Well there you go .. 48 yrs old non smoker and triathlete .... no operations, still have my appendix, tonsils, molars and havn't broken anything... then a few weeks ago whilst running a bit of pain in me nether regions which goes on for a while then over the next few weeks I get a classic bulge right down in my groin ... being a sensible chap I can self diagnose but had to go and see the Dr 2 weeks ago ... referred to the Consultant who after a thorough examination was delighted to tell me that I have a much smaller one on the other side as well ... hernia that is !
Thank goodness for Bupa is all I can say ... bloods and swabs tomorrow for a bit of knife work that was going to be Monday but has now been brought forward to Friday afternoon ... YIKES ! that's only 2 days away !
Hope that he can do it "keyhole" and go in under my belly button but if that's no good its a slice each side and a few stitches ... no training driving or riding the Gtr for 3 weeks or so ... I won't be tempted to go back early, either to work or training as if it goes again then I would only have myself to blame ! Should be out within 24 hrs and then plenty of walking .... Molly will be well pleased !
I have no worries at all as I know it's all too common ... the only thing that bothers me is this " no eating for 12 hrs before " !!!!! I shall fade away !!
Anyone else been down this hernia route ?
I assume that being a Triathlete Rusty you are fond of ya ab workouts, usually in fit people this type of thing occurs due to injury. So it might be wise, once back to fitness to have a look at ya training routine and see if you can identify where you may be 'pinging' ya abs.
course it could just be old age :mfr_lol:
:mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: It's me old age mate !!
Yes I had a double hernia opp about 8 years ago and it was not key hole. I was back on my bike a Yammie R6 at the time and did south of France and back in 4 days and this was only 8 weeks after opp......good luck
A marathon runner, footballer and Olympic swimmer - heart attacks, Rusty, tri-athlete - hernia.
Suddenly being a fat bastard seems like the healthy option.............
..... and I thought that this was a bike forum!
I had a small umbilical hernia in 2008. BUPA cover is a great asset to have access to. I was able to choose my surgery day to let me have my 10 day Alps bike holiday, go back to over see the introduction of a major re-organisation, have a day off to take my 1st rospa test and then have my day in hospital.
Op was on Tuesday and by Friday the next week slung my leg over the cbf1000, but felt it was bit too heave to risk riding. I tried again on Saturday and felt more comfortable and on Sunday went out and did 180 miles!
What I find the most surprising is that Rusty is a tri-athlete?! Surely he means try-to-be-an-athlete?

My runnning days are well and truely over as our my knees apparantly. Hope it all goes well for you Rusty.
All the best Rusty.
I had them threatening on both sides for years now. Rear up now & again...guess one day will have to be done...
A mate just had this done.
Bloody NHS made him lose loads of weight (he weighed 33+ stone) which was a good thing, but even after he'd lost 13 stone they ****ed him around for several months. Finally got done a couple of months ago.
He had a kevlar mesh inserted to prevent it happening again and is pretty much fully back to normal.
Good luck Rusty, and it doesn't matter if yer fat or fit, a hernia is natures way of saying "whoah there".
Time to slow down and start planning *how* yer gonna lift/move things.
He's a big unit is Rusty and he's knocking on a bit so yeah, Boomer I have to agree with you, he needs to slow down and start looking at his lifestyle.
:whistling:
Wait for the abuse to start flying now!! :mfr_lol:
How could I possibly think of abusing you lot ?? :001_icon16: :001_icon16:
I'm going for a bit of mesh too .... slow down ??? .. just consider this a bit of "time off".
Thanks chaps ... be back soon. :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Good luck Rusty...I had amesh thingy applied over an umbilical hernia about five or so years ago, and apart from some mild discomfort its been fine ever since
BTW I'm not an athlete ...in fact I'm more like W.S ... a fat bastard :mfr_lol:

Lonewolf came out of the closet and has admitted that he has a thing about Coney.
Ziderman admitted that he occasionally sneaks a pint of lager when nobody is looking.
Kwikas won the latest RedBull X-Fighters doing a triple flip with pike on his 1400.
Winston admitted that he is actually a negro and only whites up for the forum.
I lost 12 stone and am now slim, athletic and desirable.
Other than that, not much.

Having ridden the bike home about a week before going sick it has only sat there in the garage being cleaned and walked by most days ... Oh how I have missed it.... but tomorrow ?.... Well that's 20 days post op and I am booked back into work next week so I shall be getting my leg over about lunchtime and having a bit of a ride ( I know what you are thinking you naughty boys :nono: :nono: ) ... so shall up date you with a big smiley face ......... :mfr_lol:
Got out just before lunchtime .. dry and warm but not hot hot like it has been ... only out for an hour but stopped off near Arundel at Whiteways Lodge ... which in the holidays and weekends is simply stacked with bikes .. but not today, which was nice. A hot cup of tea and a sausage roll went down well ............

This place has come on leaps and bounds over the years ... I suppose like anywhere that makes the effort. The staff are friendly and there are always enough of them when it is busy and they are open in the winter too .. for those cold wet dog walks ! But as you can see .. very quiet today ........
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n531/NigelCooper/IMG_3392.jpg) ......
Nice to see youre out and about Rusty
BTW one of those bloody parking wardens has put a ticket inside your helmet :mfr_lol:
