Title: Rear hugger--- squeaking!
Post by: doebag on June 09, 2012, 07:16:22 PM
Finally got aorund to fitting a rear hugger today, bought a Pyramid plastics one a few weeks ago.
Anyway, got it fitted and it squeaks. It is not rubbing on the tyre or anywhere else, but where the  mounting bolts hold the metal brackets to the plastic.
Even if I wiggle the hugger from side to side it squeaks. I have tried tightening the mounting bolts but no success.
Has anyone else had this problem ?
I am wondering whether to try rubber washers between the plastic and the metal bracket.

Is there a chance it could be rubbing on the undertray? That will cause it to squeak.

even with the bike on the centre stand and the suspension extended, I can get it to squeek by wiggling the hugger from side to side.
I think it is tiny movement between the metal bracket and the hugger making the noise, hence the thought of thin rubber shims to separate them.

when i fitted mine the bike was on the mainstand, after evertyhing was tightened up i pushed the bike off the stand to hear a creaking sound,if i put pressure on the rear of the bike the noise would reoccur,i then checked for clearance, from what i could see there was nothing rubbing, all i done to stop the noise was move the hugger on the bottom under the swing arm.it worked for me.i got a pal to bounce the rear of the bike while i made a minor adjustment.

Right, just give the rubber washers a go then and see if that resolves the problem.

Slim rubber of fibre washers could solve the problem

maybe a little squirt too

Fixed it!
Not the mounting bolts though. On the inner face of the drive shaft housing is a rubber bung/plug, just forward of the corrugated rubber boot. This was what the hugger was rubbing on. I took my trusty Dremel tool to the hugger, and carved away a bit at a time until there was enough clearance.
