I did the P90x last year. Got very fit and then let it go.

About four years ago when I was working in Scotland, I would get bored in the evenings so joined the local council fitness clubs. Went from 13st to 11st 5lbs. It was hard work though. Didn't realise it at the time, but my thyroid was on its way out.

From next week starts my new training regime which is sports I enjoy: boxing, badminton, and spinning (was going to become an instructor at one point).

The only real bitch of a problem I have is my lower back (probably due to the bad form I had doing sumo deadlifts). Yoga help immensely but it is the limiting factor in how much exercise I can do.

As for diet, I've started the lean gains approach (http://www.leangains.com/ (http://www.leangains.com/)), which means I fast for 16 hours and eat healthy in the remaining 8 hours. Early days yet, but I do feel a lot more healthier following this approach, which incidently, is more or less how my diet used to be when I was younger.

Edit: just seen the livestrong site. Very useful

yeah P90x (BRING IT!!  :mfr_lol:) is great... i did a course on it a couple of years ago... tis nice and simple but very effective, only probs is that it is hard, which is why most people give up...... the diets a bit 'funky' too  :mfr_lol:

Only part of P90x I do now is the Yoga.

I didn't think the programme was that wow TBH. More down to diet.

The main problem I have is getting off my lazy ass and doing some exercise.

Thanks Mog.
I'm at the start of an extended diet.
I started off at 26st 9lbs at the end of Jan.
Am down to 25st 7lbs as of Monday morning.

Am losing between 1 & 2lbs per week with occasional weeks of no loss.
Target weight is below 20st but I don't expect to get there until end of 2013 at the earliest.
Will be joining a gym soon to try to raise that loss to 2-3lbs per week but don't want to go any higher than that.

I am also not being anal about it, just methodical.
On a recent weekend in Belgium I was eating Frites with Andalouse sauce, Pate de Foie Gras, and muchos yummy Belgian beer.

I am a big feller so I doubt if I'll ever hit what the Doctors reckon I should be (14st  :ohplease:) but if I slide at some point I may well ask for advice.

I know where you're coming from, doctors tell me I should be 13'6lbs. Even after diet and excercise for a year, going from 20st to 14st 8lbs, that wasn't deemed enough even though I started to look ill. Then I saw the physio and club doctor at the rugby club, they both said aim to keep healthy at 15st and keep waist at 36", struggled a bit this winter but it's much easier to get back to target when you have attainable goals.

When I lost lots of weight cut out bread, alcohol, cakes and upped the veg/fruit intake, never felt like a diet really. Do a reasonable amount of exercise walking, refereeing etc so just increased the time.

Good luck :punk:

My mate is around 25st. Big fella, always been big. He once went on a diet that saw him drop down to about 12st. He looked ill.

His size is deceptive. For a big guy he can move fast on a badminton court :(

I've always been a 'big lad' as a result of which I was selected to play rugby for the school under 13s, when I was eleven, My Doc once said that my target weight should be 13-14 stones I told him that I weighed almost that when I was 13 years old.

I suffered Prolapsed discs in 1979 resulting in 5 weeks traction, which was fun (NOT) followed by having to wear a corset for two months afterwards, but continued playing Rugby for a number of years afterwards.

I managed to get my weight down to 15 stone and became very fit after extensive 'Power Hour Training' with Sam wakefield, but that was in 1992, since which time I've become a blob and also  the proud owner of a back condition called Spinal Stenosis, which is VERY problematical.

BUT since restarting work again in Mid February this year I've lost about a stone and now weigh in at 17stone, and I feel a lot better.

You are right Mogs ...a healthy body is a better body... now, where's that packet of Chocolate digestives gone   :mfr_lol:

Seriously , I got close to 13half & a bit...Could not work it out , Kite surfing bit of squash , walk a lot at work & cycle a bit.
Well when met latest Woman , she always insists we eat at 6 on the dot...& I mean on the Dot . Learnt that one some time ago. Suddenly I am down to 12S 8lb....
Reasons it seems , eating at proper time. Right is an all, cause I used to come in half 5 ish , bottle Beer , sit on Sofa crash for an hour then decide I needed to cook dinner...was always about 8.30 when sat down to eat. Not good , she tells me & she is right.  So never even pick at the Biscuits now & other crap during evening.

funny as F**k some comments above....love it....

Mostley people dont really understand what they put in their pie holes....... the problem is that good nutritious food is low in calories, so you actually have to eat a lot of it  and poor quality yet yummy food is loaded with all the bad stuff.

fer example friday night for us is treat night.. which means i usually wreck my days food intake in the space of 4 hours.

Breaky.. Porridge with egg whites, Whey protien drink, banana, tea.... ........................536 calories
Post gym. Protien drink, egg whites, cashew nuts and banana .................................... 605 calories
Lunch. Chicken and mixed grains, fresh orange juice......................................................468 calories
morning and afternoon snacks.... Cashew nuts, 3 bananas, small bowl of bran flakes.. 432 calories

now here is where it all goes horribly wrong, usually i have a 600 calorie healthy meal, but seeing as friday is pig out night it looked sumit like this...

Quarter pounder and fries from the take away, packet of Minstrals chocky and a bottle of wine.... 1750 calories
now if you think that a lot of people hit that sort of calorific figure every night, then its no wonder we have a weight problem in this country..

When I was in my 20s I weighed 8st soaking wet. I remember my mates girlfriend asking me what the secret was to keeping slim

Now that I'm 40 I can't seem to shift the damn weight.

So my new training regime starts tonight. A couple of weeks of Yoga and swimming to get back into exercise before I turn it up.

I'm not bothered about losing weight. I like being around 13st. What I don't like is the 29% body fat.

I used to do a lot of running and I mean a LOT of running. I was addicted to it. I would religiously run three times a day, all year round, whatever the weather. Running in snow looks daft but it's actually good fun as is running in the rain.
I've done marathons but my speciality was half marathons & 10k road races, I could just run consistently at sub 5 minute miles and I remember I once joined a running club and nobody there could keep up with me.
But all that pounding, running hard, fast, intensive training has caused long term damage to my knees. I was told about two years ago I needed surgery on one of my knees and this was going to take place but then
a second consultant reckoned it would be too risky so it never got done.
Now I can't run for shit these days.

Running three times a day?  :help:

I hate long distance running. I was always  :shit: at it. Was a decent sprinter (eventually) but long distance? Forget it.

Anyway, just finished the Yoga X. Didn't get all the way through. Forgot how hard is was. Body feels good though!

I lived in a field for almost two years of my life,  :mfr_lol: it's a long story. There was nothing to do but work and train, so that's exactly what I did. Running became just a way of life.

Mr Wolf .. I love my training and I do it for many reasons .. but sub 5  minute miles ???  ... that is fantastic stuff ...  excellent club level and beyond ... you are elevated to new heights of admiration !!

Even many years ago when I met Mrs Rusty, she would cycle around with me, I was running 10 miles in 69 minutes 2 or 3 times a week .. easy .. but was younger, lighter, and there was a lot less traffic about !!... but I reached a plateau, which don't get me wrong I was well pleased with , but just couldn't get any quicker. Well done you.

Run Forest, Run   :mfr_lol: All my initial training was done in Newquay and Mawgan Porth,  mostly around the country roads. Not much traffic and good scenery to inspire you on.

This morning I was 166.6 lbs. I can almost touch my next target of 161 lbs.

I have to say the desire for junk food last night was high. About 10pm my body was craving a donner kebab with hot chilli sauce. Surprised I manage to contain myself cause normally the donner kebab would be demolished in a few mins
