Bike needs gear change and n/s peg and lots of plastic inc near side pannier.
I had 3.5 hours in a&e ( some hours after my mishap) and a huge numbers of x-ray. I had to dig my heels in with the doc after before discussing my health told me that at my age I should stick to 4 wheels. Senior nurse overheard this and took doc away and brought me the consultant.
The 40 minute xray session on my left leg from hip to toe revelead no breaks so i was given pain killers and anti inflamatories and "disapam" to get me to sleep.
After a night's sleep I cna put weight through left leg and if work will hire me an automatic car I'll be back there tommorow.
What happened..... I was turning left into a side road and my eagle eye gravel radar let me down. 2nd gear and not going fast and the bike probably travelled no more than 15 metres from start of slide to final resting place. I dont know what happened to me as i ended up on the road in front of te the bike.
Main thing im ok and the bike will fix!

At the end of the day bike repairable you are not good to see you are ok,had the same myself last november so know the feeling of seeing bike like that.
Glad to hear you are OK Patrick.
I'm sure I've seen plenty of fairings on eBay.
Ick, glad you're OK. Hope you heal up swiftly and the pain goes away.
Patrick, thankfully nothing broken, the bruising will subside, the bike can be fixed. Glad you're relatively ok. So on the Doctors advice which car are you thinking of getting? :mfr_lol:
Get well Patrick.
As for the Doctors advice,... whenever I get that I say the following right to their face.
"I'll stop riding when they peel my cold dead fingers from the throttle grip"
One Doc had the balls to come back with
"Well the way you are going that will be sooner rather than later"
to which my answer was
"Well, I can't think of a better way to go"
I agree, after a fractured acatabulem with a month in hospital, three months no weight baring and another month to learn how to walk properly (never will) i was told to forget Bikes, this was in 1996, in 1998 i bought a Honda Vt1000, then a new Blade, then Honda SP1, then another blade, then VFT800, then a Sprint St, then another and now the GTR.
Two plates and ten screws in the hip.
I think i ignored him.

Patrick, I'm gald that you aren't too badly hurt...I hope that the discomfort goes away really soon
the bike will fix
I spoe the doctors remarks were based upon his/her experience with dealing with other less mature and more 'racey' patients.
Ouch ! You were right .... Patrick.... I always used to say to people, and still do so here we go " Don't worry Mr Bloggs that can be replaced but you can't ".... really sorry to hear and see the bad news but the main thing is that you will be ok and that's the way to look at it .. oh yes .. get some new batteries for your gravel radar
sorry to hear the bad news, but glad to hear your ok and will ride again  your not the first and you won't be the last. last november my mate took his hayabusa for it's m.o.t. the temp the night before had drop to freezing. his radar should I've kicked in, but never..! as he pulled out of the garage, he gave it a bit to much throttle and the bike flicked him off, and the bike landed on it's right side. it was only a 20 m.p.h max spill but managed to do £5,300 worth of damaged. my mate broke his collar bone and was black and blue and off work for 3 months. but he's as happy as a pig in :shit: now, his bike as been repaired and his as good as new
Shit happens...glad your ok M8......I got hit by a car pulling out car park space few weeks back . All minor damage & I was not hurt. Guess you were really shook up.
Bad luck, you will both mend and be on the road soon, i hope all goes well.

Guess you were really shook up.
At the time I was ok, but it afterwards that all the other thoughts, of how it could have been much worse, set in.
Thanks for all your replies. I think the important thing is that I know that i didnt see the gravel and should have and i recognising that I'll help my self to not do it again!!
Patrick
I know how you feel, me an misses came a cropper in Jan on bit of ice ( "bit of ice" termed loosley) and as everyone says look on bright side the bike will be repaired AND it will be clean when returned so theres a job saved as well  ............. oh and your ok lol
P.S
Heavy buggers aint they
Yes it's that time afterwards. The lad who pulled out in front me hit me side on. I went into violent swerve . Fortunately I just missed the Kerb which would have sent me over the Sea wall...nough said....I managed to stay upright..
That evening I was really pretty shook up about it. Think it's another age thing too. Life preservation.
You can fix a Bike & I was well past caring about the damage. No one hurt.
Aviva assessor coming to see the bike on Monday.
hi pat, sorry to hear about ya accident mate, hope your feeling much better?,as said earlier your bike will come back like new,so just be patient until it comes back ,,bloody know how you feel mate, had a spill on diesel back a while ago,,,,,,gutted is an understatement
good news,,,,,,,,spring is soon on its way,,,,following (i hope) a fab summer,,,,,, so youve got summat positive to keep ya mind in gear,,cuz believe me,the times i walked in n out of the garage ,i dont know how many times a day and seeing a empty space there, couldnt get it back quick enough for me!!! :mfr_lol:
all the very best mate,,,jenros.
Hi Patrick
It's never good to hear of a fellow rider going down but I'm glad you're relatively OK and the bike is fixable ( and insured!).
Regards
Max
Hi Patrick, late to this (and all other recent stuff), glad your okay ish and bikes repairable.
One question - do you know where the gravel came from?
Okay more than one.... if council / highways agency, arent they responsible??
Hard to say about the source of the gravel. probably just generla build up due to traffic turning into junction.
However, as thi incident happened when I was with the NEG at a cycle race the bike is covered by British Cycling's Comprehensive Fleet cover and they are arranging assessor and repairs.
I'll be sendng them pictures of the junction being swept (with a broom) after my spill by the race organiser, to keep the cylcists safe as they turned into the junction three more times.
BC have been very helpful so far I'm pleased to say.

Assesor came yesterday, bike being collected today by Chels of Staford (aviva's repairers) who used to service my cbf 1000.
Have you recovered ok Patrick?
Yes , I am on the mend thanks. Just got a slightly swollen foot and bit of pain in my ankle. I have an automatic car on hire from work so only had 2 days off. Probably start using my own car in a day or two. Pity, as the hire car 2.2 hyundai santa fe is much loads better than my 1.6 bluemotion passat. Mind you, I'd not want to be paying for the fuel in the 4x4.

Patrick Hi,
Very late to this (and breaking my last post resolve) but cannot resist. So sorry to hear of your spill but very happy that you and the bike are on the mend. I hope you are sleeping well.
Road maintenance in the south, including London, has been atrocious since the last couple of "heavy" winters and the recession induced cut backs.
All the best for continued recovery.
Why does damage to a bike look so much more sad that that to a car? (except of course really serious car wrecks)
Perhaps because it highlights the bike's vulnerability ?
Patrick
I hope you get fully fit and well soon. Thank goodness you are on the road to recovery.
I am also amazed such a heavy bike has not got worse damage, it seems you both are battered and bruised but will recover.
There but for the Grace etc etc. I would think most, if not all of us have had a spill at some point.
The main thing is to make a quick and swift recovery. Get wel soon. :biker3:

How's your recovery going?
A bike will always be more exposed than a car. I've had near drops when I've planted my foot down and found gravel.
I should really use the left foot and have the right covering the brake
