Title: Autocom mounting location
Post by: chauffeurman411 on July 27, 2012, 10:11:41 AM
Hi all, i have just joined the group as i collected my 2010 bike yesterday and rode it 397 miles home from Hamel hamstead to Edinburgh, long trip om a new bike.

My question is where have other menbers mounted their Autocom unit, as there looks like no space under the rear seat area for it

Thanks in advance for your replies

Steve

once you start digging into that under seat area , you will be surprised how much space there is, my autocom is placed behind the tool kit box infront of the light cluster.

The black box thing that is next to the rear brake resevoir , there is space above this, ive got my fuseblock attached to the top of that and the seat still clears no problem

I have removed my toolkit and have the autocom sat in the toolbox. The toolkit is pretty useless anyways.

Steve hi and welcome to the forum. You dont say which Autocom model you have but the pictures below may give you some guidance. Three different positions for two different models of autocom. Personally I found the Logic 1 worked best between both models of autocom and it worked effortlessly with absolutely no interference in the empty toolbox. For some reason no matter where I placed the Super Pro utocom system I always had a slight buzz which nobody could solve which is wehy I switched to the Logic 1 system.

Hi guys, thanks for your replies, the autocom I have is the super auto pro which I have taken other peoples advice and located it in the tool box holder, tools moved to side pannier.

I have also just wired my Garmin Zumo 660 using Kawaski sat nav holder, it's fits well easy to use with the autocom, the only issue is the phone audio problem using these 2 together that both company's blame each other for the low speach problems with any mobile phone.

Thanks againg for all comments and my vote for 2013 is Dorset

Chauffeurman, did you get the autocom all connected up, is there any interference on that model of autocom with it positioned in the toolbox? As I've mentioned above  I couldn't get rid of an annoying buzz in that location.

Hi yes I have it all secured in the tool box with power from the rear accessory power outlet for both autocom & garmin on same power source.

I have a autocom cable number 4066 which filters out static between the 2 units, this might be your problem and not the location of the autocom unit.

I hope this helps, steve

Yep I also had some sort of supressor to cut out electrical interference, probably the same part as you have but would it buggery solve the buzzing.

Hi Lonewolf, i got a helmet from a friend which had the autocom headset installed, and got the same buzzing sound you have spoke about, not more bees !

I changed over the link cable from the Autocom unit to the helmet as it was cutting out my phone calls, and the bbuzzing has gone, so i would try changing all your cables to ensure its not coming from a falty cable, it could be the one from the Autocom unit itsself, which can be changed as its a multi plug connector insude the unit.

Hope this might fix your problem.

Steve

Steve thanks for the advice however I got rid of my autocom system when I changed the bike over earlier this year. I couldn't be bothered installing it all on the new GTR. Might eventually get another but not at the moment.
