Ok, its long been established that I am a muppet when it comes to tinkering with the bike. ;D
But I cant help myself, I've just finished putting new coolant in and a new air filter. The fairing is back on and its looking very ridable once again.
So here's the question, why do I have a bolt left over???? :-[ ::)
I've stripped the fairing down again and had a second look to see if there is a hole where there should be a bolt. But is there buggary!!
There is a clue where the bolt should go but its not leaping out at me. It has nylon washer so it goes against a painted surface, but I'll be damned if I can see where it should screw in.
Does anyone recognise where this lives.........

Please help.....
Yes. its a fairing bolt and it looks like the one that goes near the battery cover. There is also one on the opposite side. Could also be the leg wind deflector. I think its the former though.
NB, which one? There is only one bolt which has a removable sleeve. The plastic battery cover is attached so no problems there. The bolt immediately above the battery cover is a long one with a black rubber washer so it isnt that one. The air defelector fins are attached so I'm stumped. I might need you to come over tomorrow and show me where it goes.
I'll take a look tomorrow morning at mine. I'm sure i've undone that one several times
The bolt which goes into the plastic cover over the battery is very similiar but does not have a removeable sleeve although it does have a fixed sleeve.
NB, did you discover anything?
This is as much fairing as I took off to do the coolant & air filter change.

Yes, I did
This is the location of the bolt

And the bolt itself

Which, minus the plastic washer, is the same as yours.
Can you check what bolt you have in that location? I think I know what's happened, but best to check that first in case I'm wrong.
I'll go and check now, well done that man.
Right, ;D as usual you are correct! Below is a photograph of the bolt I had in that position which obviously should not be there. Its a 4mm allen head bolt, so where does that one go??

If I had to hazard a guess, there is a spare bolt on the inside of the leg wind deflectors should you choose to ride with the leg wind deflectors off. Theres a holder for them behind the deflector. It's a guess but would explain why you have an extra bolt.
It sounds a good enough explanation to me. I'm going to take the full fairing off again this afternoon though and give it a thorough checking over just to be sure.
God help me when I come to do the brakes...... ;D
I'm always envious that your bike is always clean.
Mine looks like its been through a cow field
I like to keep it polished. :)
Its a fine day today, why not get out in the garden with a bucket and give it a spruce up?
Nah, time to play COD Zombies ;D
All back together again and gave it a bit of a clean as I reassembled it. ;D

The mystery of the spare bolt is solved. I was just laying down on the near side of the bike today tightening up the new oil filter and just out of the corner of my eye I saw there was a bolt missing on the lower section of body trim. I dont know why I took this bolt out because there was no need to do so to remove the fairing.

::) ::)
I know what them spare bolts are for....Ego retainer plates, for Black GTRs..... ;D
LW, how much do you charge for cleaning a bike? I'm going to bring mine over!
Reminds me of a few years ago when all my nephews were around. Thought I'd get them to clean the bike. The youngest thought it would be a good idea to clean with a brillo pad. Fortunately I got to him before he did too much damage but your could see faint scarring on the paint work.
Bring it over, I'll give it a wash for you. No brillo pads I promise. ;D
I am always amazed at how much you guys take your bike to bits ... It would always scare me that I would be left with bits that I could not put back ! Or have spare bits left !!! BUT at least you know where everything is .... oh and the cleaning possibilities are endless !!!!!!!!!!!! I like a good wash and wax .
