Title: BLOODY ROE DEER....
Post by: TRIGGERHAPPY on May 27, 2012, 01:27:02 AM
Hi guys and gals. Long time since my last post on the forum. Have been really busy at work and lazy of  work.
Finaly the cold winter changed into really nice and warm atumn temps. Have had a few nice rides and enjoyed my
gtr. Did almost forget how good it is during the winter. But on thuesday evning just 2 miles from home after a 285 miles trip after work I chrased into a roe deer....and the gtr got pretty banged up. I'm ok,didn't feel a thing. Just pissed because the weather is fantasic and my bike isn't useable.
Upper fairing, left fairings, air intake, front fender, lover left fairing, radiator and cooling fans,
Thank good for insurance.
The parts got ordered friday,5-7 days delivery and another day r/r . Hope the time estimate holds.

Sorry to hear you've had an off.  Hopefully as you say the repair schedule will be stuck to and the bike will get fixed fairly rapidly.

And the outcome for the dear was?

Hello TH .. was going to say " Nice to hear from you " .. but with that news I am not so sure ! Sorry to hear of your crash .. that must be a shaky experience and of course the bike damage too. Hope you are ok and on the mend and the Gtr is repaired soon. Take care mate.

Thanks for all good thoughts.
I'm ok,it was no drama. I saw a movement on my left side and then i heard a crunchy sound and looked in the mirror and I saw the roe deer spinning in the air. Didn't notice anything on the bike or my self. Stopped and went back. Found the poor thing lying on the road,it was stone dead. So I just removed it from the road and in to the bushes so no one could see it.
And then I checked the gtr, rang the police and a man who is responsibe to remove or search for animals after they have been hit by traffic.
I could drive home but it leaks coolant from the radiator.
Talked to the insuranse company friday and got some good new. It will not cost me a "krone" penny.
My insuranse covers damage by animals for free as long as i have reported the accident to the police.
Made my day much better.

Damn, the GTR must be well built to come off better than the deer - glad to hear you are OK.

I hit one two years ago on my previous bike, bent the forks, destroyed lots of fairing, and the bl00dy deer just picked itself off the road and looked at me quizzically for running into it  :mfr_lol:

Sorry to hear this Zider.  I went through same thoughts or worse because it was my fault.  However, the guys here and my own depression at the thought of never riding again had me giving it a go.  I very pleased that I did despite not having regained the same level of confidence as before. Perhaps that's a good thing.  I will enrol for a AIM course when I (hopefully) get back from Berlin and Ovronnaz.

Surely 50, for many reasons, is the perfect riding age!  Listen to your friends here.

Funny that, my kids say the same thing about me. At 61 can't get my knee down due to arthritis but I certainly am an arse when conditions allow.  Just hang in there Ziderman I am sure the call will return if you give it time. Personnally cannot help having a great big cheesey grin everytime I fire up the GTR (daily as I use it to commute) and listen to it bubbling away through my Beowulf.

No no , all I have is lost her as a pillion...She was so freaked out by what happened while she was on back bike she wont get on it again at moment..Dont blame her. Not so sure I want to get back on bike. It was very very scarey & wakes me up still now.
We were cruising along A39 near Lynton. Long r hand bend. Open view , no high hedges. Seen 3 vehicles other op carriageway. Never expected low life to try & pass the cars in front of them on bend. They thought was all clear apparently...I am facing a car coming towards me on wrong side road....if that were not bad enough , I had to avoid two cyclist on my side. I had little option but to go into verge between two cyclists. She came off back as i hit verge. I slid all side ways as taught. Bike little damage. Me terrifeid , her in big shock . She has young kids , so got her bad. They caught the guy for causing accident. How we area both alive is behond me. But has made me think after 33 years may be time to pack it in.
Worst of it is despite my age , she was carying a baby...That had been shock for us. Thought we was all passed that. She aborted. See where I am coming from now.

And the roe deer aren't heavy. Thank God it didn't hit my leg or knee. The dent in the radiator is where the head of the roe deer hit.

I dunno bout that Trigger, they are probably about 50 Kg at least....that weight would be much more when hit at speed

It's caused some considerable damage to your bike... thankfully you weren't hurt

Thank you . Maybe a fully grown male can that heavy. But here around they rearly pass 35kg
The one i hit where small, 15-20kg maybe.
I know I was lucky, could have ended a lot worse.

It good that you can see things that way Ziderman, even through the gloom of things in your life right now

My late father used to say "But for the grace of god, there go I, there's allus someone worse off "...it seems to be a suitable expression when all around you feels really bad

TRIGGERHAPPY Glad you're OK and the GTR is healed up - must have given you a major fright and thankfully it wasn't a lot worse.

Ziderman I'm very sorry to read about what's happened, my thoughts are with you and Sandy - may you both find the strength to get through this incredibly sad time.

Kind regards to all our fellow riders out there - may we all stay safe.

Glad your bike is on the way back to full health.

If I were you, I would be keeping that damaged radiator as a spare. Our rads do seem to fail after a while, and replacements are only available from Kawa at monumental prices as far as I can see.

So yer gonna marry her in the New Year? Good!
Give us some notice and we'll lay on an avenue of GTRs for you both to walk through.

Why not try for another kid if you both feel that way?
If she can't for some reason, then I understand but so far as I understand it she just aborted.
Is there any damage there to prevent her getting pregnant again?
Do you both want a kid?

As for the lack of interest in riding, that will also pass.
If you don't feel like riding, don't ride.
I sometimes go for weeks without getting on the bike but rarely for much longer than that.
Not much point in going out when yer not in the right head-space.

An if you need to blow off steam on here go for it.
It's far better than getting drunk and picking a fight somewhere.

I've been to some pretty dark places in life ....... and even when it doesn't seem much point getting up in the morning .... I always seem to manage, hang in there Dood... things happen for a reason, even if at the time it seems pretty fukked up.

As for not wanting a bike anymore, just get rid of it, it will hold too many bad thoughts and memories.... I had to do that with my old Gixxer, broke me heart to sell it... but it broke me heart every time i got on it.... as it was from a part of my life i'd tried to move on from.

I didn't have a bike fer 2 years and then one day i saw a Yam XJR1300, and just walked in the dealership and brought it there and then, since then I've never been off of one.

You know you are always welcome to have a rant on here what ever the time of the day.... the forum is always open and will always listen, sometimes there may even be someone up at 3am staring at the posts as well... battling their own personal demons.

How you doing guys.......not too good here I am afraid still..Give up the bikes Al or we are over..that's some ultimatum..She fears they may kill me..life is gona kill me...So many good times on Bikes..if one kills me tomorrow..Like Neil Young says...It's better to burn out than rust..Cant make mind up...keep bikes ditch woman......If I stay give up Bikes , then sit there on Sundays thinking.......torn...for sure. Got feeling bikes gona win..

The trouble with bikes is that, if you are a true 100% Biker it sits deep in your soul......

you've sold stuff, stole stuff, gone without stuff, broken promises, missed important dates, lied to people ect, just so you can go and get that fix, you're an addict.... you sit and think about all the places you are gonna go on the damn thing, imagining far away perfect roads.... wet or dry you don't care, as long as you're on ya Bike....

I can't tell you what you should or shouldn't do but that 2 wheel pal of mine has cost me soooo much over the years, but without it I know i would be utterly miserable... I'm one of those daft buggers that'll go down the shed in the winter when the snow's thick on the ground, with a cuppa.... and sit on my Tuono and remember the great rides of the summer and think about the new ones to come....

From the moment I first slung my leg over a Honda PC 50 moped... I knew..

Life is all about Bikes... it always has been and always will.... because when I'm riding my Bike everything is right with my life.  :gunsmilie:

But Al, you seem between a rock and a hard place.

Tough decision and one which I don't envy.

Must say  :biker3: would win with me, but never been faced with such a situation.

Clearly her ultimatum is borne out of love for, and desire to be with, you.

Whatever decision you make - don't regret it.  There are always different chapters in life, no failures, and stuff happens for a reason.

Wow... Just read this thread... I'm so sorry to hear about all this.

The reason for my post is that I was back near Grenoble last weekend for a wedding and I came across a section of road that I know quite well and often has deer and boar running across it. They have now put up a deer detection system ! Incredible!

Then I found this about it after a spot of googling:
http://www.guide2rhonealpes.com/news/353/Rhone-Alpes-news---Animal-Detector-on-the-roads

I really hope it works.... There have been many accidents on that stretch...
