Title: Z1000SX
Post by: TRIGGERHAPPY on June 27, 2012, 08:20:24 PM
When I was in for my 7500 miles service I got to study and try to sit on the Z1000SX.
Didn't ride it because they didn't have any numberplates for trial in the shop that day.
I really liked the looks and the seating position, little bit to high footpegs.
It was so nible and easy to move about. Think the wind protection will be better than a hardcore R bike.
Does anybody have some experience with this bike?

A guy I know (Asif knows him too I think) Martin exchanged his GTR two years ago for one and loves to tour on it

I do like them and I would have one as a second bike for playing  :whistling:  around on, although it might get relegated to 3rd bike as the Triumph Tiger Explorer would be 2nd - I have the garage space for one but not the money for either of them at the moment but they are on my wish list.

Had one for a weekend test ride. Did not like it at all. Rough ride, handling not as good as the GTR but what got to me the most was that at 160 Km/h ( 100 miles per hour ) the engine was revving at 7 500 RPM in top gear. Feels like it needed 2 more gears to be honest. And the wind protection was not good. Got back on the GTR and knew that I had made the right choice.

Its great when people put some facts in a review, rather than " its crap" . knowing that it revs so high and has poor wind protection is enough to put me off, thanks

We had one for work last year.  I was very impressed with it. Taking out of the equation the GTR and other purpose built Euro-Tourers, it fits a certain niche.

It is a 'budget' tourer and 'budget' sports bike.

Yeah, I know it's not cheap, but it is a good jack of both trades offering relative comfort and reasonable weather protection for A and B roads, sufficient luggage space for a holiday and good enough to go playing on the roads of your chosen destination.

It isn't a Grand Tourer, it is a Sports Tourer, done to a budget but with K quality and a cracking engine.

If I was after a general bike for everything with a sports bias it would fit the bill.

It would require a day's test ride to make your mind up though!

Yeh I still have the SX, fully sorted now, riding position is good, standard seat is crap, (I have a sargent now which is great) mirrors need spacers, very agile and 100kgs lighter than the GTR, prtty much the same power output, done about 12K on now and still like it.
Oh and its the faster green model.

Hope all is well

Martin

Hi Roger

Yes would be good to meet up, pretty busy bike wise also the SX owners are on their third ride out this year on the 14th Sept, another good bunch of guys.
Funny you should mention the work  I decided I had had enough again, so tendered my resignation, having a couple of weeks off, then starting a proper job, in July, full time and everything  :help:
Seemed like a good idea at the time, had my usual run down to Spain in May and am busy planning next year, also looking at the Blue Ridge Mountain parkway, well maybe not all of it! just the southern end all being well.
Trouble is it may have to be a 'Hardly Ablesome' still better than a cage.
Don't forget if you are ever down this way drop me a line, and I will do like wise,
Cheers
Martin
