I know, I know, I know, there have been discussions about this many times before... I'm just after some specific information.
Are you approx 34, been riding approx 4 years, with a clean licence, 4 years no claims, own a fairly new GTR (approx 1 year old) with no modifications, keep it in a garage and ride your bike for commuting purposes maybe up to 8,000 miles a year? (that might even be too high now)
If so, who are you insured with? I've just had my renewal from Bennetts for just over £600! A quick quote on Carole Nash suggests around £350 (what a difference!). Interested to hear anyone in a similar position to me and who they are with.
I'm not lucky enough to be 34 so not in your position but, there are 2 major comparison websites; stick your details in them (it's a bit of a pain initially) and generally you'll get the best deal available. Obviously there are some brokers that don't want to subscribe to them. Once your details are in, you can in future, just click and search. Eg. next year.
I know many people swear by comparison sites or changing insurers every year & if they get a good deal best of luck to them. I have been with Carole Nash for many years as within a few pounds of others they have been the best for value, the service they provide & ease of changing cover from bike to bike. In my case you can add another 31 yrs to the age quoted but with the freedom to ride any place any time for £240 I recon is good value these days. Best of luck with getting a good deal

An update...
I don't think Bennetts want me any more; a new quote on their site actually gave a higher quote than my renewal. Otherwise £300 is the cheapest, but with no additional stuff (i.e. can't ride other bikes, no euro cover etc). I may well be switching back to Carole Nash (who I was with before Bennetts, but after my first year with Bennetts!).
All these companies we have to deal with are just brokers and live of commissions anyway.
And it's the same old scam every year.
They offer a good deal to attract new customers and try to rip off the existing ones.
For them it's just a numbers game.
As long as enough people can't be bothered to shop around and pay the renewal instead they still make more money than offering everybody the same deal. :censored: :asshole: s
I've just renewed my policy on 16th June with Adelaide in Northern Ireland and they are very competetive and undoubtedly the most professional and courteous insurance company I have ever come across.
Insurance is a viscous circle these days. We all want the cheapest with little care for service (let's face it, none of us think we will ever need to claim), so every company has to do big discounts to attract new customers.
Acquisition and retention costs are huge, which adds to all of our policies.
I really don't understand why insurance companies don't offer 3/4/5 year policies based on breeding loyalty. Would need break clauses if there was a claim mid term, but sounds do-able to me.
/Rant.
Martin.
In the end I've stayed with Bennetts. Turns out changing my annual mileage reduces the quote by almost half.
I came to the conclusion years ago that motor insurance is a scam,
How do they know what your annual mileage is anyway
compare sites, every time.
My Step Father [god rest his sole] used to work in Insurance...
The reason why there are big differences is because it is all down to claims. More customers who make a claim in a certain area with that company can dictate your costs.. I always use compare sites.. Last year I was with Devitt Insurance.. Just renewed through MCE Insurance... No no claims, been riding 20 years, clean licence, bike is 3 yrs old.. £280 + £80 for my £2k extras pushes it to £350... Im well happy with that...
Also..... If you dont declare all of your extras, then you are giving the Insurance company ammunition to wriggle out of paying should you need to make that unfortunate claim.
Try comparethemarket.com and you will get a Meerkat if you buy through them.. :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

I had to give them a figure as to how many miles I expected to do in the year. Previously I estimated 10k (actually would have done more this last year), now I've estimated 6k due to change of job and commute dropping from 110 miles a day to 10 miles a day. I'm hoping to still do a few thousand miles - just more miles for pleasure than getting to work. Even if I took the bike every day to work I should still only do around 2.5k miles in the year and I even plan to ride on two self powered wheels to work instead... so that figure will be even lower.
