Title: Alarmed Disc Locks
Post by: tommytool on July 26, 2012, 12:12:00 AM
Anyone have an opinion of the Xena XX15 alarm disc lock. Reviews seem positive but there's no substitute for the real world view. I can't use a ground anchor and need something which will activate an alarm if bike is tampered with at all.
This in conjunction with an abus granit 37/60 for the rear wheel and a magnum chain I already have will make me happier.
If not the Xena is there any other alarmed lock worth looking at. (insurance approved is preferable).

I don't know about the Zena, but some years ago I purchased one of these

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Oxford-Boss-Alarm-Alarmed-Security-Disc-Lock-14-mm-pin-New-Thatcham-Approved-/221000041344?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3374a10380

Which I use in conjunction with an Oxford heavy duty chain, when travelling away from home and when the bike has to be left outside.

It makes a helluva racket if tampered with when its set

i think the noise and its ability not to be suppressed is important. the emitter is on the inside face so hard to mask hopefully. with the abus granit and chain i reckon i should be ok. datatool is financially viable as we have cat 2 immobilisers from kawasaki anyway. ill have a scan around and after buying put down my opinion.

im a fan of disc locks in general, my friend had an r1 in his back yard with two thatcham ground anchors and chains and a cheap £20 disc lock. he went out in the morning to find both chains cut through, the ignition barrel ripped out, his iron gate off its hinges but the bike still there, the disc lock was a bit mangled up but had defeated the thiefs, mine has an alarm which is a bit annoying as you have just got to look at it to make it sound,

so yes , any disc lock is better than no disc lock, get your self one of those dayglo lanyard things to remind you its on.

already got one. oxford do em for a couple of quid. the abus 37/60 will go on rear disc and the alarmed lock on the front as that will be more prone to movement.

Chains, disc locks, padlocks, alarms etc, not for me I'm afraid. Too much fuss and grief.

I've experienced this system in action, http://www.crystalball.tv/#axzz21jkzYPpn (http://www.crystalball.tv/#axzz21jkzYPpn) significantly better than TRACKER which I think is outdated and on the whole unreliable.

Yes I think Tracker has had its day but we had some fun with it years ago when you had to "find" the car and then the fun began !!!!

CB has very good reviews and if I had an expensive car it would certainly be considered as an option.
