well would you "adam and eve it" I was polishing the gtr yesterday. and found hair line crack in the front mudgaurd from the very front tip right up the middle and is approx 2 inchs long. it's dam hard to see, I only noticed it because the white residue of the polish got in the crack! there is no damaged whats so ever to the front mudguard not even any stone chips. don't know how long this as been there for, but one thing is for sure..! it will only get worse as time goes on. this as most likely been a defect in the plastic from new, and over time with wind, vibration e.t.c it as started to split. I can't see kawasaki not replacing this under warranty, because there no damaged any where on the mudgaurd, infact the paint finish is perfect. so fingers crossed Mr kawasaki says
I have a new one in my shed if it's any use to you.
Sadly it's green.
Dont you mean 'Hair Line' :mfr_lol:

dam! wish I had bought a green one now, wash your mouth out with carbolic soap.. I hear the "wolf" muttering  I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch... but it's plain to see by the perfect paint condition of the mudgaurd this was not caused by anything striking it. I,ve already phoned Mr kawasaki who as told me to ask the dealer to take a few pics and submit the claim and they will look into replacing it under warranty. hopefully this will be resolved and a new mudgaurd fitted before my touring trip on the 3rd of august.
Big K are usually very quick at doing the warranty claims. I had a bodywork issue and the new panel was there within 3 or 4 days

I might be interested. Bloody disk lock - first the alarm goes off every time I turned my back but when I really needed it not a sound.
Fortunately I found all the bits and glued them back on, but a new one would sure look a lot better.

I use one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Motrax-Disc-Lock-Reminder-Cable-Forgetmenot-/251103213435?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3a76eaf77b#ht_500wt_1204 and as of today Ive never forgot to take the lock off :mfr_lol: One end on the lock, the other end is on a plastic ring that goes on the throttle.
Wilts .... there is nothing "sad" about it being GREEN ! :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

there the buggers! such a simple idea, yet.. it saves so much pain and in the worse case scenario a trip over the front end!

No - it's plain metal but it has a motion sensor and a piercing alarm goes off if you even look hard at it. Well, at least when you don't want it to it does. :surrender:
Luckily (maybe not) I was just pushing the bike backwards to get out of a parking spot and the moment I heard that crunching sound I stopped. But by then a good chunk had broken off already. If I would have ridden off forward the lock would have hit the brake and most likely it would have resulted in a fall and a lot more damage like warped disks  or worse.

too late to be tellinmg me that.....
In fact two times too late, it cost me a bloody fortune on both occasions
I hate disk locks for exactly that reason.
I watched a friend write off a nearly new ZZR1100 with a forgotten disk lock.
He was ok, but the bike was a mess.
Thank god for Fully Comp.
I use a shell/cable lock that lives in the topbox and locks through the rear wheel and over the saddle when in use.
As you climb into the saddle you get a lock in the jacksie which reminds you that it locked.
As for 2Kwacks receding Hair Line, if the line is straight and in the centre then it's probably where the 2 halves of the front mudguard are stuck together. If that is the case then definitely a warranty fix.
Boomer.. I do I,ve a receding hairline  but that's because I,m getting on now  however the gtr is only 19 months old, so still a pup.. but I've pointed out to Mr kawasaki that it may I've split along the seam/join, but they reckon there's no seam or join on the gtr mudguard. I have checked this by feeling underneath the gaurd and there seems to be no join, but when I get the half price replacement change over. I will be having a closer look, and if there is a seam/join in the mudguard Mr kawasaki will be coughing up the other half.. Ho'
Dave I had a good look at my front mudguard today and I cant see any line or crack. So to me that suggests that yours is defective. If it was a characteristic of the guard, then they'd all have them surely?

I'm confused now, the point kawasaki was making was there is no seem/join under the gaurd, so it dose not have a weak point. which suppose they have a point there! if I remove the gaurd and see a seam/join then this can be classed as a week point which may have caused it to split, if there is a seam/join then I will expect them to refund me the half I've paid.
Even if there were a 'seam' it would only be where the mould joined if that was the production method,
It wouldn't be weak at such a point as it wouldn't have been 'joined'.
It was always the urban myth that polycarbonate helmets were joined together and were weak on the seam. It was just where the mould split to get the full shell out.
I imagine the mudguard is injection moulded and comes out 'in one'
..I imagine the mudguard is injection moulded and comes out 'in one' this would appear to be the case due to be there being no join. if the split was to the side or off centre then I wouldn't of botherd even claiming a warranty replacement. it's just coincidental that the split is from the very tip and "dead" in the middel with no signs of damaged. whats baffling me is.. there's no stone damaged, the front wheel as never been removed, I'm the only one who rides and cleans the bike so I can't for the life of me think how this split as occurred. but suppose :shit: happens and under the circumstances I think kawasaki offering a 50% discount is fair enough.
:agree:
Still a shitter though.
A perfect straight line, exactly in the middle of the mudguard?
I think you will find that for that to happen, the mudguard is probably moulded in 2 halves which are then welded together.
This is common practice for many such parts as releasing complex shaped parts from injection moulds can be difficult.
In 2Kwacks case the weld didn't take and was probably held together by the paint.
The vibration of use has just caused the paint to weaken and the crack to show.
I can't say for certain until I see the mudguard but this is the most likely explanation.
