just through curiosity..! can any remember what mileage they got from the standard brigestone bt021 front tyre. the plan now means we could be covering approx 4,000 miles around france and italy in august. I,ve just replaced the rear with standard bt021, and the plan was to change as a pair when I return to the "much highly rated" pr3's  but the original front bt021 as done 4,000 miles to date. so I'm I expecting to much, to expect the front tyre to cover up to another 4,000 miles of average riding! it's approx 1mm from the wear marker and slightly starting to square off.
my front original bridgestone has now done 7600 miles and although it still has legal tread its an odd shape and not riding right. we always ride two up .
my rear went at 4500 from new and i changed to a pr3 and run different tyres front and rear which ive done many times and never had a problem, im now ready for my front pr3.
if my front had of been as bad as yours id probably changed both to pr3's ready for the trip, sounds like although your front tyre make legally last its goona be toast in terms of shape and grip and confidence before you get back
Dave, you need to clearly change that front tyre.
Change it !!! Why take the chance ? You're gonna have that "thought" in the back of your head all the time whether it will last or not and then not enjoy your trip !! Just change it and be assured.

If you want to enjoy riding those 4,000 miles then fit a pair of PR3s.
If you have to mix them then a front PR3 will work with a rear BT021 and it can't be any worse than with the front BT021 :shit:
Whilst in France ride D8 between Aubagne and Le Beausset (via Cuges Les Pins).
You can stop at the Circuit Paul Ricard and have a drink at the High Speed Club, then on to Le Beausset.
It's a great road with tight twisties and long straights, but don't push too hard as it's renowned locally as a killer of motorcyclists.
From there I'd recommend heading for Les Lecques harbour (St Cyr sur Mer) for some lunch/dinner.
Dave, just remember what the false economy on the tyre change led to!
Just changed front tyre on mine, I had done almost 8000 miles. I like the Metzler z8s.
I had a back tyre put on a year ago and have done about 7000 miles and have about 1000 left I would think. I do high mileage and tour each year to places like Denmark, Germany etc and have already done France this year. I have tried lots of different makes but like the Metzler.

asif I remember only to well  however.. I may I've under estimated the mileage that we will be covering, so just having seconds thoughts if the front tyre will see the trip through. will be taking my bike to the dealers in the morning about a possible warranty claim. will most likley now order a new front tyre to be fitted, which will be at the dealers of course..! will explain about the possible warranty claim under a new post
