Title: Doubting Thomases, in the corner please ! (Brake pads)
Post by: Essex Boy on June 23, 2012, 06:48:36 AM
Ladies, Gents I thought that this was important enough to start another thread rather than add to my earlier one, so that it doesn't get missed.
You may recall that at my first service at Colchester Kawasaki on 4,400 miles they said I needed new front pads and I questioned it. The Service department said "ok, we will put them up to Mr Kawasaki to see what he thinks".
Phone call yesterday from them...."Can't give you a refund of cash Sir, but come in and we will give you a voucher toward next service or any item you wish to buy".
TBH I didn't immediately say "How much for", my first thought was "Wait til they hear this on the forum".
A precedent ?, I am not sure....but Colchester Kawasaki gets a Gold Star from Essex Boy.

Now then, what shall I buy ?

Hopefully I don't/won't need discs. The GTR is the 2011 model which should mean the disc problem is cured...right ?

Erm!!!!!!!!!! Not so sure, last week I took mine  (011 Green) back to my supplying dealer (Motor cycle centre Orrell) with a problem that was very difficult to explain, I have a problem with the front brakes, but cant really make my mind up what that problem is. I have no juddering/shuddering as in warped discs, but I have a feeling through the front lever as if something mechanical is interrupting my pressure on the lever, It's as if the ABS is working, but at the pressure levels I am talking, ie slow steedy retardation of speed I cant believe that that is the case.Very strange really, and not something I have come across before. It would help if all those on here that are having front brake problems could ride each others bikes to establish if our problems are one of the same thing. Does anyone think it could be something related to the linked brakes?. Did this problem appear on the pre 010 models?. Anyway mine is having new discs fitted soon, so maybe I can judge better then

This is exactly the same problem that I had on mine.... tis a wierd mechanical 'clonking'  thing going on..with a shudder as well, it was most noticable at slower speeds.... and worse for a bit once ya had used the front brake hard.....
I never did get to the bottom of it either  and it was the same after the new discs and pads were fitted.  :rip:

Nothing like that on my 08.
Probably to do with the Linked Brakes.
Bloody stupid idea IMHO.
Designed for the incompetent.
ABS I have no problems with but I have yet to ride a bike with Linked Brakes that I considered safe.

I've never even switched mine onto linked brakes, as you say, I cant see the point. Especially for the way I ride.  :whistling:

Steve- You dont switch the linked brakes on, they are on all the time. The choice you get is how you prefer to spread the linking of the brakes out, and what kind of feel you recieve through the brake pedal.

Yeah thats what I meant. I think it says something in the manual about changing them to the maximum setting for high speed riding, or riding with a passenger etc. Something like that anyway.
