Hi All,
Just a quick question regarding the shaft drive on the GTR's. This is the first shaft drive bike I have ridden and I seem to get a bit of a jerk when I have been on a neutral throttle and go to accelearate.
I just wondered if it is the backlash being taken up in the shaft drive gears. I never experieinced this on chain driven bikes so wondered if this is normal?
Any comments appreciated.
ps Done 8k on the GTR since last Nov and still loving it.
the tetra shaft drive was designed to eliminate such problems that is not ossociated with chain drives.Tetra-Lever Suspension
The Tetra-Lever rear suspension is supported at four points on the left and right side and mounts to Kawasaki's unique Uni-Trak suspension system. This system almost completely eliminates the up/down movement associated with shaft drives during acceleration and deceleration, resulting in a very natural ride feel.
so know.. you should not have any jerks when accelerating or when changing gears, best take to the dealer and have it check out if still under warranty.
I must admit, mine does that fairly consistently when in ECO mode. (French spec bike, though so probably best not to take any notice. I don't use ECO mode anyway as it doesn't make any difference to the economy on my bike...)
In normal mode, never does it.
Ros
Maybe its just technique, gradual and gentle acceleration is all thats needed.
Nah - not on mine. There's a definite difference. If it's the same thing that Mattye is talking about, then you can twist as smoothly and as gently as you like and you still smack helmets with yer pillion...
Then there's something wrong.
I agree.
For my case, I assumed it was purely because of the French strangulation of the whole engine to 106BHP. As I don't ride it in ECO mode, I don't get the problem.
Maybe Mattye can tell us if he has this issue in normal mode and / or in ECO mode? And just to check that his bike is a full power model...

I agree, mine is smooth as silk in either mode.
It jerks your head back when you give it a handfull tho.
Alan
Hi all,
Thanks for the replies.
To answer some of the questions regarding technique etc i've tried to be very smooth with the throttle but it still seems to have the 'jerk' and it is also there when in eco mode however maybe slightly worse if anything.
If I put the bike on the centre stand there is about half an inch of rotation in the back wheel before it feels like the gearing engages. Perhaps some one else can have a look at there's and see if they have the same.
Thanks all.
The only "jerk" I get on mine is cause by the fuel injection delay.
This is where the engine goes from getting no fuel to some fuel.
Because of the emissions this can be a bit of a step on some machines.
I am told that it can be fixed with a Power Commander and removing the 'Flies but I just live with it.
Most fuel injected bikes suffer from it. Many are worse than the GTR.
mine is smoooooooth
Is your throttle correctly adjusted ?
Rog, we are on about his injectors, not your head. :mfr_lol: :whistling:
Olde coney - yes the throttle is adjusted as per the spec.
I think I'll give my local dealer a call and see if they can have a quick look to see if it's anything obvious.
Thanks all for the replies.

I've got a strangled french one and never had any hint of jerky throttle.....as for ECO mode never even tried it....only because I work in the oil industry and it would be bad for business... :devil2:
I get the odd minor stumble on mine every now and again, but as Boomer says above, it is definately the fuel injection at tiny throttle openings from a closed throttle. No shaft drive play/lash.
Most noticeable when the engine is cold, and coming back on the throttle after cruising on a shut throttle for a bit. Slowing for a right hand turning, then getting back on the throttle to take the turning for example.

In fact, that is a pretty good description of what mine does but only in eco mode. When you come back on the throttle slowly, it seems to give a small but surprising jerk...
It's not easily repeatable, as it only does it occasionally, so I'm not too concerned about it.
I'll see what happens when I get it unleashed once I have exported it...
ok my baby also had this problem, every morning after warming up she'd have throttle hesitation like opening up the throttle while moving off or slow speed throttling off, this would only happened during like the first 5mins of the initial ride, there after it just goes away smooth throttle response no gremlins lurking around...
so 1 fine day I decided to ride off without turning on ktrc, guess what smooth throttle all the way with no hesitation at all, so I tried riding with and without ktrc and it seems for me it's the ktrc that's causing the hesitations...
I doubt this would help the other riders in the cooler climate as I'm in the tropics region...anyway bike is fully stock no pc, flies still in there
hope it helps
Cheers!

Martin... you've described mine ..spot on
Sorry to resurrect an old thread but had anyone resolved this slight hesitation problem? I noticed it for a while and I would like to be rid of it. Mine a 2007, so with the traction gubbins. Serviced as per schedule etc and about 15K on the clock
