I have the Kawasaki genuine accessory Gel seat on my GTR, and its fine, if a little firm, for me.
But Gillian finds the pillion seat to be hard, and I was wondering if anyone has experience or advice about a gel seat cover that will improve the comfort of the pillion seat
I wouldn't say it's the cover. I'd go for replacing the gel with foam at the rear.
Can't be harder than the corbin
Thanks Asif, :smiley:I had considered that option, but didn't like the idea of partially dismantling the expensive seat, that's why I was wondering if a slip on gel cover might help
I have identified some options ont' tinterweb, but having no experience of them I'm bit undecided.
I've now found this which looks good but a bit pricey [/color]
No experience on my GTR as I use the original seat and find it comfortable, but had good experience with Custom Seats of Coventry on an earlier Triumph Trophy.

I had the basket weave style with gel pads front and back which was a big improvement on the original Triumph seat. They also give you the oportunity to either raise or lower the seat as is your preference.
Hi All
Airhawk seats are the ONLY way to go. They stop Blood "pooling" in you bum by moving air around in between small cells within the cushion. You can ride for hours on end without getting uncomfortable. http://www.airhawk.co.uk/ I even take mine on long plane trips!. There is a knack to setting them up though essentially as long as the air can move between the cells when sitting on it its fine so keep it as flat as poss otherwise its like riding an air bed!
+100 on the airhawk, rode for 16 hours straight on one of these ( Iron butt ss1000).
i had a gel seat and found it more uncomfortable than the stock. Ive heard countless bikers complain about gel seats.
I found the remedy was to get your upholster to put about 30 mm of chip foam under your stock foam pad when recovering your seat, this way you retain shape put have something a little bit thicker to sit on.
Have a look in your local mobility shop they have several different types, for wheelchairs, scooters etc, they even may let you try one out, i am sure they will advise one to suit you.

In the meantime I've found an Airhawk on fleabay and am bidding on it
Thanks for the advice  [/b]

no bike has a decent stock seat. although the gtr has the mosr tolerable stock seat ive ever experienced. I dont have any " problems " but I do find the stock seat is uncomfortable after 2 hours. I have recently been taking GTR seats apart and fitting heated pads and playing around with foam mods and noticed that the foam piece thats within the gtr seat is very thin at the exact point the riders arse is, there are two large ridges in the plastic seat pan that press up into the moulded foam piece, at this point the foam is only 20mm thick, this is probaly why the seat feels so uncomfortable, in other places the seat foam is 80mm thick.
just my 2cents worth
yeah, yeah, yeah Mogs, point taken, :mfr_lol: but the Kawa Gel seat is pretty hard on yer arse, and its my lovely Gillian I'm thinking about here, I have a gel seat cos its a tad narrower and lower which helps me to get my feet flat on the floor, I aint vertically challenged at 6' 2" but my back is knackered, so it helps me.
Maybe I could utilise one of these...wadda ya think

You lot don't know you're born (never understood that saying )
Italy and back, 2,700 miles, no fairing, no heated grips, and 22mm of seat padding.... touring Tuono style... :punk:
ooooh yeah... :asshole: :censored:
sounds like a serious case of Rhino
sore arse :mfr_lol:
No was not joking, my mum is wheelchair bound she suffers from arthritis and cant get about too much,so hence spends a lot of time in the chair, she was suffering numb bum pains etc, the hospital gave her some gel pads to loan and told her where some approved mobility shops where to get them from. She paid £25 for a pad and never looked back.
I thought it was just us who found the Kawasaki gel seat hard as I'd previously read nothing but good reports about them.
Lyn thought the original seat was the most comfortable she's ever sat on but it was a bit tall for me which was what prompted the purchase of the gel seat as they are lower. I had the original seat modified by Tony Archer and put that back on. I've just sold the gel seat on eBay, I hope the buyer isn't disappointed with it.

Thanks for that info which is very useful. I'll look into that

Add me to that list. I took a GTR for a test ride that was fitted with the gel seat. Did not find it at comfortable at all. Ditto with the Corbin which is just as hard.
My K gel seat feels OK
