Title: MRA screen
Post by: trousersnake01 on July 01, 2012, 06:42:32 PM
Has anyone tried one of these?

I had a MRA screen on my CBF and it was fantastic for the noise factor.

forgive me for being pedantic, but they dont "slide on" they have to be fitted by drilling the screen in the correct position   .

The 'visor' variety which are reasonably effective have to be attached by means of drilling the screen

I do take your point about other variants and their fitment

Olde. I put one of these what you have photo's on my CBF and it made a massive difference.  However took a lot of prep work to get it square.

However since I did that four years ago they now have a clip on version that slips over the top of the screen and clamps up.
I'd like to see one before I buy as they are 90 notes.

If you have a look at the picture above you will notice that the hinges are slightly different .

I had MRA's on both my tigers -excellent construction and didnt "wobble" too much at cruising speed - not bad considering just 4 M4 screws fixing it to the nose fairing. I'm considering getting one for the GTR which I noticed on its first ride back home does "wobble" when in high position at cruising speeds. Is this to do with the obviously mobile fixing points or the fact that the new models screen is wider and therefore gets more buffetting?
I like the MRAs but at £132.00 to change its got to have a benefit and at 6'1" the MRA on the tiger with hindsight didnt provide that much more protection that the OEM screen. If I get one Ill let you know how it goes.

on my cbf. I bought a givi screen which was 4 " taller then stock.  I then bought the mra hinges from mra for 17 quid and cut a piece out of my old stock screen for the flip screen and it worked really well.

Ive got the MRA screen with the spoiler already attached, they now do a higher screen version than mine.
Went that way then i can revert back to stock when i sell or get fed up. There is an improvement over stock, hard to say how much with all these mods, sometimes you can convince yourself its the muts nuts when in fact is only slighly better or the same, depends on your riding mood

I had the higher screen fitted to mine but still suffered from buffeting, saw a lightly tinted MRA Vario screen on E-Bay, bid and won. It is much smaller but with the adjustable spoiler I was hoping to tune out the wind noise and pressure. It is no better than the large screen (if the MRA was clear I would transfer the spoiler to my larger screen). I am thinking about selling on the MRA and buying a clip-on spoiler. As stated previously, height, size, clothing and positioning all affect whether this will work for you, there is no one right solution

Its a bloody nightmare isnt it.

I think get the largest screen going then put it down if its to big and if its not put the flip up.

I would like to hear from anyone who has the XL screen and what they think.

I'm 6ft 3" and have always only had sportsbikes before now -  if I raise the stock shield all the way up, the wind just hits me full in the face  --- so I just ride with it all the way down - ( only exception is if its raining - then I raise it so the wind clears my visor better !)

- the little clip-on might do the job for motorway cruising for me (I wouldn't get one of the larger screens as I think they look crap and put too much pressure on the mounts ) - do they work ?   -  still seems expensive for a bit of plastic and a couple of brackets !!!!

MRA screen for 6ft 3" isn't going to work. I had one at 6ft and it needed to be 2" higher.

The Calsci XL is what you need

Yup me in Wickford, Essex.
Mine is the older XL (6" taller than the 2008 screen) so equivalent to the newer L (5.75" taller).
The new XL is 7.5" taller.
Unless yer over 6'4" or fit bar-risers you won't need the new XL.
Pics are on my website at
http://gtr1000.com/main/mygtrs.htm (http://gtr1000.com/main/mygtrs.htm)
Most of the top 1½ rows are with the OEM screen.
Starting with my Avatar pic they are the CalSci as is the top-right pic.
