it was terrific and shows just what makes Britain GREAT ....... shame about McCartney at the end thougfh..I reckon its about time he hung his boots up :mfr_lol:
Its a big investment which hopefully will be more than rewarded/recovered, and a once derelict area of london will now be revitalised.
Bring on the games...I love it
Sorry ....I have to disagree.... what a load of Socialist, left wing bollox.... the only thing missing was a celebration of Benifit Culture and Bing drinking.....
It was like watching a fancy dress disco, there was no 'Big Spectical' ...and wtf was the whole thing with the big glowing sperm in the middle. ...
We have some of the best dance groups and choreographers in the world....so how come it all looked like a school play!!
£27 million that lot cost.... I wonder how many more sports clubs, after school clubs and hospis's have been sacrificed just so Lord Coe and his corperate cronies can stroke each others cocks... :hammer:
Oh and I noticed that Brad Wiggins wasn't allowed to wear his 'proper' yellow jersey because of branding issues ffs! .... it looked like one that been hastily brought from Halfords!!
you need to lie down Mogs :ohplease:
Mogs ... you need to go and lay down on your bed, close your eyes and breath deeply and slowly and think of nice things like GTR's and tyres and going fast ... then a smile will appear on that angry face of yours and you will come around feeling soothed and calm .... :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

:agree: I'm supposed to be one of the grumpy old buggers on here :mfr_lol:
I thought the show was fantastic.. Lots of humour too... :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
I did cringe at the end when Macca sang... Oh dear what a let down he was.. Defo showing his age and time to sit back in a comfy chair and just watch.. :mfr_lol:
No see... I am a moaning git when it comes to the Olympics.... :gun_bandana:
being in the Health and Fitness industry, i have seen first hand soooo much money being diverted from proper ground roots sports programmes to fund this usless pile of shite.
It rarely gets reported 'cept in the Fitness press, but last year there were 120 youth sports programmes shut down, in London, due to lack of money...
Lord Coe and his mob are always talking of 'Legacy' but that was mostly ruined before it started.... yeah sure there are many kids who are going to be inspired to do sports after this, the trouble is there will be no where for them to do it.
Take the Vellodrom in north London that Brad Wiggins trained on when he was a kid, it is in danger of being shut down and re-developed into posh houses.... yeah fookin great Legacy that.
I deal with Obese teenagers on a professional level, i don't get paid to hold the session that i take, as the council no longer has the money to fund them...... so a few of us PT's do it fer nought.....
I have a fit and healthy teenage Daughter, so I know how important it is fer her to 'Fit in'..... trust me when I say that dealing with Obesity in a teenage girl is heartbreaking... it's a hard road for them to get anywhere close to feeling good about themselfs.
So when you are watching the Billions that have been spent on the Olympics flow into the pockets of Lord Coe and his mates, maybe just give a thought for what has been lost, who has been left behind, and the impact it will have on London for the next 10 years whilst they pay for it.
Mogs
Well put Mogs. It's hardly anything to do with the fastest, strongest, highest etc. you could hear it in Coe's intro, it's mostly (not totally) to do with corporate investment, political diversity and spending more money on the previous games' opening ceremony. Beijing was pretty spectacular, wonder how much that cost? Last night was a good show (notwithstanding Macca) but so was Pink in concert last year!
well we are all entitled to an opinion,
Yours isn't the same as mine mogs...but that what lifes all about, sometimes agreeing to disagree
I shall enjoy watching the worlds greatest athletes performing and I'll be rooting for team GB.

Yup so will I 'cept I will be cheering on the GB Para-Olympic team... now that's a group of dedicated and inspirational people. :punk:
I will be enjoying watching the Olympics.
I don't agree with the commercialisation of it all. That really stinks, considering its mainly tax payer funded.
London gets the investment, we all pay for it. I will be surprised if the Olympics turn a profit. No doubt the figures will be massaged to show what a great investment it really was.
As for grass roots sport, I am with Mogster on this. We just seem to have the wrong priorities in this country. Probably cause its run by a bunch of :censored:
Well we are different and that's good otherwise this world would be a boring place indeed.
Come on Team GB !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :mfr_lol:
I agree with mogs totally, the opening ceremony was not that good, too many slapping each others backs, and for the first day today wheres the crowds !! -- shamefull, lord coe what a tosser, along with ass licking boris. I am in the food industry and we supply the olympic village ( through an agent) all varieties of products, but we can't supply chips!!! because Mc Donalds are a major sponsor they can only supply chips in the village, i really does come down to corporate decisions, look at the torch bearers i believe it should have been done by the chosen local people no celebrities should have been allowed. Lets hope this olympics does not make us a laughing stock for the world.

Mogs, you are my hero. Couldn't agree more with your comments, a mega waste of millions of pounds. Lots of noise, banging, crashing, flashing lights, fireworks. Each olympics trying to out do the last one with an opening show bigger and better than the time before. I wonder how many millionaires have been created by feeding people this shite. :taz:
The NHS is the best thing socialism ever delivered.
The welfare state was supposed to support people, not be a way of life.
We've now gone too far the other way and see the excess of greed and capitalism.
The Olympics being one of the better examples. Ironic to see empty seats for the corporate hospitality.
Anyway, back to the Olympics. When will we win our first gold?
I initiated this post.........and I have decided not to post what I think in reply to the responses !
A simple " I'm not in favour of this type of event" would have been sufficient from those who aren't supporting the event
FFS Lets get back to some level of normality
I'm watching Olympics now. Love it.
Just object to how the funds are arranged and managed.

i watched it and thought it was Fandabbydosey, im sure the different country members just went round and round and just changed their blasers and flags and changed the name to Randomstan or somewhereuneverheardofstan.
Seriously , getting a prominent film maker was a master stroke, very british , a nod to our unsung heroes, could anyone here have done any better ??

Brad Wiggins Interview last night..... he was a tad pissed...classic!!
Sad reading!
England can surely be proud of the Olympics. Considering the size of that event, so I actually think that England are doing well! End of story ...
Enjoy the Olympics and be happy...
Oh I am enjoying it.. athletics due soon
As mosegaard said " sad reading" , .... why do folk have to put good ol blighty down for what ever we do........... i for one paid a visit to the games on Tue and had an absolutley fantastic time, the village is outstanding, the atmosphere electric, and the rivery friendly. struck lucky with seats 2nd row from front at score board end in the aquatic centre, even got my mug on the big screen when guy next to me was interviewed and considering i forgot to take the camera and had to make do with phone i think the pics turned out ok. :smartass:
Bloody Hell Steve, they are great photos, thanks for sharing, and I'm sooooooo jealous, I really should have made the effort to go
My armchair is getting some stick with all the TV viewing I'm doing :mfr_lol:
Thanks Steve ... they are great photos  .. something that you are never going to forget .. my sister was there last week to see "The Boys" at the Gymnastics and said everything was very slick and she had an amazing time.

Just to wind up those who hate the corporate side of The Olympics and the money makers .... I was at Horse Guards last night chatting to a lady who assists in running the entertainment side of things ... as you know you can't take in any food or drink to any venue .. yes you have to buy it there on site thus maximising their profits .... a burger in a roll £9, a small bar of Choccy £1.50, 500ml bottle of water £3.00... now get this ... The Champagne Tent .. taking £35,000 a DAY and the beer tent ? .... a staggering £85,000 a DAY !
That is massive !
"And as the weather is staying warm and sunny expect the sales to go up" she said with a smile and trotted off into the crowd .............

Thats not entirely correct about not being able to take food etc in , true you cant take liquids in but you can take empty bottles in and water is provided FREE of charge for you to fill up inside also you are allowed to take as much food as you wish ( as i did) ....... now for the prices inside the olympice village . yes :agree: they are expensive but no more so than any other type of sporting event or even the bigger bike rallies, ...... fish and chips were £8.50 , pasties were £5 , 2 piece fried chicken with coleslaw £6.50 .

yup well done Team GB...............................
Mind you the football team still couldn't win a penalty shoot out..... fookin bunch of over-paid nancy gay boys!! :hammer:
You'd think by now we'd be expert at taking penalties. I don't know what that last penalty taker was thinking.
Anyway, thought I'd checkout what athletic facilities were on offer locally. Not even worth mentioning. It really seems a lottery as to what you get.
My eldest will be going to the boxing gym anyway. Next heavyweight champion in the making. Just gotta stop him whinging :mfr_lol:
Routing for Murray today and then glued to the telly for 100m.
I might even get off my lazy ass and get back into training. At one point I was going to become a part time spinning instructor (just to keep in shape)
