I have the Zumo 550 and I might be going mad but can anyone answer this question?
If you do not have a destination programmed into the unit what do you see on the display? I get a map of nearly all of Europe!!
If I program a destination in then I get a street by street zoomed in view which you would expect. I cant remember if without a destination programmed in it has always shown such a vast area or whether the settings have been altered.
I contacted Garmin yesterday and they claimed the 550 doesnt have a zoom feature for street level mapping during normal riding, I'm not convinced they are right.
If anyone has the 550 can they photograph the screen of the unit without a destination programmed in so I can see what is normal and what you are seeing?
Many thanks.
Hi
It sounds like the zoom settings are set to the extreme limits. Without a destination it should just show just the map of your location, if yours is showing the whole of Europe then it could be that you need to use the '+' either on the screen or the unit to zoom in. With a desitnation then you probably need to the reverse and zoom out using the '-' button.
Hope that helps
Steve
while in non destination mode i see this in the 3d mode and can zoom in and out as normal. Ive just done a software update and also 2013 maps from garmin, but it was like this before i did so

I know the above shot is taken inside, but even when riding that is what I see. Is there a major reset button? Can the zoom buttons be set to the extreme?, I thought if you zoomed in it automatically zoomed back out again after a few seconds.

Steve,I can see what yer problem is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It's F----D :smartass: :mfr_lol:
You could well be right. :mfr_lol:
A silly question but have you tried using the zoom buttons on the Garmin unit rather than those on the screen and does it change anything - even temporarily?
There is a reset facility but you will have to search the Garmin web site FAQ's on how to do it.
Kind regards
Steve
There are + & - buttons down the left hand side of the unit and there are + & - icons on the screen. Do they perform different functions? I have this evening zoomed completely in using the buttons on the left of the unit case, in theory it looks to have resolved the matter but whether it will revert to showing the world when I couple it to the bike and start moving.....I will only know the answer to that question tomorrow morning.
What I dont understand is how/why it changed in the first place.
Hi
The zoom buttons on the unit and on the screen perform exactly the same function. I have no idea what would have caused it but hopefully the solution was just as simple as the need to zoom in.
Kind regards
Steve
It's sorted! I've learnt that in order to amend the street view you need to do this while the unit is on the bike. That way it retains the personal settings. If you have the unit off the bike and zoom in, it then reverts to whatever setting it was on when it was on the bike.
I've no idea how it changed in the first place and it's concerning that garmin themselves claimed the unit couldn't zoom in to detailed street mapping when clearly it can.
