Title: Scala G4 Rider + Windows 7
Post by: routemaster on April 20, 2012, 08:29:12 PM
Hi

Is there anybody else here who has either a Scala G2 or G4 rider unit and runs a Windows 7 PC with bluetooth keyboard/mouse?

I recently bought the G4 unit and one of the reasons was the facility to plug the unit into the PC to upgrade software /change settings etc. However I have been having problems getting the Scala software to recognize the G4 unit - the two won't connect.

I ahve been in contact with Scala and they have been very helpful but it seems there is a bit of a fundimental problem or at least there appears to be with my setup. My PC, as is common with most PC's, has a bluetooth keyboard and mouse - yipee and great  and although you connect the G4 unit with a USB cable it appears the Windows 7 and the Scala bluetooth drivers conflict with each other which means the two won't talk to each other - even though you are not using bluetooth on the G4.

The solution appears with Windows 7 is to have a USB keyboard/mouse or run Windows XP - fortunately I do have an XP machine mothballed somewhere.

Anybody else had similar problems as I do find it a bit strange?

Kind regards

Steve

did you try running the software for the scala as administrator ,or another choice with win 7 is that you can run the software as backward compatable.

Hi
For those wtih a G4 desiring to upgrade to the 3.0 software to get "Click to Talk", etc. - I have this experience to share. I tried upgrading and followed the directions (at least I think I did!) only to get an error along the lines of "You must be an administrator to install this software". I tried three different Windows machines and verified that I WAS the administrator on all - same problem. I emailed Cardo support and got the following:

"...
Windows Vista and Windows 7 add an extra layer of security to the operating system to prevent bad programs from running on your PC. Part of this process means that on these versions of windows, instead of just clicking or double clicking on the Icon for the Cardo Upgrades.exe program, you must actually use the right mouse button to single click on the icon and a menu will pop up. From this menu you must then left mouse click on the item that says "Run As Administrator" and this will allow you to run the Cardo Upgrades.exe program with the permissions needed by the program and Windows to install the drivers for the G4 properly. You need to do this, even if you are the administrator for the machine in question.
Please feel free to contact us if we can assist with any other questions.

I did try running it as administrator but still no luck.

Apparently even if you have a USB mouse/keyboard establishing a connection between the unit and the software can sill be problematic under Windows 7 and it is the Bluetooth drivers that is the problem - you can't have two different bluettoth drivers running at the same time so backward compatibility mode may not help but I will give it go while a recommission the XP machine
