In November 2011 i purchased my GTR. In March i went to Birmingham and had to be transported home by recovery, due to a stone going through my radiator. The bike had just done over 900 miles and 5 months old. I would like to know if anybody else has had this problem and how did you resolve the issue.
as a precaution i fitted a rad guard & fitted a fenda extenda as soon as i picked up the gtr, some people dont bother & seem to be able to get away with it,i'm not willing to take that chance.rad cover & fenda extender is alot cheaper than replacing the radiator.

i guess you were just un lucky , it can happen on any WC bike, stock fenders are whey too high in my opinion
It can and has happened to others on this forum, ma Rad guard or fenda extender is a way of avoiding this occurence.

:agree: Rad guard and fender extender are definitely the way to go.
I was amazed by the amount of debris I picked out of my radiator when I mounted my Beowulf rad guard some time ago.
Luckily none of those bits were big enough to cause any damage.
So it definitely is worth it and cheaper than a bust radiator. And they look good too.
I don't know about fender extenders and if it is worthwhile having one as well.
I find them quite ugly and it's not necessarily only debris thrown up by your own front wheel that may hit the radiator.

Hence the need to fit both.
i used some of the anodised mesh from b and q , shaped and clipped it to the rad by way of some small copper ties , been on 2 years now and does not have an adverse effect of cooling, and we were riding in 35 degrees yesterday
also comes in gold colour , does not tarnish £18

knightraider, welcome along to the forum. Halifax eh? I work in Halifax just off Pellon Lane but live over in Bradford. I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have as I know everyone else on here will too. Any issues send me a PM or email me through the link on my profile and I'll gladly pop over to help if I can.
As for your radiator issue, you have been most unfortunate with that. However £50 will get you a radiator guard which will prevent a repeat performance. Beowulf who are based in Halifax at Barkisland on Branch Road will sort you out with one. Ride your bike in, they will even fot it for you if you wish and then ride out.

Because they're ugly or because the debris may not come from your own front wheel?

Mr Wolf Regarding the new member Knightraider, I met him (Glen) at "The bikers breakfast" which is held on the last Saturday of the month March to October at Knowle green which is near Longridge, all are welcome, and they are a really friendly bunch. Anyway I told Glen about this forum, and he was really pleased to know that there was a forum dealing with our specific model. When I got home on Saturday he had already posted about his radiator mishap, but as yet he hasn't introduced himself. His bike is a green 011 and has a shiny new radiator, his wallet is brown, and empty. 700 sqid for the new rad :ohplease:. Anyhow lets hope that Glen officially joins us soon, as I'm sure he will benefit from all the help and info that is available.
