Hi folks,
I just wanted to make sure that those of you heading off to France this summer were aware of the new law obliging everyone to carry a breathalyzer!
This is another Sarko Special from before he was replaced...
Please see http://www.thelocal.fr/2725/20120301/ (http://www.thelocal.fr/2725/20120301/) for the full story......
Take care!
Ros
It will not be enforced until Nov 1st.

Hi guys
I live in France and yes you do have to have 2 breathalizer kits on your bike,if you are caught with out them its a 11 euro fine but this only happens after Nov 1st.
Most supermarkets and chemists stock them and I paid 1.30 euros.
As a foot note you will have to wear a high viz jacket from next January, whether the French take any notice of this is open to debate.

I was under the impression you need to wear a high viz jacket now in france..! I do have high viz strips on my R.S.T textile jacket, do you know excatly how much of this high viz material is required by law.
150 cm 2
Hi Viz doesn't come in until next year.
The amount amounts to no more than a fag packet collectively and can be in stripes. (I think the figure is 0.15sq/m)
It isn't hi viz day-glo either. It's reflective material - i.e. scotchlite which most kit is piped with anyway. The piping/stitching on most clothing will suffice. Needs to be between waist and shoulder - i.e. where it will be seen.
if you break down you and your pillion must wear high viz vest so you still should be carrying them and every car/bike i saw on the hard shoulder they were wearing them , what has been said about wearing the 150m2 patch from next year is true , i did post something last week that gives an exact list as to what is and what isnt law.
thanks for the info  my r.s.t textile jacket as the high viz yellow strips. is this exceptable or do you need the white reflective material, if you don't use a high viz vest.

sounds right
my understanding of the new law is a surface area on the upper body that totals 150 squared cm, thats the equivelent of a box thats approx 5 inch x 5 inch in old money
this satifys the french law
