Title: Flat rear tyre.
Post by: TRIGGERHAPPY on June 17, 2012, 08:55:25 PM
Out riding today, nice warm weather. Ended on a gravel road going over a small mountain ridge.
Just me and the bike and some sheeps lying i the road. Suddenly i've got a low pressure warning in the dash.
Not happy but no problem. Have a tyre patch set in the topbox. Stopped and got of the bike, then I remeber that the topbox are lying in my hallway...not on my bike. F... shite. Luckily I managed to reach a house before the tyre where Complitley flat.
The man in the house drove me for 30 min to the nearest gasstation so i could get some puncture foam.
Give the man a big hurray.
Not my favorite stuff but I just had to use it. Didn't quite seal the hole but just enough so I did reach all the gasstations on my way home. 156 miles and God knows how many stations.

Hope i never run flat again or does such stupid thing like forgetting the tyre patch set at home.

I don't have a tyre repair kit, but do have breakdown recovery (RAC).
Check your Tyre Pressure Sensor as the foam may have damaged it.
I've only had the one puncture on the 1400 and the TPS enabled me to crawl to the nearest tyre place.
Unfortunately they were useless feckers so ended up having to RAC it home.

Did fix the tyre today, and ordered a new one. Going to put on the new tyre before we go alpentouring.
Don't want to go down the autobahn with damaged tyre. if it had been a spike that mad the puncture
I may have used it. But the hole where quite big,had to use two of those rubber seals to fix it.
Reckon the cord in the tyres are cut of.
Now I  have a tyre to put on after the trip, reckon the rear tyre are gone when we return.

the tyre sensor has a very small hole in it to allow the air in , check this is not blocked by the tyre foam when you get the new tyre

Always annoying when you get a puncture ... even more so when you are not too close to home ! Glad it's all sorted.

Have beeing really busy at work lateley so i haven't got the time to put on a new rear tire or wash the bike properly.
Just did some quick and easy washing to keep the flies at a minimum and the dust of the paint. Have done a few late evening/night driving insted of washing.
Finaly i got some time today to do some work on my bike.
Changed the rear wheel first, but when I should put on the balance weight I could not remove some stuff that where on the left side of the rim. Discovered that the same stuff where on the hugger,on the side cover, the final drive, under the seat and on the left pannier (wheel side).
Did try a few different cleaning products but nothing did  the job. Managed to remove enough to put on the weight.
Did not understand what this could be.But suddenly I remembered that there where almost not puncture foam inside the the wheel I just did change. That i found a bit strange, but did not think more of that then.
Guess where that stuff had landed....out of the tire on to my bike.
The puncture where on the leftish sid of the tire,so when i was driving home the day I puncured the foam leaked out from the hole and on to the bike.
Does anybody have some idea of what I should use to remove this stuff?
It realy is stuck, had to use my nails to remove it so I could put on the balanse weight.

Sorry for a long post, but it is'n allways easy to explain things easy in a foreign language.

Tyre weld (or equivalent) is nasty to remove,
I don't think conventional cleaning products will get rid of it.

You may want to try some of the hard core oven cleaning products available. I've used these on stubborn stuff before and they do work. However, try on a little area first.

Edit: something like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0010W5LEM?ie=UTF8&force-full-site=1&ref_=aw_bottom_links

From reading the reviews I would go for that product. Looks like it will eat through anything!

Have not had the time to remove the goo from my bike, took my son on a short holiday trip, and today i got the new breakdics and pads from kawasaki. Did put on the new discs and pads this evening and have just finished packing for my alpen trip, starting tomorrow. Will try to remove the tire weld stuff during my trip. Will try to keep you posted.
