Title: Heated Grips
Post by: trousersnake01 on July 15, 2012, 11:18:36 PM
Chaps,  those of you that have the older bike,  what make of heated grips do you have.  I have crap set of Daytona grips with two settings,  red hot or barely enough.
My old Honda ones were really good.
So what have you as I'm looking to replace.
And what do the +2010 think of theirs and do Kawasaki supply them?

I've fitted Oxford Grips to about three bikes and all have been spot on.

Bracket fits neatly to left 'bar

hi mate, i put a set of symtec on mine, two small electric sticky pads that go under ya grips, you either order the rocker switch or a toggle switch,i think it was about £42.
fitted the rocker switch to the l/hand side top cover (where the kwak ones are fitted on the per plumbed bikes). nice n neat finish that blends in perfect with the colour of the fairing cover.
two settings,,,high and low,off is the middle setting.
works a treat although i think in the harsh winter it would not be so good, and as im a fine weather user only,,,,they are brill for me
oh,just to let you know i purchased them from a company called winding roads, east transaction and quick delivery. I was recommended these grips by a mate who does track days and he didnt want anything bulky like some of the oxford gear. also mate bought a set of carbon oxford heated grips,,these fit over your existing grips and you can take them off and on as required, these type are used for almost any bike, quad, and can be used on a few bikes that you own all you need is the wiring in place for each bike and just pulg in an your away!.
He said these are brill, even said that if he lived in the arctic hed buy a snow mobile and use um! lol

went out yesterday,on the way back it belted down,,fantastic bike, but,,,,,,when it rains heavy ya bloody fingers get soaked, ive seen these clear deflectors for the gtr but i think they look abit naff!!!!, as some of you know i do a bit of off roading and all the dirt bikes have hand guards,do as they say on the tin,,,protect ya hands in  a fall, stops ya levers getting broke also the end of ya bars are kept good,,,,
moysing about the garage this morning thinking,,,,a neat set of slim hand guards that some how bolts on the brake/clutch lever with a nice slim gtr logo in chrome,,,, just slim enough for the bars to freely move without anyobstruction,,,, now that would be nice
come on then,,,whats ya thoughts guys, and dolls????

Mr Snake, I have to agree I think the heated grips I had on my earlier GTR were Daytona Hot Grips. Dont get me wrong, they worked but were a bit naff in some resepcts. On the low setting, you couldn't really feelth eheat, on the high setting, they could actually burn your fingers.

The Oxford grips which Winston had on his GTR are very good, I have had them on an earlier bike, a CB1300. The standard fitted heated grips on the 2010 + GTR are very good but although you can buy them as an extra for the earlier bike, they are over £400. Not sure I would pay that for a mod for a GTR, I would suggest if your fingers are getting a bit nippy, buy some decent gloves. Rukka for example. I bought some Rukka gloves a few months ago and although I have the Kwak heated grips, I hardly use them as the gloves keep out the cold.

A couple of 2 litre milk cartons, fashioned to fit, cable tied to the bars would be just as aesthetically pleasing.

Roger, they have a matt 'dimpled' finish, almost satin looking.  Sprayed from the inside with a colour match paint the colour would come through the translucent plastic.  Perhaps even clever addition of a 'GTR' logo masking prior to painting would allow an attractive almost back lit effect?

from 4 different sets of grips ive used , the best ones were the oxford with a variable controller, much hotter than the daytona. The way you wire them in will also effect the heat they produce, best to run straight to the battery via a 30amp relay and have a very good earth straight to the bike  .

I use Oxford Hot Hands Over Grips.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/oxford-hot-hands-essetial-heated-over-grips-/180912671224?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2a1f3c49f8#ht_500wt_971

They wrap over the existing grips... Ok they only have on & off settings but I find them really good, plus if I change the bike I can take them with me

Guys, what type of Oxford Hot Grips have you got, there seems to be a couple of types, Ive noticed light which I thought was for mopeds and I also saw sports, can someone put a link from ebay up please so I can see what you have please.

I'm sure you want the sports type. The light ones are just for scooters and mopeds I think.

Oxford hot hands every time. 4years commuting and only now have they started to fray. They are really toasty as well. Buy on eBay now before winter arrives. I got mine brand new £40.00. Tried the GTRs grips last week. Not as warm but adequate.
