Title: Greetings from Italia!
Post by: Ros on June 25, 2012, 10:19:26 AM
Hi folks,

I have moved to Italy last year after spending 12 years in France. This means that I have a frog spec GTR.... Yes, I know, but at least in Italy they don't have a stupid 100hp law for bikes. So soon, I'll get to excersise the demon and release all those extra horses that are owed to me!

Anyway, I live about 5km from the Monza GP circuit now and have been the proud owner of my GTR since it's birth in June 2010

It's standard apart from the stupid 100hp crap, an autocom under the seat and a Steibel Magnum to ward off Italian road hogs.

Just wanted to say Hi anyway :)

Ride safely

Ros

Benvenuti Arrosto Manzo,  :mfr_lol:

So, it's time to replace the intakes, cut the wire and if it's a 2010-, replace the CDI unit.
Sounds expensive. Wouldn't it be cheaper to sell yours in France and buy a standard one in Italy?
De-restriction is cheap for an 08/09 but replacing the CDI with an unrestricted one for the 2010 and later ones won't be cheap.
I found one on FleaBay for £150 (2008 model) but no idea if it will work with your French bike.

In fact, there's a guy at my local kwaki dealer who reckons he can reprogram the frog CDI....  He wants the bike for "a few days" when I'm "not using it" to have a go.

I'm currently debating whether or not to allow him to get his greasy paws on my trusty steed....  I'm not convinced that it's possible to reprogram it.

150 squids is not expensive!  I gather they're around 1000EUR new...

Does the CDI look after the keyfobs as well or is that a different box of tricks?  I guess I can't just swap it over... can I?

He's got a nice shiny set of beeeg intakes ready for me apparently...

Thanks for your reply!  :)

Thanks everyone!

Yes, that forum....  This one is... Err... FAR mor active :)  I only just found it this morning

And being English, I wouldn't know much about penalties either! I'd follow Coman's advice for that.  I did get a fair amount of stick at work today, it has to be said...  Also, I removed my 5' St Georges cross from the balcony...

Thanks for the warm welcome - I feel quite at home now!

Hi Rusty - yeah France has some great roads, that's for sure.  I have lived in Paris, Provence and the Alps, so a fairly decent tour.  More recently, between Grenoble and Chambéry.  There are some great roads in the mountains, but you still have to be careful because they repair them with this black strip which is as slippery as a   !!  (Incidentally, a similar black strip is used in Switzerland, but theirs don't seem to be as slippy for some reason.  Apparently, they use a different compound.
In the South, there are tonnes of great roads, through the Massif Centrale and down the Rhone Valley - all over the place.  Just a couple of weeks back I rode from Monza, here in Italy, all the way to the French coast via Grenoble, most of it on the Route Napoleon.  Excellent !

Sounds like you're on holiday, you lucky sod.  It's BLOODY hot over here at the moment - It should be really nice up in Cortina, but here it's sweltering!  The Dolomites are particularly spectacular - superb!

Cheers

Rich

They can be reprogrammed. There are a couple of Yank companies that are offering to derestrict the standard bikes to the full monty (secondary butterflies always open, rejig fueling for aftermarket silencer, etc) by reprogramming the ECU.
I believe that the fobs are handled by the KiPass module but that the ECU needs to be programmed to work with the KiPass module, or something like that.
Details are available on the US forums (cog-online and zggtr).

QuoteThey can be reprogrammed.

Now, that IS interesting !!

I might well just hand it over to them for a few days then!

Any idea what would happen if I get the inlets etc. sorted before I reprogram?

Moff to check out their forums!

Be sure to tell them that it's a French ECU and has the O2 sensors fitted.

Blimey !!  These guys are on a different planet!  Thanks for the link.

Is the O2 sensor a French thing or a 2010-11 model thing?

Next job, in order to do this all legally, I need to export it and get Italian 'plates on it.  Moff to research that...

Thanks :)

I hope no-one minds, but I changed my name from Rosbif to Ros, which is what I reply to anyway on most web stuff.  :whistling:

Rosbif, was a nickname that I used because that is what the French call English people, so I used that when I was living in France. It's no longer funny because I live in Italy now, so plain old Ros will do.

Cheers,

Ros
