Check your policy from your bank carefully, most only insure you for up to 125cc!

well not all insurance companies cover you while riding a motorcycle outside the uk with the benefits as when your in the uk. if you travel abroad on your bike and depending what insurance you have your coverd as in the uk, with certain exclusions if you inform them of the dates your away. most insurance companies give 30 days in any one year within europe. but you may not coverd for legal action taken against you if you cause the accident. if you cause a accident and the person was hospitalized they could take legal action against you to recover loss of wages, expenses, specialized medical costs, and any long term injuries. this could be a "unlimited amount" surely you have heard stories of people not having adequate insurance for there needs. in which case, I've heard of people needing to remortgage or even sell their homes to pay expenses, legal costs e.t.c also you may not be coverd for "repatriation costs"  i.e emergency specialized return home for medical reasons.

:agree: I have a mate that spent some considerable and expensive time in a Hospital in the US of A after dumping his hire Bike and having an open leg fracture and various other injuries, his crappy free insurance that he had via his Bank wouldn't cover him at all, and in the end he had to sell his car, bikes and re-morgage the house in order to pay for the treatment...  :censored:

America is normally exempt from the insurance provided by the bank. It's the same if you buy any other insurance. America is normally quoted for separately

Everybody knows that over there you're screwed if you have an accident or get sick and are not insured.  :whistling:
But weren't we talking about a trip to France here?  :hammer:
I have European Break-down cover, European coverage and Legal cover with my bike insurance (Carole Nash) as well as personal injury insurance - Medical costs in the EU are covered by the NHS (European Health Insurance Card) - so why would I need extra bike travel insurance if I go to another EU country?

mecki if you read the e11 form, you will see it limited at best. infact it recommends you take out adeqate insurance for your need's which will include dangerous sports, and riding motorbikes is classed as a dangerous sport. it's not expensive, £15.00 should get you adeqate cover for a 7/10 day trip, small price to pay if the worst should happen and for piece of mind.
I also I've full platinum break down cover which as full legal protection, but I will need to check excatly what it covers.

We use the Amex insurance, which will medi-vac us home should the worst happen....

Usually the basic insurance will cover you for basic healthcare, and if you think you are covered by the NHS in an EU country just wait untill sumit happens and you need to go to A an E... you WILL get a bill for emergency treatment, it's then up to try to claim it back.

I was on holiday in Corfu 4 years ago and had gone out cycling with a couple of blokes we had met at the hotel, now i'm fit but these buggers were on another level,
I did manage to keep up but in the evening started to suffer from 'Ectopic (irregular) heartbeat' which was caused by me losing too much fluid due to sweating me nads off, anyway a couple of hours on a drip and a heart-rate monitor and I was right as rain.

But on leaving the medical unit I had to pay for my treatment .... 650 euros.... fortunatly Smarty had already phoned the Amex emergency line and the whole cost had been pre approved,,, had it not, I would have had to fook about when i got home trying to claim it back from the NHS.

The point here is, just because you have a little plastic card with an EU number on it dosen't mean you are gonna get free health care in EU countries.

I would NEVER trust a Bank or Credit Card Company or anyone else with Bike Insurance for use abroad except your own Insurance Company or one that deals specifically with Motor Policies .... 30 day cover for EVERYTHING is never going to cost you more than £30 ?? .. £2.00 a day for most people if you are going for a standard 10 - 14 day trip. That is you covered for any eventuality regardless of blame ... One would have to be bonkers not to take it out  .

I'm going to respond directly to your question. On the mention of cancer you will be refused cover or quoted an excessive premium. My family, on cancer issues, go with ordinary cover where you are not required to disclose previous history. Remember, you may be asked 'has any insurer cancelled, declined or refused cover' and you need to avoid this scenario. You may be asked has anyone in your family had cancer in the last 5 years - answer truthfully and say no more. On the practical side, should you require medical treatment, it is highly unlikely to be cancer related and debilitating. In fact I pay an age premium twice as much as for a family of four - SAGA is not your friend!!

Correct Alan, (although I shall be having a word with you in the summer  :hammer:).  The thing is with this cancer issue.  They have you over a barrel. I am not going to die of cancer in June, it may be doing me in slowly BUT, it aint going to kill me this summer.  But if you don't disclose it, and something else happens to you, and they find out, you will be goosed. My good lady used to own a travel agents, and has lots of dealings with such things, and she says that they will insure me, but will have my trousers down in the process. :gun_bandana:  PS   Alan, are you venturing up to gods country this summer?.    I will be in Austria  from 16-30 june.  So dont come then, coz I have a plan

They will but won't cover you on a bike over 125cc. You have to have specific Motorcycle Travel Insurance, thats why I go with these.
